"Ondol" is a Korean unique heating system. It is a specific radiant floor heating system using combustion heat of briquette or timber in Korea. Such traditional "Ondol" is changed to radiant heating system with pipe-coil embedded in the floor or slab. This study has contributed to the understandings of the transient behaviours of Ondol-heated floor panels and enclosure exposed to this type of heating system. The result is that the water supply temperature had a large effect on the rate of increase in floor surface and room air temperature. But, in spite of a higher water supply temperature, the heat flow rate was not increased considerably. The shallow pipe embedding depths, of course, result in a low heat flow rate.  相似文献

This study examined the relationship between three of the “Big Five” traits (neuroticism, extraversion, and openness), self-esteem, loneliness and narcissism, and Facebook use. Participants were 393 first year undergraduate psychology students from a medium-sized Australian university who completed an online questionnaire. Negative binomial regression models showed that students with higher openness levels reported spending more time on Facebook and having more friends on Facebook. Interestingly, students with higher levels of loneliness reported having more Facebook friends. Extraversion, neuroticism, self-esteem and narcissism did not have significant associations with Facebook use. It was concluded that students who are high in openness use Facebook to connect with others in order to discuss a wide range of interests, whereas students who are high in loneliness use the site to compensate for their lack of offline relationships.  相似文献

1. Using single fibre vagal afferent recording, we have studied the behavior of slowly adapting stretch receptors located in an isolated, in situ, segment of the trachea in dogs. Responses to positive and negative steady and oscillating transmural pressures were investigated. 2. Seventy-eight per cent of the receptors studied were tonically active at resting tracheal volume. Ninety per cent showed a more pronounced response to positive than to negative transmural pressures. 3. During pressure oscillations the majority of the receptors had a higher discharge frequency at any given pressure during the ascending phase of the pressure wave than at the same pressure under static conditions. During most of the ensuing descent of pressure toward zero the discharge frequency led transmural pressure. 4. With increasing frequency of oscillation the differences from the static responses increased (dP/dt sensitivity), especially during the ascending limb of the pressure oscillation (rectifying behavior). 5. In a small number of receptors, discharge frequency lagged behind transmural pressure or was in phase with it ("no loop" pattern). 6. In three cases the same receptor exhibited dP/dt sensitivity during positive pressure oscillations, whereas discharge frequency lagged behind pressure during negative pressure oscillations. This indicates that the lack of dP/dt sensitivity exhibited under negative pressure conditions does not represent an intrinsic property of these receptors, but reflects some aspect of their mechanical arrangement within the airway wall. 7. THESE PATTERNS OF RESPONSE ARE DISCUSSed in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics of the receptors. 8. Two-dimensional simulations of the spinodal decomposition of self-stressed, binary thin films using a Cahn-Hilliard model are presented. Two different sets of mechanical boundary conditions are considered, and compositional strains for a cubic-anisotropic system under plane strain are treated. A composition-dependent interaction energy is assumed at the free surface. Numerical solution of the coupled Cahn-Hilliard and elastic equilibrium equations are obtained using an efficient nonlinear multigrid method. Results of simulations show that, for large enough compositional strain, surface-directed decomposition occurs at the traction-free surface, even when there is negligible surface interaction energy initially attracting one of the components. This decomposition is controlled by elasticity, and results in a local alignment of phases perpendicular to the free surface, in contrast to the parallel alignment produced by surface energy in stress-free systems.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare qualitative patterns of corneal topography early in the postoperative course after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) when used for the treatment of myopia of 6.0 to 15.0 diopters. DESIGN: The study design was a prospective, multicenter, randomized clinical trial. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 64 eyes were treated with PRK and 54 eyes were treated with LASIK. INTERVENTION: Using the Summit Apex excimer laser, patients received either PRK or LASIK using a single pass, multizone excimer laser ablation. Computer-assisted videokeratography was performed at designated postoperative examinations. