This study was initiated to examine the feasibility of providing multimedia mail, in particular video mail, on the existing World Wide Web platform. In this instance, the Web browser will act as the user agent of the mailing system. With this, users will be able to compose, send and read video mail directly on the Web. This paper examines a number of possible system architectures that can be employed for the development of video mail. Based on the following key issues: portability of system, flexibility of system, Internet standard support, security and authentication, and message compression and storage, a final architecture was selected to build video mail. The approach taken is that the system will be interfaced to the Web using a standard HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server and a standard Web browser. This is achieved through the use of Common Gateway Interface (CGI) programs and forms which reside in a standard HTTP server to provide the functionality of video mail, and a separate mail server for the storage and management of messages. This will cause the HTTP server to behave as if it is an electronic mail (E-mail) system. Video mail has been successfully implemented at the School of Applied Science, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The development work has been carried out on a Sun SPARC5 workstation and the Typhoon relational database system was used to construct the mail server. All software codes were written in C or C++. A video capturing application used in conjunction with a SunVideo card has been developed for video and audio recording. The paper also addresses implementation issues pertaining to the use of CGI programs, mail server development, and video and audio management.  相似文献

This paper empirically tests the interactive effects of air pollution and economic spillovers in Chinese cities from 2003 to 2010. The results show that Chinese cities benefit from the economic spillovers from surrounding cities, but bear the costs of negative air pollution externalities created by neighboring cities. We use wind direction and the administrative boundaries of provinces to disentangle possible multicollinearity between air pollution emissions and economic spillovers across cities. However, the results could not reject the growth-restricting effects of air pollution from neighboring cities. The results imply that the development of a city surrounded by polluters is likely to be constrained.  相似文献

CD26 has been reported as a marker for colorectal cancer stem cells endowed with tumor-initiating properties and capable of colorectal cancer (CRC) metastasis. In this study, we investigated the functional effect of CD26 on CRC angiogenesis and metastasis, and the potential underlying mechanism. The functional effects of CD26 overexpression or repression were determined by a wound healing experiment, and cell migration and invasion assays in vitro and in mouse models. Differentially expressed genes regulated by CD26 were identified by genome-wide mRNA expression array and validated by quantitative PCR. CD26 functionally regulated CRC cell migration and invasion in vitro and angiogenesis and metastasis in vivo. Genome-wide mRNA expression array and qPCR showed that MMP1 was up-regulated in CD26+ subpopulation, and a subsequent experiment demonstrated the regulatory effect of CD26 on MMP1 in CRC cell lines with CD26 repression or overexpression. Furthermore, overexpression of CAV1 abrogated the CD26-regulated MMP1 induction in CRC cell lines. This study demonstrated the functional roles of CD26 in inducing CRC migration, invasion, angiogenesis and metastasis and identified the potential involvement of MMP1 and CAV1 in such process. CD26 is an attractive therapeutic target for combating tumor progression to improve the prognosis of CRC patients.  相似文献

Stepping into the new globalizes and paradigm shifted era, a huge revolution has been undergone by the electrochemical industry. From a humble candidate of the superconductor resources, today electrosorption has demonstrated its wide variety of usefulness, almost in every part of the environmental conservation. With the renaissance of activated carbon (AC), there has been a steadily growing interest in this research field. The paper presents a state of art review of electrosorption technology, its background studies, fundamental chemistry and working principles. Moreover, recent development of the activated carbon assisted electrosorption process, its major challenges together with the future expectation are summarized and discussed. Conclusively, the expanding of electrosorption in the field of adsorption science represents a potentially viable and powerful tool, leading to the superior improvement of pollution control and environmental preservation.  相似文献

