A novel UV-C irradiation device in laboratory scale was tested for its potential to inactivate bacteria in naturally cloudy apple juice. In this device, liquid flows through a helically wound tubing wrapped around a quartz glass tube containing a 9 W UV lamp with an irradiation intensity of 60 W/m2 at 254 nm. The equipment was capable of reducing numbers of inoculated Escherichia coli and Lactobacillus brevis from an initial concentration of approximately 106 CFU/ml or 104 CFU/ml to below detectable limits in commercial naturally cloudy apple juice at a flow rate of 2 l/h, and to well below 1 × 102 also at higher flow rates of 4 and 8 l/h. Numbers of Saccharomyces cerevisiae could be reduced from an initial level of ca. 1 × 104–1 × 102 CFU/ml or less at flow rates of 2 and 4 l/h. Although E. coli could be effectively inactivated also in self-extracted, as well as industrially processed apple juice, contaminating yeast and lactic acid bacteria were not completely eliminated.  相似文献

The paper presents a strategy for the market introduction of concentrating solar power (CSP) plants in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) that will not require considerable subsidization and will not constitute a significant burden for electricity consumers in the region. In the first section, the paper explains the need of MENA countries for sustainable supply of electricity and calculates the cost of electricity for a model case country. In the second part, the cost development of concentrating solar power plants is calculated on the basis of expectations for the expansion of CSP on a global level. After that, the challenges for the market introduction of CSP in MENA are explained. Finally, we present a strategy for the market introduction of CSP in MENA, removing the main barriers for financing and starting market introduction in the peak load and the medium load segment of power supply. The paper explains why long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) for CSP should be calculated on the basis of avoided costs, starting in the peak load segment. Such PPA are not yet available, the paper aims to convince policy makers to introduce them.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the effect of energy performance ratings on appraised capital values, rental values and equivalent yields of UK commercial property assets. The study is based on a cross-section of 708 commercial property assets. Incorporating a range of potential confounding factors such as unexpired lease term, vacancy rate and tenant credit risk, we use hedonic regression procedures to estimate the effect of EPC rating on rental and capital values. The study finds no evidence of a significant relationship between environmental and/or energy performance and rental and capital values. A small subset of 24 BREEAM-rated assets is also tested for significant price effects but a statistically significant effect is only confirmed for equivalent yields. Similarly, there was no evidence that the EPC rating had any effect on Market Rent or Market Value with only minor effects of EPC ratings on equivalent yields. The preliminary conclusion is that energy labelling is not yet having the effects on Market Values and Market Rents that would be expected if high EPC ratings were associated with substantial cost savings that are fully reflected in capital values and/or were readily available and taken into account by prospective tenants and buyers.  相似文献

 A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method has been developed to measure the stability of four Irganox-type polymer antioxidants (Irganox 245, Irganox 1035, Irganox 1098 and Irganox 3114) in an olive oil food simulant and isooctane, which has been proposed as an alternative fatty food simulant. The tests of stability in olive oil were carried out under three different conditions, i.e. 40°C for 10 days, 100°C for 1 h and 175°C for 1 h. The exposure conditions for isooctane were 60°C for 3 h. Results showed that for all additives tested no instability phenomena in olive oil or isooctane simulants were observed under the exposure conditions applied. The analytical methodology developed could eventually be used for stability testing and migration studies of other similarly structured antioxidants in fatty food simulants. Multinary Cu(In,Ga)(Se,S)2 absorbers (abrev. CIGSSe) are promising candidates for reducing the cost of photovoltaics well below the cost of crystalline silicon. Shell Solar has pioneered production of this new thin film technology and is now with the first generation at a volume of well over 1 MW/year. In a separate pilot line for second generation products we have further improved the performance of CIGSSE based solar modules. We developed a novel CIGSSE formation technique called stacked elemental layer rapid thermal processing (SEL-RTP). This process has recently been scaled up from initial laboratory sized mini-modules (10 × 10 cm2) to full sized power modules of 60 × 90 cm2. The present paper concentrates on in situ and ex situ characterization techniques that were developed to control and further improve large area CIGSSE processing. The crystalline thin film formation process has been analyzed with in situ thin film calorimetry and in situ X-ray diffraction (XRD). That work has added fundamental insights and accelerates the optimization process. The depth distribution of gallium and sulfur has been determined by secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) for different selenization and sulfurization processes. Appropriate profiles of these elements allow for a deliberate bandgap profiling within the Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 absorber. In addition further quality control tools like X-ray fluorescence analysis and Raman spectroscopy for stoichiometry monitoring, photoluminescence lifetime mapping and thermographic imaging have been developed in order to improve large area uniformity and reproducibility.

