The geometry and operating conditions in the real converter were simulated using a water model. The mixing in this semi-continuous gas-liquid reactor equipped with top and bottom pneumatic agitation was studied. The relationship between mixing time and agitation power was studied, and a new expression for the agitation power due to top blowing is proposed. The effect of different parameters was also studied: the relative effect of top and bottom agitation, streamlines; as well as the effect of the variation of different variables: liquid volume, surface tension, addition of a second liquid phase, variation of the relative position of the lance with respect to the quiescent bath level and the change in the top and bottom gas flow rate.  相似文献

Transparent conductive oxide (SnO2)/organic layers/aluminum thin film sandwich structures were obtained by vacuum evaporation. The organic component was either a thin carbazole film or a bilayer. In that case, the carbazole film was deposited onto a thin insulating polymer film. The polymer used was the poly(tetrabromo‐p‐phenyleneselenide) (PBrPDSe). Photoluminescence measurements have shown that the carbazole thin films emit blue light. (I‐V) measurements have shown that the structures exhibit diode characteristics. The forward direction is obtained when the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) is positively biased. However, the reproducibility of the results obtained with a single carbazole layer is poor. It appears that the stability of the sample is improved when a thin PBrPDSe film (40 nm) is introduced between the carbazole and the SnO2. The polymer film avoids the short circuit effect. In that case, the turn‐on voltage of the diode is about 3 V, when the thickness of the carbazole film is around 250 nm and the electroluminescence appears at a voltage of about 5 V. It is shown that the thermionic effect cannot be used to explain the I‐V characteristics, which are interpreted with the help of the Fowler–Nordheim tunnel effect. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A complete, systematic approach is presented for the analysis and characterization of fouling and cleaning in refinery heat exchangers. Bringing together advanced thermo‐hydraulic dynamic models, some new formulations, and a method for dynamic analysis of plant data, it allows: extracting significant information from the data; evaluating the fouling state of the units based on thermal measurements and pressure drops, if available; identifying the range of deposit conductivity leading to realistic pressure drops, if pressure measurements are unavailable; estimating key fouling and ageing parameters; estimating the effectiveness of cleaning and surface conditions after a clean; and predicting thermal and hydraulic performance with good accuracy for other periods/exchangers operating in similar conditions. An industrial case study demonstrates the performance prediction in seamless simulations that include partial and total cleanings for over 1000 days operation. Mexico City Metropolitan Area children and young adults exposed to high concentrations of air pollutants including fine and ultrafine particulate matter (PM) vs. clean air controls, exhibit myocardial inflammation and inflammasome activation with a differential right and left ventricular expression of key inflammatory genes and inflammasomes. We investigated the mRNA expression levels of the prion protein gene PRNP, which plays an important role in the protection against oxidative stress and metal toxicity, and the glucose regulated protein 78, a key protein in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress signaling, in ventricular autopsy samples from 30 children and young adults age 19.97 ± 6.8 years with a lifetime of low (n:4) vs. high (n:26) air pollution exposures. Light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy studies were carried out in human ventricles, and electron microscopy studies were also done in 5 young, highly exposed Mexico City dogs. There was significant left ventricular PRNP and bi-ventricular GRP78 mRNA up-regulation in Mexico City young urbanites vs. controls. PRNP up-regulation in the left ventricle was significantly different from the right, p < 0.0001, and there was a strong left ventricular PRNP and GRP78 correlation (p = 0.0005). Marked abnormalities in capillary endothelial cells, numerous nanosized particles in myocardial ER and in abnormal mitochondria characterized the highly exposed ventricles. Early and sustained cardiac ER stress could result in detrimental irreversible consequences in urban children, and while highly complex systems maintain myocardial homeostasis, failure to compensate for chronic myocardial inflammation, oxidative and ER stress, and particles damaging myocardial organelles may prime the development of pathophysiological cardiovascular states in young urbanites. Nanosized PM could play a key cardiac myocyte toxicity role.  相似文献

