The roots of the vegetal Curcuma due to its high content of polyphenols, has been used successfully in several clinical situations. This review assessed the effect of curcumin/Curcuma longa on symptoms and metabolic changes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A systematic review of animal models and randomized clinical trials (RCTs) was conducted by searching the following electronic databases: PubMed, CENTRAL, LILACS, Science Direct, and ClinicalTrials.gov. From 997 found records, 62 were included. More than 90% of the animal studies reported an improvement in macroscopic, histologic and/or functional activity; 80% identified decreased oxidative and/or inflammatory biomarkers in animals treated with curcumin. Among the RCTs, intention-to-treat analysis showed that oral curcumin was effective in inducing clinical remission (n = 281, RR: 3.15 CI 95% [1.22–8.10] p = 0.0017; i² = 72.2%, p = 0.006) and clinical response (n = 259, RR: 1.60 CI 95% [1.09–2.35] p = 0.0017; i² = 59.7%, p = 0.042) but not endoscopic remission (n = 161, RR: 2.91 CI 95% [0.58–14.58] p = 0.195; i² = 72.7%, p = 0.026). These results confirm that oral supplementation with curcumin/Curcuma longa has beneficial actions in animal colitis and, when associated with drug therapy, is effective in the treatment of patients with IBD.
Scallops (Pecten alba) were packaged aerobically, vacuum packaged, treated with 0.1% K-sorbate then packaged, or vacuum packaged and frozen. The initial flora was predominantly Vibrio which grew well in the aerobic packs (? 108 c.f.u./g after 6 days at 4°C) and in the vacuum packs (? 107 c.f.u./g after 6 days 4°C). The microbial counts in the sorbate-treated scallops were low (? 103 c.f.u./g) after 6 days at 4°C and rose to 105 c.f.u./g by 22 days, remaining at this level until the experiment ended after 48 days. Extensive use of taste panels as an evaluative tool enabled construction of odor and flavor profiles which showed clearly the nature of the changes that occurred during storage. The sorbate-treated scallops stored for up to 28 days at 4°C remained as acceptable as the frozen controls. 相似文献
The near-zone radial and principal spherical components of the electric field for a linear phased array antenna that is focused at one to two aperture diameters in the near zone are investigated. The phased array antenna consists of thin monopole elements, which are analyzed by using the method of moments. A theoretical formulation is described and computer simulation results are presented. The results show that the radial component is negligible in the focused near-field region, which allows the principal component to be accurately computed from knowledge of only the tangential electric field on the focal plane 相似文献
Measured center element gain patterns, voltage standing-wave ratio (VSWR), and mutual coupling for passively terminated arrays of horizontally polarized loop-fed slotted cylinder antennas over a ground plane are given. A seven-element hexagonal array is investigated in detail. The element gain pattern is shown to have a null at broadside with omnidirectional coverage along a constant cone angle from broadside. Maximum gain occurs close to50degfrom broadside which provides for wide-angle phased array scanning capability. The antennas are also configured in a linear array geometry, to investigate mutual coupling effects on the element gain pattern as the number of elements is varied. The element gain pattern is shown to converge for a relatively few number of elements and there is no indication of undesired blind spots. 相似文献
