We report on the fabrication of a carbon nanotube field emission backlight unit (CNT-BLU) and its application for liquid crystal displays (LCD). The CNT-BLU was operated with locally controllable luminance and impulse-type scanning. The local luminance control, which is based on a very small block size of 1?cm(2), consisted of local dimming and local brightening. This resulted in the contrast ratio of the LCD-TV to be as high as 300?000:1. A fast response time of ~5.7?ms was also achieved from the LCD-TV lit by CNT-BLU, originating from the impulse-type scanning. In addition, the CNT-BLU showed long-term emission stability and high luminance uniformity.  相似文献

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were patterned using inkjet printing. To make the uniform networks of dropped SWCNTs, the effects of substrate heating, surface hydrophilicity of the substrate and the jetting process were investigated. Circuit diagrams including holes, lines and curves were printed on glass and polymer substrates, and the conductive lines were printed on a glass substrate to characterize their electrical properties by I-V curve and impedance measurements. Lines 75?mm long were printed along with the number of overwrites with 150?μm linewidth and width change with five overwrites. As for the results, we confirmed that the dc resistance of the SWCNT line was proportionally changed according to the linewidth and the number of overwrites, and the line feature possessed ohmic characteristics to 2?MHz even after two overwrites.  相似文献

The well-width dependence of the exciton-phonon interaction in Mg(0.1)Zn(0.9)O /ZnO single quantum wells (QWs) with a wedged structure was investigated by photoluminescence (PL) measurements at 4?K. Within the Frank-Condon approximation, the Huang-Rhys factor S, as a measure of the coupling strength between the exciton and the longitudinal-optical (LO) phonon, was extracted from the relative intensities between the first-order phonon replica and the zero-phonon peak. It was found that the value of S increased monotonically with the increase of the well width (L(W)). By studying the excitation-density-dependent PL spectra, this result was successfully explained by taking into account the internal electric field originating from the spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations. The electric field is expected to push electrons and holes to the opposite sides in the well, and consequently results in the increase of S with increasing L(W).  相似文献

This study examined the release of aluminium and fluoride from restorative materials placed in either deciduous or young permanent immature teeth stored in artificial saliva for 1 month. Cavities were prepared in extracted teeth, then filled with a fluoride releasing restorative (glass-ionomer, compomer or composite resin), with and without conditioning as appropriate. The teeth were then stored in artificial saliva for 1 month, after which the amount of aluminium and fluoride released was determined spectrophotometrically. With all materials tested, both aluminium and fluoride were released in all cases. Young immature teeth were associated with lower level of ion release which was attributed to the absorption of ions by the enamel. However, unconditioned samples were usually associated with similar ion release to conditioned ones, suggesting that the loss of mineral phase on conditioning has only a marginal effect on the capacity for ion uptake. The ratio of aluminium to fluoride released varied with the type of tooth, deciduous conditioned teeth generally absorbing proportionately less aluminium than young immature teeth. The overall conclusion is that interaction with ions released by restorative materials is influenced by type of tooth.  相似文献

The water desorption behaviour of three different zinc oxide dental cements (two polycarboxylates, one phosphate) has been studied in detail. Disc-shaped specimens of each material were prepared and allowed to lose water by being subjected to a low humidity desiccating atmosphere over concentrated sulfuric acid. In all three cements, water loss was found to follow Fick’s second law for at least 6 h (until Mt/M values were around 0.5), with diffusion coefficients ranging from 6.03 × 10−8 cm2 s−1 (for the zinc phosphate) to 2.056 × 10−7 cm2 s−1 (for one of the zinc polycarboxylates, Poly F Plus). Equilibration times for desorption were of the order of 8 weeks, and equilibrium water losses ranged from 7.1% for zinc phosphate to 16.9% and 17.4% for the two zinc polycarboxylates.  相似文献