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Videokeratography maps at 1 and 3 months after surgery were classified using a standard classification scheme. The association of topography patterns to loss of spectacle-corrected visual acuity was tested. RESULTS: At 1 month, for the PRK (n = 60) and LASIK (n = 51) groups, respectively, 63.3% and 19.6% of eyes fell into one of the four optically irregular groups (central island, keyhole, semicircular, or irregularly irregular; P < 0.001). At 3 months, for the PRK (n = 49) and LASIK (n = 39) groups, respectively, 36.7% and 10.3% of eyes fell into one of the optically irregular groups (P = 0.004). Comparing the 1- and 3-month examination results in the PRK and LASIK groups, respectively, 19 (42%) of 45 eyes and 11 (31%) of 36 eyes had a change in topography, generally to an optically smoother pattern. The irregular groups, taken together, were associated with a greater tendency toward loss of spectacle-corrected visual acuity of two or more Snellen lines (P = 0.01). There also was greater tendency toward loss of spectacle-corrected visual acuity in the PRK group that diminished with time (P < 0.01 at 1 month, P = 0.05 at 3 months). CONCLUSIONS: After treatment for moderate-to-high myopia, LASIK topography patterns generally are more regular than are PRK patterns. This may be a result either of masking of underlying topography perturbations by the lamellar corneal flap, thus mitigating induced topography changes, or differences in surface wound healing. This study suggests that more rapid return of spectacle-corrected visual acuity found in patients treated with LASIK may be a result of more regular topography patterns early in the postoperative course.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our study was to review and report the patient selection, techniques, and results of percutaneous drainage of pancreatic abscesses by retrospective review. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-nine patients (46 men and 13 women) with a mean age of 44 years old had 80 pancreatic abscesses that were drained percutaneously under radiologic guidance (CT, n = 77; sonography, n = 2; and fluoroscopy, n = 1). Abscesses had a wide spectrum of causes, with alcoholic pancreatitis being most common, trauma second most common, and gallstones third. Ten patients had undergone surgery for pancreatic necrosis or abscess. Patients with pancreatic pseudocysts, necrosis, or acute fluid collections were excluded from this study. RESULTS: Of the 59 patients, 51 (86%) were cured with percutaneous drainage and antibiotic therapy. Of the patients who were not cured with percutaneous drainage, seven required surgery and one underwent repeat percutaneous drainage. In the 59 patients, complications included non-life-threatening bleeding in three patients. Ten of 59 patients (17%) had fistulas that spontaneously formed into the gastrointestinal tract. The duration of catheterization ranged from 4 to 119 days, with a mean duration of 33 days. The rate of mortality at 30 days after completion of percutaneous drainage was 8% (5 of 59). CONCLUSION: Percutaneous drainage was an effective therapy for this defined group of patients with pancreatic abscesses. Factors leading to the relatively high success rate described in this study likely included selection of patients; catheters of adequate size, number, and location; careful follow-up with appropriate catheter manipulations; and an integrated, cooperative approach whereby surgeons were willing to permit drainage to effect its benefits, rather than operating prematurely.  相似文献

The mechanism(s) of insulin resistance in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus remains ill defined. The current studies sought to determine whether non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus is associated with (a) a delay in the rate of onset of insulin action, (b) impaired hepatic and extrahepatic kinetic responses to insulin, and (c) an alteration in the contribution of gluconeogenesis to hepatic glucose release. To answer these questions, glucose disappearance, glucose release, and the rate of incorporation of 14CO2 into glucose were measured during 0.5 and 1.0 mU/kg-1 per min-1 insulin infusions while glucose was clamped at approximately 95 mg/dl in diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. The absolute rate of disappearance was lower (P < 0.05) and the rate of increase slower (P < 0.05) in diabetic than nondiabetic subjects during both insulin infusions. In contrast, the rate of suppression of glucose release in response to a change in insulin did not differ in the diabetic and nondiabetic subjects during either the low (slope 30-240 min:0.02 +/- 0.01 vs 0.02 +/- 0.01) or high (0.02 +/- 0.00 vs 0.02 +/- 0.00) insulin infusions. However, the hepatic response to insulin was not entirely normal in the diabetic subjects. Both glucose release and the proportion of systemic glucose being derived from 14CO2 (an index of gluconeogenesis) was inappropriately high for the prevailing insulin concentration in the diabetic subjects. Thus non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus slows the rate-limiting step in insulin action in muscle but not liver and alters the relative contribution of gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis to hepatic glucose release.  相似文献

