The key design approaches and results in the field of compensation of optical impairment distortion by electronic means, as an outcome of the studies and research innovations developed within the joint project on mitigation of optical transmission impairments by electronic means work group of the ePhoton/ONet European project are presented. The research topics addressed are related to chromatic and polarisation mode dispersion, with particular reference to feed-forward/decision-feedback equaliser and maximum-likelihood sequence estimation-based equalisers as well as pre-distortion schemes. Additionally, the use of electronic compensation in metro/access applications is examined with reference to studies related to the performance enhancement of directly modulated laser transmitters, the compensation of the square-law characteristics of receivers and the equalisation of multi-level format schemes.  相似文献

The use of non-equilibrium models for integrated processes involving liquid-liquid systems has increased in recent years. These processes often exhibit complex dynamic behavior. These dynamical systems still pose many open questions, e.g. with regard to the sources of multiple steady states (MSS). This article analyzes the effect of mass transfer on the MSS of these systems. A generalized non-equilibrium modeling approach based on linear thermodynamics of irreversible processes (LTIP) is presented, and the dynamics of the system is studied systematically. It is shown that the non-linearity present in even the simplest non-ideal activity model acts as a source for MSS. The parameters that affect the solubility, e.g. temperature, can play a critical role on the existence of MSS in the system. A geometrical visualization of the MSS is also illustrated.  相似文献

We define three operations on strings and languages suggested by the process of gene assembly in hypotrichous ciliates. This process is considered to be a prine example of DNA computing in vivo. This paper is devoted to some computational aspects of these operations from a formal language point of view. The closure of the classes of regular and context-free languages under these operations is settled. Then, we consider theld-macronuclear language of a given languageL, which consists of allld-macronuclear strings obtained from the strings ofL by iteratively applying the loop-direct repeat-excision. Finally, we discuss some open problems and further directions of research. Rudolf Freund: He received his master and doctor degree in computer science from the Vienna University of Technology, Austria, in 1980 and 1982, respectively. In 1986, he received his master degree in mathematics and physics from the University Vienna, Austria. In 1988 he joined the Vienna University of Technology in Austria, where he became an Associate Professor in September 1995. He has given various lectures in theoretical computer science, especially on formal languages and automata. His research interests include array and graph grammars, regulated rewritung, infinite words, syntactic pattern recognition, neural networks, and especially models and systems for biological computing. In these fields he is author of more than sixty scientific papers. Carlos Martín-Vide: He is Professor and Head of the Research Group on Mathematical Linguistics at Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain. His specialities are formal language theory and mathematical linguistics. His last volume edited is Where Mathematics, Computer Science, Linguistics and Biology Meet (Kluwer, 2001, with V. Mitrana). He published 150 papers in conference proceedings and journals such as: Acta Informatica, BioSystems. Computational Linguistics, Computers and Artificial Intelligence, Information Processing Letters, Information Sciences, International Journal of Computer Mathematics, New Generation Computing, Publicationes Mathematicae Debrecen, and Theoretical Computer Science. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal Grammars (Kluwer), and the chairman of the 1st International PhD School in Formal Languages and Applications (2001–2003). Victor Mitrana, Ph.D.: He is Professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Bucharest. He received his MSc and PhD from the University of Bucharest in 1986 and 1993, respectively. In 1999 he was awarded with the “Gheorghe Lazar” Prize for Mathematics of the Romanian Academy. His research interests include: formal language theory and applications, combinatorics on words, computational models inspired from biology, mathematical linguistics. In these areas, he published three books, more than 100 papers, and edited two books. He is an associate editor of “The Korean Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics” and an editor of “Journal of Universal Computer Science”.  相似文献

When operating scanning probe microscopes, like STM or AFM, under ambient conditions, the presence of water on the sample and the tip always plays an important role. The water not only influences the structure of the sample itself, but also the imaging process; in the case of the STM using a wet etched w-tip, by interfering with the electron transfer process, and in the case of the AFM, due to the capillary forces in the micro Newton range that dominate the tip surface interaction forces. In this paper, the distribution and the amount of adsorbed water on different surfaces is investigated with the help of the STM, which can provide information by imaging and by current/distance spectroscopy. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces like titanium, gold, and graphite were studied at a relative humidity between 10 and 90%. Under very dry conditions with relative humidity below 15%, the presence of water was only detectable by the longer decay length of the measured current with distance compared to samples prepared in UHV completely free of water. At less dry conditions on gold surfaces, water was found as droplets. With increasing humidity, the quantity and the size of these droplets increased until the whole surface became covered with water. Above 55% humidity, the thickness of the water film increased with increasing humidity up to several 10 nm. On titanium and graphite, water was always present in the form of closed layers growing in thickness with increasing humidity.  相似文献