Some first full sized modules from the new pilot line look very promising: Aperture area efficiencies of up to 13.1% for monolithic thin film circuits on 0.54 m2 and a module power of 65 W represent an international champion value for large are thin film solar modules.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of roscovitine on suppression of meiosis, subsequent meiotic maturation, and cleavage rates after intracytoplasmic sperm injection of horse oocytes. Oocytes were classified as having compact or expanded cumuli (Com or Exp oocytes) and were divided into three culture groups: 30 h culture in maturation medium (30 h Mat); 54 h culture in maturation medium (54 h Mat), or 24 h culture in medium containing 66 micro mol roscovitine l(-1) and then 30 h culture in maturation medium (Ros+M). After maturation, oocytes were subjected to intracytoplasmic sperm injection and cultured in G1.2 medium for 96 h. Among oocytes fixed immediately after roscovitine culture, 26 of 31 (84%) Com oocytes and 16 of 28 (57%) Exp oocytes were at the germinal vesicle stage (P<0.05). After maturation culture, there were no differences in maturation rates or morphological cleavage rates among treatments. Among Com oocytes, significantly more embryos in the Ros+M treatment than in the 54 h Mat treatment had cleaved with > or = two normal nuclei (63 versus 36%; P<0.05); whereas among Exp oocytes, significantly more embryos in the 30 h Mat treatment than in the Ros+M treatment (63 versus 42%; P<0.05) had cleaved with > or = two normal nuclei. The average number of nuclei in embryos at 96 h was significantly higher (P<0.05) in Ros+M Com oocytes (13.5) than in any other Com or Exp group. These results demonstrate that roscovitine can reversibly maintain equine oocytes in the germinal vesicle stage for up to 24 h, and that such suppression may increase the developmental potential of Com, but not Exp, oocytes.  相似文献

Based on their predominance in Gari fermentations, as well as suitable technological properties, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus fermentum, Weissella paramesenteroides and Leuconostoc mesenteroides strains were investigated for their suitability for development as starter strains for this African traditional fermented cassava product. The strains were grown in optimized growth media in 2 L fermenters, harvested and freeze dried, and then tested in lab-scale cassava mash fermentation trials for their ability to ferment the cassava. The strains performed well and rapidly increased the titratable acidity from 1.1 to 1.3% at 24 h to 1.3–1.6% at 48 h. The benefit of including starter cultures was that it lowered the pH of the product much faster and to lower levels than in the uninoculated control fermentation. The results furthermore indicated that especially the L. plantarum-group strains could be produced as starter strains at low cost. Overall, the results of this study showed that starter strains could be easily and economically produced, and thus represent a feasible possibility for further development for application in the field.  相似文献

We compare the performance of two back reflector designs on the optoelectrical properties of microcrystalline silicon solar cells. The first one consists of a 5‐µm‐thick low‐pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD)‐ZnO electrode combined with a white sheet; the second one incorporates an Ag reflector deposited on a thin LPCVD‐ZnO layer (with thickness below 200 nm). For this latter design, the optical loss in the nano‐rough Ag reflector can be strongly reduced by smoothing the surface of the thin underlying ZnO layer, by means of an Ar‐plasma treatment. Because of its superior lateral conductivity, the thin‐ZnO/Ag back reflector design provides a higher fill factor than the dielectric back reflector design. When decreasing the roughness of the front electrode with respect to our standard front LPCVD‐ZnO layer, the electrical cell performance is improved; in addition, the implementation of the thin‐ZnO/Ag back reflector leads to a significant relative gain in light trapping. Applying this newly optimized combination of front and back electrodes, the conversion efficiency is improved from 8.9% up to 9.4%, for cells with an active‐layer thickness of only 1.1 µm. Digital implementation of ultra-wideband receivers requires analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) at an extremely high speed, thereby limiting the available bit resolution. Herein, the effect of low bit resolution quantization on the performance of UWB transmitted reference receivers is investigated. It is verified that the gain of the automatic-gain-control (AGC) has a significant effect on the achievable performance. Because of the considerable performance loss of conventional transmitted reference receivers in the presence of a low resolution ADC a new family of receiver structures optimized and tailored to quantized observations is presented. In particular, the generalized- likelihood ratio test (GLRT) based on the quantized samples is derived and shown to provide modest performance gains relative to the infinite resolution GLRT rule employed on the quantized received signal suggesting that conventional receiver structures can also be employed in the presence of a low resolution ADC. Results reveal that four bits of resolution in combination with an optimal choice for the AGC gain are sufficient to closely approach the performance of an infinite resolution receiver.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Beim Erhitzen von Glucose mit primären Aminen oder Aminosäuren in wäßriger Lösung werden u.a. Pyrrolinonreduktone der Struktur(10) gebildet. Das Reaktionsverhalten dieser bisher nicht bekannten Aminoreduktone wird untersucht und der Nachweis in Glucose-Glycin-Umsetzungsgemischen and in Malz durchgeführt. Die beim Erhitzen von Hexosen mit sekunddren Aminen beobachtete Bildung der sog. Aminohexosereduktone(5a) wird in Gegenwart von primären Aminen fast völlig zugunsten der Pyrrolinone unterdrückt.
Formation of pyrrolinone reductones by heating hexoses with amino acids
Summary When an aqueous solution of glucose and primary amines or amino acids is heated pyrrolinone reductones of structure(10) are formed. Reactions of these till now unknown amino reductones are studied. Detection in heated glucose glycine mixtures and in malt is performed. Formation of the so-called amino hexose reductones (5a), observed when secondary amines are heated with hexoses, is almost completely suppressed in the presence of primary amines in favour of pyrrolinones.
