An ultra-compact 0.36 mm/sup 2/ differential wideband amplifier fabricated using SiGe technology is presented. Measurements show an on-wafer gain of 20.8 dB and a 3 dB cutoff frequency of 32.0 GHz. The mounted amplifier's gain is 19.5 dB. The circuit is intended to operate as a predriver in a 40 Gbit/s fibre-optic communication system.  相似文献

Important inference problems in statistical physics, computer vision, error-correcting coding theory, and artificial intelligence can all be reformulated as the computation of marginal probabilities on factor graphs. The belief propagation (BP) algorithm is an efficient way to solve these problems that is exact when the factor graph is a tree, but only approximate when the factor graph has cycles. We show that BP fixed points correspond to the stationary points of the Bethe approximation of the free energy for a factor graph. We explain how to obtain region-based free energy approximations that improve the Bethe approximation, and corresponding generalized belief propagation (GBP) algorithms. We emphasize the conditions a free energy approximation must satisfy in order to be a "valid" or "maxent-normal" approximation. We describe the relationship between four different methods that can be used to generate valid approximations: the "Bethe method", the "junction graph method", the "cluster variation method", and the "region graph method". Finally, we explain how to tell whether a region-based approximation, and its corresponding GBP algorithm, is likely to be accurate, and describe empirical results showing that GBP can significantly outperform BP.  相似文献

The propagation loss of Si/sub 0.9/Ge/sub 0.1//Si planar optical waveguides has been measured at wavelengths of 1.15 and 1.523 mu m. The results show that these waveguides have a low propagation loss (<1 dB/cm) at a wavelength of 1.523 mu m, which is due to the intrinsic absorption of SiGe whereas at a wavelength of 1.15 mu m its loss is determined by both the SiGe absorption edge and defects at the SiGe/Si interface.<>  相似文献

A general class of transformation matrices for coherent signal-subspace processing is presented. These signal-subspace transformation (SST) matrices are shown to generate a sufficient statistic for maximum-likelihood bearing estimation. Two general forms for calculating SST matrices are presented, and the rotational signal-subspace (RSS) focusing matrices proposed by H. Hung and M. Kaveh (1988) are shown to be a special case of the SST matrices. An efficient procedure for computing a subset of the SST matrices, utilizing Householder transformations, is presented. The procedure reduces the computational load by a factor of 10, compared with that for the RSS matrices. The application of MUSIC to the coherently combined covariance matrix is also discussed, and Monte Carlo simulations comparing the performance of Householder SST matrices and RSS matrices are performed  相似文献

The four-dimensional (4-D) NURBS-based cardiac-torso (NCAT) phantom, which provides a realistic model of the normal human anatomy and cardiac and respiratory motions, is used in medical imaging research to evaluate and improve imaging devices and techniques, especially dynamic cardiac applications. One limitation of the phantom is that it lacks the ability to accurately simulate altered functions of the heart that result from cardiac pathologies such as coronary artery disease (CAD). The goal of this work was to enhance the 4-D NCAT phantom by incorporating a physiologically based, finite-element (FE) mechanical model of the left ventricle (LV) to simulate both normal and abnormal cardiac motions. The geometry of the FE mechanical model was based on gated high-resolution X-ray multislice computed tomography (MSCT) data of a healthy male subject. The myocardial wall was represented as a transversely isotropic hyperelastic material, with the fiber angle varying from -90 degrees at the epicardial surface, through 0 degrees at the midwall, to 90 degrees at the endocardial surface. A time-varying elastance model was used to simulate fiber contraction, and physiological intraventricular systolic pressure-time curves were applied to simulate the cardiac motion over the entire cardiac cycle. To demonstrate the ability of the FE mechanical model to accurately simulate the normal cardiac motion as well as the abnormal motions indicative of CAD, a normal case and two pathologic cases were simulated and analyzed. In the first pathologic model, a subendocardial anterior ischemic region was defined. A second model was created with a transmural ischemic region defined in the same location. The FE-based deformations were incorporated into the 4-D NCAT cardiac model through the control points that define the cardiac structures in the phantom which were set to move according to the predictions of the mechanical model. A simulation study was performed using the FE-NCAT combination to investigate how the differences in contractile function between the subendocardial and transmural infarcts manifest themselves in myocardial Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images. The normal FE model produced strain distributions that were consistent with those reported in the literature and a motion consistent with that defined in the normal 4-D NCAT beating heart model based on tagged magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. The addition of a subendocardial ischemic region changed the average transmural circumferential strain from a contractile value of -0.09 to a tensile value of 0.02. The addition of a transmural ischemic region changed average circumferential strain to a value of 0.13, which is consistent with data reported in the literature. Model results demonstrated differences in contractile function between subendocardial and transmural infarcts and how these differences in function are documented in simulated myocardial SPECT images produced using the 4-D NCAT phantom. Compared with the original NCAT beating heart model, the FE mechanical model produced a more accurate simulation for the cardiac motion abnormalities. Such a model, when incorporated into the 4-D NCAT phantom, has great potential for use in cardiac imaging research. With its enhanced physiologically based cardiac model, the 4-D NCAT phantom can be used to simulate realistic, predictive imaging data of a patient population with varying whole-body anatomy and with varying healthy and diseased states of the heart that will provide a known truth from which to evaluate and improve existing and emerging 4-D imaging techniques used in the diagnosis of cardiac disease.  相似文献