Convective quasi-equilibrium (QE) has for several decades stood as a key postulate for parametrization of the impacts of moist convection at small scales upon the large-scale flow. Departures from QE have motivated stochastic convective parametrization, which in its early stages may be viewed as a sensitivity study. Introducing plausible stochastic terms to modify the existing convective parametrizations can have substantial impact, but, as for so many aspects of convective parametrization, the results are sensitive to details of the assumed processes. We present observational results aimed at helping to constrain convection schemes, with implications for each of conventional, stochastic or 'superparametrization' schemes. The original vision of QE due to Arakawa fares well as a leading approximation, but with a number of updates. Some, like the imperfect connection between the boundary layer and the free troposphere, and the importance of free-tropospheric moisture to buoyancy, are quantitatively important but lie within the framework of ensemble-average convection slaved to the large scale. Observations of critical phenomena associated with a continuous phase transition for precipitation as a function of water vapour and temperature suggest a more substantial revision. While the system's attraction to the critical point is predicted by QE, several fundamental properties of the transition, including high precipitation variance in the critical region, need to be added to the theory. Long-range correlations imply that this variance does not reduce quickly under spatial averaging; scaling associated with this spatial averaging has potential implications for superparametrization. Long tails of the distribution of water vapour create relatively frequent excursions above criticality with associated strong precipitation events.  相似文献

Recently, high-transition-temperature (high-Tc) superconductivity was discovered in the iron pnictide RFeAsO(1-x)F(x) (R, rare-earth metal) family of materials. We use neutron scattering to study the structural and magnetic phase transitions in CeFeAsO(1-x)F(x) as the system is tuned from a semimetal to a high-Tc superconductor through fluorine (F) doping, x. In the undoped state, CeFeAsO develops a structural lattice distortion followed by a collinear antiferromagnetic order with decreasing temperature. With increasing fluorine doping, the structural phase transition decreases gradually and vanishes within the superconductivity dome near x=0.10, whereas the antiferromagnetic order is suppressed before the appearance of superconductivity for x>0.06, resulting in an electronic phase diagram remarkably similar to that of the high-Tc copper oxides. Comparison of the structural evolution of CeFeAsO(1-x)F(x) with other Fe-based superconductors suggests that the structural perfection of the Fe-As tetrahedron is important for the high-Tc superconductivity in these Fe pnictides.  相似文献

We demonstrate a general approach for growing vertically aligned, single-crystalline nanowires of any material on arbitrary substrates by using plasma-sputtered Au/Pd thin films as a catalyst through the vapor-liquid-solid process. The high-energy sputtered Au/Pd atoms form a reactive interface with the substrate forming nanoclusters which get embedded in the substrate, thus providing mechanical stability for vertically aligned nanowire growth. We demonstrate that our approach for vertically aligned nanowire growth is generic and can be extended to various complex substrates such as conducting indium tin oxide.  相似文献

An efficient antireflection coating (ARC) can enhance solar cell performance through increased light coupling. Here, we investigate solution-grown ZnO nanostructures as ARCs for Si solar cells and compare them to conventional single layer ARCs. We find that nanoscale morphology, controlled through synthetic chemistry, has a great effect on the macroscopic ARC performance. Compared with a silicon nitride (SiN) single layer ARC, ZnO nanorod arrays display a broadband reflection suppression from 400 to 1200 nm. For a tapered nanorod array with average tip diameter of 10 nm, we achieve a weighted global reflectance of 6.6%, which is superior to an optimized SiN single layer ARC. Calculations using rigorous coupled wave analysis suggest that the tapered nanorod arrays behave like modified single layer ARCs, where the tapering leads to impedance matching between Si and air through a gradual reduction of the effective refractive index away from the surface, resulting in low reflection particularly at longer wavelengths and eliminating interference fringes through roughening of the air-ZnO interface. According to the calculations, we may further improve ARC performance by tailoring the thickness of the bottom fused ZnO layer and through better control of tip tapering.  相似文献

We report the first direct capacitance measurements of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) and the consequent determination of field carrier mobilities in undoped-channel SiNW field-effect transistors (FETs) at room temperature. We employ a two-FET method for accurate extraction of the intrinsic channel resistance and intrinsic channel capacitance of the SiNWs. The devices used in this study were fabricated using a top-down method to create SiNW FETs with up to 1000 wires in parallel for increasing the raw capacitance while maintaining excellent control on device dimensions and series resistance. We found that, compared with the universal mobility curves for bulk silicon, the electron and hole mobilities in nanowires are comparable to those of the surface orientation that offers a lower mobility.  相似文献
