Recovery of residual oil using the alkali/surfactant/polymer process: effect of alkali concentration
An experimental study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of sodium carbonate in alkali, surfactant and polymer combined slugs in recovering waterflood residual oil. The effects of sodium carbonate concentration on the slug viscosity, interfacial tension, and phase behavior were first examined. Core flood experiments were conducted with unfired linear Berea sandstone cores. The incremental oil recovery, oil cut, residual resistance factor, and chemical propagation were measured for each flood.A significant oil bank was formed for all combined slugs having sodium carbonate concentration ≥1 wt%. The incremental oil recovery, oil cut and the injectivity of the combined slugs greatly improved as sodium carbonate concentration was increased. The effect of sodium carbonate concentration on chemical propagation was dramatic for the synthetic surfactant; a slight delay in surfactant breakthrough and a much slower rate of surfactant propagation were observed at high sodium carbonate concentrations.The results obtained in the present study indicate that the residual oil was recovered by two mechanisms: low interfacial tension and wettability reversal. The former mechanism is dominant at sodium carbonate concentrations ≤1 wt%, whereas the latter plays an important role only at high sodium carbonate concentrations. 相似文献

Doping by ion implantation using Si, O, Mg, and Ca has been studied in single crystal semi-insulating and n-type GaN grown
on a-sapphire substrates. The n-and p-type dopants used in this study are Si and O; Mg and Ca, respectively. Room temperature
activation of Si and O donors has been achieved after 1150°C annealing for 120 s. The activation of Mg and Ca acceptors is
too low to measure at both room temperature and 300°C. Using higher doses to achieve a measurable p-type conduction increases
the amount of damage created by the implantation. Rutherford back scattering measurements on this material indicate that the
damage is still present even after the maximum possible heat treatment. Secondary ion mass spectrometry measurements have

A new three-terminal power switch called the Accumulation Channel driven Bipolar Transistor (ACBT) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the on-state, the characteristics of the ACBT have been found to approach those of a P-I-N rectifier with a MOSFET in series for regulating its current, an equivalent circuit considered to be an ideal for MOS/Bipolar power devices. Unlike previous devices, the high off-state voltage is supported by the formation of a potential barrier to the flow of electrons from the N+ emitter into the N-drift region within a depletion region. The absence of the P-base region within the ACBT cells eliminates the parasitic four layer PNPN thyristor which had limited the performance of previous MOS/Bipolar transistor structures. Families in transition (FIT), a joint program between Beth Israel Medical Center (BIMC) and National Development and Research Institutes, Inc., uses indigenous neighborhood women, Compa?eras (companions), to conduct street outreach in a New York City neighborhood where HIV infection is rampant. The outreach workers inform people that, not only will they be assisted in talking about HIV and guardianship for their children, but that they will be provided information concerning access to food stamps, housing, health care, and other basic needs. Through community participation, the Compa?eras empower themselves through knowledge making and sharing and, in the process, create conditions in which other women can began to effect changes in their individual lives and families. Family studies point to an important genetic element in the genesis of diabetic nephropathy, but it is not known whether renal abnormalities are present prior to the onset of diabetes. To address this issue we examined all consecutive patients suffering from type II diabetes with a duration of more than 10 years who attended a diabetes outpatient clinic. Ninety-four patients had nephropathy, 307 did not. All offspring who were phenotypically normal (no hypertension, normal oral glucose tolerance, non-smoking) and agreed to participate were examined, 26 from nephropathic and 30 from non-nephropathic diabetic parents. They were compared with 30 offspring matched for age, gender and BMI from non-diabetic parents as controls. We measured urinary albumin excretion under baseline conditions and at several time points after ingestion of 300 g cooked beef and submaximal treadmill exercise, respectively. In addition, casual blood pressure, ambulatory blood pressure, urinary albumin and urinary alpha-1-microglobulin were measured. Primary renal disease was excluded by clinical examination. Under baseline conditions, median urinary albumin excretion rate (AER; microgram/min) was significantly (P < 0.005) higher in offspring of nephropathic type II diabetic patients (7.8; range 1.04 to 19.5) than in the offspring of non-nephropathic type II diabetic patients (4.8; 0.36 to 17.5) and controls (4.4; 0.16 to 18.4). Submaximal treadmill exercise caused a greater proportional increase of AER in offspring of nephropathic type II diabetics (median 16-fold) than in offspring of non-nephropathic diabetic patients (6.3-fold) or controls (4.8-fold). In offspring of nephropathic diabetic patients casual and particularly ambulatory systolic blood pressures were significantly higher, but AER was not correlated with blood pressure. In summary, higher values, albeit within the normal range, for baseline and postexercise albuminuria were noted in phenotypically normal offspring of parents with type II diabetes and nephropathy. The observation suggests that changes in transglomerular albumin traffic are demonstrable prior to the onset of diabetes and diabetic nephropathy in subjects with a potential genetic predisposition to these conditions. 相似文献

Iron-based weld hardfacing deposits are used to provide a wear-resistant surface for a structural base material. Iron-based
hardfacing alloys that are resistant to corrosion in oxygenated aqueous environments contain high levels of chromium and carbon,
which results in a dendritic microstructure with a high volume fraction of interdendrite carbides which provide the needed
wear resistance. The ferrite content of the dendrites depends on the nickel content and base composition of the iron-based
hardfacing alloy. The amount of ferrite in the dendrites is shown to have a significant influence on the hardness and galling
wear resistance, as determined using ASTM G98 methods. Fracture-toughness (K
IC) testing in accordance with ASTM E399 methods was used to quantify the damage tolerance of various iron-based hardfacing
alloys. Fractographic and microstructure examinations were used to determine the influence of microstructure on the wear resistance
and fracture toughness of the iron-based hardfacing alloys. A crack-bridging toughening model was shown to describe the influence
of ferrite content on the fracture toughness. A higher ferrite content in the dendrites of an iron-based hardfacing alloy
reduces the tendency for plastic stretching and necking of the dendrites, which results in improved wear resistance, high
hardness, and lower fracture-toughness values. A NOREM 02 hardfacing alloy has the most-optimum ferrite content, which results
in the most-desired balance of galling resistance and high K