In the course of the research described in this paper a prototype assembly system for the automated fabrication of customized, biodegradable bone implants for tissue engineering applications has been developed. This work is part of a collaborative effort between the Handling Laboratory (hLab) of Fachhochschule Vorarlberg and the Bone Tissue Engineering Center (BETC) of Carnegie Mellon University. Bone implants are built up using thin layers of highly porous, biodegradable polymer scaffold materials. These layers can be seeded with cells prior to assembly. The main focus of this work is robotic handling of the prefabricated polymer layers. Additional components that are addressed include the cutting of contoured polymer layers from sheetstock and the assembly of the 21/2 dimensional layers to form 3D bone implants. Cutting tests have been performed to assess different cutting technologies. Assembly tests with mechanical connectors and fibrin adhesive have also been conducted. These components are integrated within a robot cell to demonstrate overall system feasibility.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been established as a reliable and safe imaging method for the human body. However, electric conductors, such as cables situated near or in the human body, should be avoided because induced currents in the cables can cause hazardous heating in the surrounding tissue. In this paper, a new principle for the design of a transmission line is introduced and demonstrated, which is capable of avoiding dangerous heating of cables. The principle is based on transformers placed along the line, splitting the long line into several short not resonant and thus safe sections. A transformer design is introduced along with the theoretical aspects for both the avoidance of the undesired induced currents and the reduction of signal attenuation. Furthermore, the design fulfills the geometrical requirements of the side lumen of a standard catheter. Matching networks, whose elements are determined by power matching, are used to reduce signal attenuation by the transformers. A prototype was built to validate both theory and the simulations. As demonstrated in this work, it is possible to build safe transmission lines for MRI, making applications such as active catheter tracking possible. We expect that even new applications, such as safe intravascular imaging will be possible in a safe manner in the future.  相似文献

A crossover design was implemented using four nonlactating dairy cows [mean body weight (BW) = 678 kg] and two rations to measure the true absorption of Ca and P from corn silage. True absorption was calculated after dosing cows intravenously with 45Ca and 32P to measure endogenous fecal losses. Rations consisted mainly of corn silage and were formulated to supply 32 g/d of Ca and 20 g/d of P or 16 g/d of Ca and 12 g/d of P. The percentages of total Ca and P that came from corn silage were 95 and 77%, respectively, for ration 1, and 98 and 79%, respectively, for ration 2. Cows ate more dry matter (10.9 vs. 10.2 kg/d) when consuming the corn silage in ration 1 than when consuming the corn silage in ration 2. Calcium intake was greater for cows fed ration 1 than for cows fed ration 2 (32.6 vs. 16.1 g/d), and P intake was greater for cows fed ration 1 than for cows fed ration 2 (20.1 vs. 11.7 g/d). True absorption of Ca was 34.4 and 43.7% for rations 1 and 2, respectively, and true absorption of P was 84.5 and 93.9% for rations 1 and 2, respectively. True absorption of Ca was about equal to values currently used in the National Research Council (NRC) feeding standards, but true absorption of P was higher than values currently used by the NRC. Fecal endogenous excretion of Ca (mean = 8.23 mg/kg of BW per d) was one-half of the value currently used by the NRC, and fecal endogenous excretion of P (mean = 7.23 mg/kg of BW per d) was only slightly less than NRC values.  相似文献