A self-healing polymer network for potential coating applications was designed based on the concept of the reversible Diels–Alder (DA) reaction between a furan functionalized compound and a bismaleimide. The network allows local mobility in a temperature window from ca. 80 °C to 120 °C by shifting the DA equilibrium towards the initial building blocks. Changing the spacer length in the furan functionalized compound leads to tailor-made properties. Elastomeric model systems were chosen to evaluate the kinetic parameters by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. For the DA reaction a pre-exponential factor ln(ADA in kg mol?1 s?1) equal to 13.1 ± 0.8 and an activation energy (EDA) of 55.7 ± 2.3 kJ mol?1 are found. For the retro-DA reaction, ln(ArDA) and ErDA are 25.8 ± 1.8 s?1 and 94.2 ± 4.8 kJ mol?1, respectively. The enthalpy and entropy of reaction are calculated as ?38.6 kJ mol?1 and ?105.3 J mol?1 K?1. The kinetic results are validated by micro-calorimetry. Non-isothermal dynamic rheometry provides the gel-point temperature of the reversible network. The sealing capacity is evaluated by atomic force microscopy for micro-meter sized defects. Repeatability of the non-autonomous healing is checked by micro-calorimetry, ruling out side-reactions below 120 °C.  相似文献

Primary copper(I)-dioxygen (O2) adducts, cupric-superoxide complexes, have been proposed intermediates in copper-containing dioxygen-activating monooxygenase and oxidase enzymes. Here, mechanisms of C−H activation by reactive copper-(di)oxygen intermediates are discussed, with an emphasis on cupric-superoxide species. Over the past 25 years, many synthetically derived cupric-superoxide model complexes have been reported. Due to the thermal instability of these intermediates, early studies focused on increasing their stability and obtaining physical characterization. More recently, in an effort to gain insight into the possible substrate oxidation step in some copper monooxygenases, several cupric-superoxide complexes have been used as surrogates to probe substrate scope and reaction mechanisms. These cupric superoxides are capable of oxidizing substrates containing weak O−H and C−H bonds. Mechanistic studies for some enzymes and model systems have supported an initial hydrogen-atom abstraction via the cupric-superoxide complex as the first step of substrate oxidation.  相似文献

Our aim was to investigate the subset distribution and function of circulating monocytes, proinflammatory cytokine levels, gut barrier damage, and bacterial translocation in chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. Thus, 56 SCI patients and 28 healthy donors were studied. The levels of circulating CD14+highCD16, CD14+highCD16+, and CD14+lowCD16+ monocytes, membrane TLR2, TLR4, and TLR9, phagocytic activity, ROS generation, and intracytoplasmic TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, and IL-10 after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation were analyzed by polychromatic flow cytometry. Serum TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6 and IL-10 levels were measured by Luminex and LPS-binding protein (LBP), intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP) and zonulin by ELISA. SCI patients had normal monocyte counts and subset distribution. CD14+highCD16 and CD14+highCD16+ monocytes exhibited decreased TLR4, normal TLR2 and increased TLR9 expression. CD14+highCD16 monocytes had increased LPS-induced TNF-α but normal IL-1, IL-6, and IL-10 production. Monocytes exhibited defective phagocytosis but normal ROS production. Patients had enhanced serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels, normal IL-1 and IL-10 levels, and increased circulating LBP, I-FABP, and zonulin levels. Chronic SCI patients displayed impaired circulating monocyte function. These patients exhibited a systemic proinflammatory state characterized by enhanced serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels. These patients also had increased bacterial translocation and gut barrier damage.  相似文献

Senescent cells accumulate in the adipose tissue (AT) of individuals with obesity and secrete multiple factors that constitute the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). This paper aimed at the identification of B cells with a SASP phenotype in the AT, as compared to the peripheral blood, of individuals with obesity. Our results show increased expression of SASP markers in AT versus blood B cells, a phenotype associated with a hyper-metabolic profile necessary to support the increased immune activation of AT-derived B cells as compared to blood-derived B cells. This hyper-metabolic profile is needed for the secretion of the pro-inflammatory mediators (cytokines, chemokines, micro-RNAs) that fuel local and systemic inflammation.  相似文献