Cancer is a disease exhibiting uncontrollable cell growth and spreading to other parts of the organism. It is a heavy, worldwide burden for mankind with high morbidity and mortality. Therefore, groundbreaking research and innovations are necessary. Research in space under microgravity (µg) conditions is a novel approach with the potential to fight cancer and develop future cancer therapies. Space travel is accompanied by adverse effects on our health, and there is a need to counteract these health problems. On the cellular level, studies have shown that real (r-) and simulated (s-) µg impact survival, apoptosis, proliferation, migration, and adhesion as well as the cytoskeleton, the extracellular matrix, focal adhesion, and growth factors in cancer cells. Moreover, the µg-environment induces in vitro 3D tumor models (multicellular spheroids and organoids) with a high potential for preclinical drug targeting, cancer drug development, and studying the processes of cancer progression and metastasis on a molecular level. This review focuses on the effects of r- and s-µg on different types of cells deriving from thyroid, breast, lung, skin, and prostate cancer, as well as tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, we summarize the current knowledge of the impact of µg on cancerous stem cells. The information demonstrates that µg has become an important new technology for increasing current knowledge of cancer biology.  相似文献

The present study is concerned with the numerical approximation of periodic solutions of systems of Korteweg–de Vries type, coupled through their nonlinear terms. We construct, analyze and numerically validate two types of schemes that differ in their treatment of the third derivatives appearing in the system. One approach preserves a certain important invariant of the system, up to round-off error, while the other, somewhat more standard method introduces a measure of dissipation. For both methods, we prove convergence of a semi-discrete approximation and highlight differences in the basic assumptions required for each. Numerical experiments are also conducted with the aim of ascertaining the accuracy of the two schemes when integrations are made over long time intervals.  相似文献

For the cancer cells which have overcome the second mitotic clock (M2), activated telomerase is essential and used as another marker of immortality. Many trials had been initiated to target telomerase, which is known to be specific to tumors. To determine the best in vitro cell system for testing the efficacy of telomerase inhibitors, we evaluated the telomerase activity of various cancer cell lines and measured their telomere lengths. We also treated some cancer cell lines with adriamycin and measured the changes of telomerase activity. Telomerase activity was evaluated in various cell lines with the TRAP (telomeric repeat amplification protocol) assay. Telomerase activity was calculated and translated into arbitrary units by computer-assisted densitometry with the control of telomerase activity in the 293 control cell line. Also, terminal restriction fragment lengths were measured using Southern blotting. We also measured telomerase activity and telomere lengths in 11 benign breast tumor tissues and 19 paired stomach cancer and normal tissues. Cancer cell lines treated with adriamycin we evaluated for changes of telomerase activity and the cell proliferation by MTT assay and dye exclusion test. Telomerase activity of cell lines was 95.3 24.1 unit with a range of 27.6-129.6 unit, while the telomere lengths of those cell lines were variable from 5.0 to 10.4 kbp with a median of 6 kbp. In 11 cancer cell lines which were not yet firmly established, we could not detect any telomerase activity. Low telomerase activity was detected in only 2 benign tumor tissues of breast with a median telomere length of 8.8 (7-10.5) kbp. Among paired 19 gastric cancer and normal tissues, only 7 cancer tissues showed weak telomerase activity. After adriamycin treatment, telomerase activity in YCC-S-1, YCC-S-3, MCF-7 and MCF-7/ADR was decreased in accordance with the changes of the cell numbers. Telomerase is specific to cancer tissues and is expressed differently from organ to organ. Telomerase activity by TRAP assay could be used as a chemosensitivity assay.  相似文献