The monocytic cell line THP-1 can be induced to express and release tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) and both TNFalpha receptors (p55 and p75) upon exposure to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The broad-spectrum matrix metalloprotease (MMP) inhibitors [4-(N-hydroxyamino)-2R-isobutyl-3S-(phenylthiomethyl)succinyl]-L-p henylalanine-N-methylamide (GI-129471) and marimastat [2S-[N4(R*),2R*,3S*]]-N4[2,2-dimethyl-1-[(methylamino)carbonyl]propyl]-N 1,2-dihydroxy-3-(2-methylpropyl)butanediamide (BB-2516) were effective inhibitors of LPS-induced TNFalpha (soluble) release with IC50 values of 0.2 and 4.0 microM, respectively. Upon LPS stimulation, the expression of pro-TNFalpha (membrane associated) on the cell surface (FACS analysis) could not be observed. However, in the presence of GI-129471, a concentration-dependent increase in TNFalpha surface expression was observed. Peak expression (percentage of cells expressing pro-TNFalpha and mean fluorescence units) in the presence of GI-129471 was at 2 hr, and steadily declined to return to near control levels by 8 hr. This time course was similar to TNFalpha release, which also peaked at 2-4 hr after LPS exposure and then declined. Stimulation of THP-1 cells with LPS + phorbol myristate acetate increased the percentage of cells expressing pro-TNFalpha by 10-fold. In the presence of GI-129471, these increases were augmented further and peaked between 2 and 4 hr, but also returned to near control levels of expression by 24 hr. This was in contrast to the release of soluble TNFalpha, which continued to accumulate over a 24-hr time course. TNFalpha receptor I (p55, TNFRI) and II (p75, TNFRII) shedding was also inhibited by GI-129471 (IC50 = 1.5 and 3.1 microM, respectively) and BB-2516 (IC50 = 14 and 15 microM, respectively). Unlike pro-TNFalpha surface expression, surface expression of both TNFalpha receptors steadily increased over 72 hr. In contrast to pro-TNFalpha surface expression, TNFRI surface expression was not augmented by these MMP inhibitors in THP-1 cells after LPS stimulation. Surface expression of TNFRII was augmented by these MMP inhibitors. These results suggest that even in the continued presence of LPS stimulation and an inhibitor of TNFalpha processing, the augmented surface expression of TNFalpha is transient. The potential "deleterious" implications of high levels of surface pro-TNFalpha expression in the presence of these inhibitors may be lessened by its transient nature.  相似文献

The authors develop a self-consistent formulation of the linear gain in both helical and planar wiggler configurations in the presence of an axial energy spread derived from a beam pitch-angle spread. Such a beam may be thought of as monoenergetic but with a non-vanishing emittance. The analysis includes collective Raman effects for both the helical and planar wiggler systems, and describes the gain at harmonics in the case of a planar wiggler. Eptifibatide, a synthetic peptide inhibitor of the platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor, has been studied as an antithrombotic agent in a variety of acute ischemic coronary syndromes. The purpose of the present study was to characterize the disposition of 14C-eptifibatide in man after a single intravenous (i.v.) bolus dose. 14C-Eptifibatide (approximately 50 microCi) was administered to eight healthy men as a single 135-microgram/kg i.v. bolus. Blood, breath carbon dioxide, urine, and fecal samples were collected for up to 72 hours postdose and analyzed for radioactivity by liquid scintillation spectrometry. Plasma and urine samples were also assayed by liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry for eptifibatide and deamidated eptifibatide (DE). Mean (+/- SD) peak plasma eptifibatide concentrations of 879 +/- 251 ng/mL were achieved at the first sampling time (5 minutes), and concentrations then generally declined biexponentially, with a mean distribution half-life of 5 +/- 2.5 minutes and a mean terminal elimination half-life of 1.13 +/- 0.17 hours. Plasma eptifibatide concentrations and radioactivity declined in parallel, with most of the radioactivity (82.4%) attributed to eptifibatide. A total of approximately 73% of administered radioactivity was recovered in the 72-hour period following 14C-eptifibatide dosing. The primary route of elimination was urinary (98% of the total recovered radioactivity), whereas fecal (1.5%) and breath (0.8%) excretion was small. Eptifibatide is cleared by both renal and nonrenal mechanisms, with renal clearance accounting for approximately 40% of total body clearance. Within the first 24 hours, the drug is primarily excreted in the urine as unmodified eptifibatide (34%), DE (19%), and more polar metabolites (13%).  相似文献