Despite the large difference in their nucleophilicity, phenoxide and carboxylate anions take part nearly simultaneously in the aliphatic nucleophilic substitution reaction with 1,4‐dibromo‐2‐butene. This leads to the formation of ether (? O? ) and ester (? COO? ) linkages simultaneously under mild reaction conditions when hydroxyl benzoic acids are employed as nucleophiles. The process yields a new class of polymer broadly classified as unsaturated poly(ether ester) which are potentially functionalizable. Backpropagation networks are compared to radial basis function (RBF) networks when it comes to small signal modeling RF/microwave active devices. The modeled device is a 4×50 μm gate width, 0.25 μm gate length gallium arsenide (GaAs) Metal semiconductor field-effect transistor (MESFET). It is the authors’ intent to prove that RBF networks provide much better performance than backpropagation when it comes to this type of modeling. First, two separate backpropagation networks are created to determine the best training algorithm in terms of convergence speed. Then, the backpropagation network, using its best training algorithm, is compared to the RBF network in terms of speed and accuracy. Simulation results are presented in tables and figures for better understanding. All tests and simulations for the backpropagation and RBF networks are done using Matlab's Neural Network Toolbox.  相似文献

The growth-promoting activity of PDGF-BB was studied on the adult osteoclasts in the present study. The PDGF receptor beta was detected on the osteoclast membrane through immunohistochemistry (LSAB method) and immunomicroscopy. The PDGF-BB was exerted on the osteoclasts that adhered to the bone slice at concentrations of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 ng/ml. The volume of Howship's lacuna augmented significantly and the number of resorption pits also increased with its dose (p < 0.01). The activity of both total acid phosphatase (ACP) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) increased significantly. These results suggest that PDGF-BB promotes adult osteoclastic bone resorption directly through PDGF receptor beta and is believed to play important roles in the bone healing process and reconstruction.  相似文献

We studied the interaction of azole antimycotics with intravenous (IV) and oral midazolam using a cross-over design in 12 volunteers, who ingested placebo, itraconazole, or fluconazole for 6 days. A 7.5-mg dose of midazolam was ingested on the first day, 0.05 mg/kg was administered IV on the fourth day, and 7.5 mg orally on the sixth day. Itraconazole reduced the clearance of IV midazolam by 69% and fluconazole reduced the clearance of IV midazolam by 51% (P < 0.001). A single dose of itraconazole and fluconazole increased the area under the oral midazolam concentration-time curve [AUC(0-infinity)] 3.5-fold (P < 0.001) and the peak concentration two-fold (P < 0.05) compared to placebo. On the sixth day the AUC(0-infinity) of oral midazolam was almost seven times greater with itraconazole (P < 0.001) and 3.6 times greater with fluconazole (P < 0.001) than without the antimycotics. The psychomotor effects of midazolam were also profoundly increased (P < 0.001). The psychomotor tests demonstrated only a weak interaction between the antimycotics and IV midazolam. When bolus doses of midazolam are given for short- time sedation, the effect of midazolam is not increased to a clinically significant degree by itraconazole and fluconazole, and it can be used in normal doses. However, the use of large doses of IV midazolam increases the risk of clinically significant interactions also after IV midazolam. Use of oral midazolam with itraconazole and fluconazole should be avoided.  相似文献

The influence of high-frequency microstimulation (HFMS) of one of the hemispheres on the parameters of spontaneous gamma-oscillations in the neural network containing callosal cells of the motor cortex of both hemispheres. There were three modes in the background oscillation periods distribution, which corresponded to the frequencies 40-60, 70-100, and 100-200 Hz. These oscillation frequencies were also revealed after the HFMS in neural interactions of the cells, which were active before the HFMS; the frequency 40-60 Hz, which dominated before the HFMS, became even more pronounced. The same three groups of oscillation frequencies were found in the activity of cells which became active after the HFMS. The expression of oscillations, the number of oscillatory interactions, as well as the number of neuronal pairs with additional synchronization decreased after the HFMS, which suggests a decrease in synchronization. Taking into account the results of simulation experiments that the frequency of gamma-oscillations is determined by the strength of inhibitory and excitatory input, we suggest that the long-term posttetanic modifications in the efficacy of synaptic inputs of the neurons of both hemispheres underlie the observed posttetanic changes.  相似文献
