Life satisfaction and self-reported problems after spinal cord injury: Measurement of underlying dimensions.

Objective: Evaluate the utility of the current 7-scale structure of the Life Situation Questionnaire—Revised (LSQ–R) using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and explore the factor structure of each set of items. Design: Adults (N = 1,543) with traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) were administered the 20 satisfaction and 30 problems items from the LSQ–R. Results: CFA suggests that the existing 7-scale structure across the 50 items was within the acceptable range (root-mean-square error of approximation [RMSEA] = 0.078), although it fell just outside of this range for women. Factor analysis revealed 3 satisfaction factors and 6 problems factors. The overall fit of the problems items (RMSEA = 0.070) was superior to that of the satisfaction items (RMSEA = 0.80). RMSEA fell just outside of the acceptable range for Whites and men on the satisfaction scales. All scales had acceptable internal consistency. Conclusion: Results suggest the original scoring of the LSQ–R remains viable, although individual results should be reviewed for special population. Factor analysis of subsets of items allows satisfaction and problems items to be used independently, depending on the study purpose. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)

Field trapping of threeEpinotia species with (Z,Z)-7,9-dodecadienyl acetate (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)

Field survey of the geometrical isomers of 7,9-dodecadienyl alcohol, acetate, and aldehyde has resulted in attractants and inhibitors for three species of tortricid moths.Epinotia silvertoniensis and an undescribedEpinotia sp. were all attracted to (Z,Z)-7,9-dodecadienyl acetate. AnotherEpinotia sp. was attracted to (Z,Z)-7,9-dodecadienyl acetate and (Z,Z)-7,9-dodecadien-1-ol. Electroantennogram data and inhibition patterns for one of theEpinotia sp. are also reported. In addition,E. criddleana was attracted to lures containing (E)-9-dodecenyl acetate.     

Attraction of moth species of Tortricidae,Gelechiidae, Geometridae,Drepanidae, Pyralidae,and Gracillariidae families to field traps baited with conjugated dienes

Field surveys of a series of conjugated diunsaturated straight-chain primary alcohols, acetates, and aldehydes (dienes), including the 3,5-dode-cadienyl, 8,10-dodecadienyl, 3,5-tetradecadienyl, 8,10-tetradecadienyl, 9,11-tetradecadienyl, and 10,12-tetradecadienyl primary alcohols, acetates, and most aldehydes, and the related monounsaturated straight-chain primary alcohols, acetates, and aldehydes (monoenes), including the 3-dodecadienyl alcohol and acetates, attracted the following species from the title families. Diene attractants have been demonstrated for at least onePhyllonorycter sp.,Chionodes lugubrella (Fabr.),Leptostales ferruminaria (Zell.),Drepana bilineata (Pack.),Pyrausta fodinalis (Led.),Notocelia purpurissatana Heinr.,Phaneta alterana Heinr. Monoene attractants were demonstrated forHedya separatana (Kft.),Cydia fletcherana (Kft.),Barbara mappana Free.,Ancylis burgessiana (Zell.),Ancylis nubeculana Clem.,Evippe prunifoliella Cham.,Phlyctaenia coronata tertialis (Gn.), aChionodes sp., a Gelechiidae sp., and an unidentifiedPhyllonorycter sp. Replicated field experiments showed attraction-inhibition relationships for most species. Electroantennagram data are presented forLeptostales ferruminaria andDrepana bilineata.     

Ferrocene-bound polyester resins

Seven ferrocene-bound polyester resins were prepared from fumaric acid and diethylene glycol in the presence of different ferrocene derivatives. To accomplish the incorporation of the organometallic moiety into the polyester resin chain, the cyclopentadienyl rings of ferrocene were substituted in the 1,1′ positions with reactive functional groups. The ferrocene derivatives used were: 1,1′-bis(1-hydroxyethyl) ferrocene 1 , 1,1′-ferrocene dicarboxylic acid 2 , and 1,1′-ferrocene diacetic acid 3 . The incorporation of an organometallic complex significantly increased the rate of the polyesterification process. In order of increasing rate enhancement, the effect was 2 < 3 < 1 . The effectiveness of ferrocene derivatives chemically incorporated into the polyester backbone during copolymerization with styrene was studied by monitoring the gel time, cure rate, and the resin properties. The efficiency of the copolymerization reaction of ferrocene-bound polymers with styrene decreased in the order 1 ≥ 3 > 2 . Mechanisms to account for these results are presented. Some of the strength related properties were also studied.     

Cation Transport at 25°C from Binary Cd2+–Mn+ Mixtures in a H2O-CHCl3–H2O Liquid Membrane System Containing a Series of Macrocyclic Carriers[1]

Macrocycle-mediated fluxes of Cd(NO₃)₂ and of several binary mixtures of Cd(NO₃)₂ with the nitrate salt of either Na⁺, K⁺, Rb⁺ Cs⁺, Ag⁺, Ca²⁺, Sr²⁺, Pb²⁺, Zn²⁺, or Cu²⁺ have been determined in a H₂O-CHCl₃–H₂O liquid membrane system. Of the macrocycles studied, 2.2 and 2.2DD most successfully transported Cd²⁺ In the Cd²⁺–Mⁿ⁺ mixtures, Cd²⁺ was transported selectively with 2.2 when Mⁿ⁺ was either an alkali or an alkaline earth cation. However, when Mⁿ⁺ was either Ag⁺, Pb²⁺, or Cu²⁺ the Cd²⁺ flux was reduced sharply. Generally, cation flux was greater for 2.2DD than for 2.2 with selectivity for Cd²⁺ being altered also in several cases. Relative fluxes from binary cation mixtures depend on metal cation radius, macrocycle cavity diameter, ligand ring substituent and log K for metal ion-macrocycle interaction.     

Kinetics of reappearance of suppressed allotypes in multiheterozygous rabbits (author's transl)

Heterozygous rabbits of genotype a1n81f73g74/a2n82f71g75 were injected at birth with anti-al antiserum. The suppression of the VHa1 allotype resulted in a similar concommitant suppression of the constant region allotypes coded by genes of the same allogroup as a1. After 3 to 4 months the suppressed allotypes were re-expressed in measurable amounts. At 6 months in the 3 suppressed animals, the proportion of suppressed allotypes (S) to the non-suppressed ones (NS) was higher among colostrum and serum IgA (50% S, 50% NS) than among IgG for IgM. Among these two latter classes the proportion S/(S + NS) remained low (about 15% S, 85% NS) over an 18 month period in two out of three suppressed rabbits. In the third one, the proportion S/(S + NS) among IgG molecules increased to increasing concentration of S allotypes is not compensated by a decrease in concentrations of NS allotypes. The study of these phenomena could bring a better understanding of mechanisms involved in regulation of Ig synthesis and in allotype suppression.
