This paper describes the design, analysis and characterization of a linear permanent magnet generator and capacitive energy storage system for generating electrical power from a single stroke of a salient-pole armature. It is suitable for applications that require relatively low levels of electrical power, such as remote electronic locks. An electromagnetic analysis of the generator is described, and a design optimization methodology for the system is presented. Accurate assessment and replacement of blood loss and fluid-electrolyte deficit during craniosynostosis repair is difficult owing to patient size and the diversity of surgical technique. Forty-three patients undergoing primary craniosynostosis repair over a 10-year period were studied retrospectively to determine blood loss and fluid deficit and to assess blood transfusion practices during both intraoperative and postoperative periods. Blood loss was calculated on the basis of estimated red cell mass (ERCM) and fluid-electrolyte imbalance was investigated with blood samplings. Blood transfusion was considered appropriate if the postoperative or posttransfusion ERCM was within 12% of the preoperative value. Estimated fluid requirement (EFR) was used in 4 ml kg(-1) h(-1) except for neonates. Intraoperatively, 80% of all patients were appropriately managed with respect to blood transfusion and EFR. Postoperatively only 20% of the patients receiving transfusions were transfused appropriately. In 23.3% of these patients (10/43) unexpected respiratory distress developed immediately after their recovery from the anesthesia. With the measurement of estimated blood volume and allowable blood loss, appropriate transfusion could be achieved for the successful treatment of the primary craniosynostosis.  相似文献

This article summarizes the results of a combined analysis from two identical multicenter clinical trials that investigated the efficacy and safety of sertraline versus placebo for treating panic disorder. Patients with panic disorder who were treated with sertraline had a statistically significant reduction in the mean number of panic attacks per week (the primary efficacy measure) as compared with placebo (4.8 vs. 2.5, p < .001). Sertraline-treated patients also showed greater improvement that was statistically significant on several ratings of panic disorder symptomatology and functioning. The design characteristics, clinical rating measures, and outcome measures in these trials included most of the features deemed essential by Shear and Maser (1994) in their summary of the NIMH Consensus Conference for the development of standardized assessments for panic disorder. This suggests that the NIMH Consensus Conference played a key role in developing successful multicenter pharmacological treatment studies, such as this one that ultimately demonstrated that sertraline was an effective treatment for panic disorder.  相似文献

The thermal degradation of several polyimidazopyrrolone (pyrrone) films was studied in air and in vacuum over the range of 100–1000°C. by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), with the use of both isothermal heating and programmed heating rates of 2, 3, 5, and 7.5°C./min. At pressures of 10?6 torr or less, maximum weight losses average 30% at 800°C. Rates of volatilization and activation energies were derived to provide comparison between these ladder-type polymers. Mass spectrometric analysis of the pyrolysis gases evolved under vacuum conditions showed that CO, CO2, and H2O were the primary volatile products and that they were formed throughout the period of weight loss. Approximate correlation between changes in weight and changes in the total pressure for the vacuum tests indicates that mass spectrometric results could provide quantitative as well as qualitative data. The importance of sample history prior to heating and of sample geometry in developing meaningful and reproducible TGA results is aptly demonstrated. The ability of these materials to absorb readily 5–7 wt.-% of water under ambient conditions and the effect of this property upon weight loss measurements are shown.  相似文献
