In future wireless networks, a mobile terminal will be able to communicate with a service provider using several network connections. These connections to networks will have different properties and they will be priced separately. In order to minimize the total communication time and the total transmission costs, an automatic method for selecting the network connections is needed. Here, we describe the network connection selection problem and formulate it mathematically. We discuss solving the problem and analyse different multiobjective optimization approaches for it. 相似文献

Smart home environments have evolved to the point where everyday objects and devices at home can be networked to give the inhabitants new means to control them. Familiar information appliances can be used as user interfaces (UIs) to home functions to achieve a more convenient user experience. This paper reports an ethnographic study of smart home usability and living experience. The purpose of the research was to evaluate three UIs—a PC, a media terminal, and a mobile phone—for smart home environments. The results show two main types of activity patterns, pattern control and instant control, which require different UI solutions. The results suggest that a PC can act as a central unit to control functions for activity patterns that can be planned and determined in advance. The mobile phone, on the other hand, is well suited for instant control. The mobile phone turned out to be the primary and most frequently used UI during the 6-month trial period in the smart apartment. 相似文献

functions have been suggested in the literature based on different approaches. Here we concentrate on classification and reference

We compare their theoretical properties and numerical behaviour. In particular, we are interested in the relation between

The human derma emits volatile compounds whose interaction with a receiver's olfactory sensory system may affect individual recognition and mating preferences. Studies suggest that both genes and environmental factors determine characteristic odor of an individual. We used solid-phase microextraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to identify 3-methylbutanal in human axillary odor; we showed that the abundance of this volatile compound varies significantly among individuals and demonstrated that its formation in vitro may be influenced by interaction between human leukocyte antigen peptide and dermal microflora. 相似文献

One of the most important bacterial diseases in salmonid aquaculture is furunculosis, caused by Aeromonas salmonicida. Bacterial communication through secreted autoinducer signals, quorum sensing, takes part in the regulation of gene expression in bacteria, influencing growth and virulence. The skin and mucosal surfaces, covered by a mucus layer, are the first point of contact between fish and bacteria. Mucins are highly glycosylated and are the main components of mucus. Here, we validate the Vibrio harveyi BB170 bioreporter assay for quantifying A. salmonicida quorum sensing and study the effects of Atlantic salmon mucins as well as mono- and disaccharides on the AI-2 levels of A. salmonicida. Atlantic salmon mucins from skin, pyloric ceca, proximal and distal intestine reduced A. salmonicida AI-2 levels. Among the saccharides abundant on mucins, fucose, N-acetylneuraminic acid and GlcNAcβ1-3Gal inhibited AI-2 A. salmonicida secretion. Removal of N-acetylneuraminic acid, which is the most abundant terminal residue on mucin glycans on Atlantic salmon mucins, attenuated the inhibitory effects on AI-2 levels of A. salmonicida. Deletion of A. salmonicida luxS abolished AI-2 production. In conclusion, Atlantic salmon mucins regulate A. salmonicida quorum sensing in a luxS and N-acetylneuraminic acid-dependent manner. 相似文献

The fermentation of lignocellulose hydrolysates by Saccharomyces cerevisiae for fuel ethanol production is inhibited by 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF), a furan derivative which is formed during the hydrolysis of lignocellulosic materials. The inhibition can be avoided if the yeast strain used in the fermentation has the ability to reduce HMF to 5-hydroxymethylfurfuryl alcohol. To enable the identification of enzyme(s) responsible for HMF conversion in S. cerevisiae, microarray analyses of two strains with different abilities to convert HMF were performed. Based on the expression data, a subset of 15 reductase genes was chosen to be further examined using an overexpression strain collection. Three candidate genes were cloned from two different strains, TMB3000 and the laboratory strain CEN.PK 113-5D, and overexpressed using a strong promoter in the strain CEN.PK 113-5D. Strains overexpressing ADH6 had increased HMF conversion activity in cell-free crude extracts with both NADPH and NADH as co-factors. In vitro activities were recorded of 8 mU/mg with NADH as co-factor and as high as 1200 mU/mg for the NADPH-coupled reduction. Yeast strains overexpressing ADH6 also had a substantially higher in vivo conversion rate of HMF in both aerobic and anaerobic cultures, showing that the overexpression indeed conveyed the desired increased reduction capacity. 相似文献

Field voles (Microtus agrestis) cause severe damage to young Norway spruce (Picea abies) plantations during wintertime in Fennoscandia. We experimentally investigated vole preference for winter-dormant, naturally regenerated seedlings; spring-planted seedlings; or autumn-planted seedlings; and how preference corresponds with seedling chemistry. Voles showed the highest preference for autumn-planted seedlings and the second highest for spring-planted seedlings, while naturally regenerated seedlings were avoided. The stems of the autumn-planted seedlings contained higher concentrations of nitrogen and piperidine alkaloids and lower concentrations of stilbenes than did the other groups. In addition to differences between naturally regenerated and planted seedlings, we investigated seasonal differences in naturally regenerated P. abies needle and bark secondary chemistry. While piperidine alkaloid concentrations did not vary with season, the soluble non-tannin phenolics of needles and the condensed tannins of bark were lower in May than in November or January. At the time of planting, the concentration of bark piperidine alkaloids was higher in autumn-planted than in spring-planted seedlings. We detected two alkaloids not previously found in P. abies, 2-methyl-6-propyl-1,6-piperideine and a tentatively identified pinidine-isomer. Our results demonstrate that vole choice of spruce seedlings is promoted by high nitrogen and low stilbene content, both associated with seedlings planted late in the season. As vole damage is linked to seedling chemistry, damage potentially could be mitigated by advancing planting or by manipulating plant chemistry in nurseries. 相似文献

The two main classes of statistical cryptanalysis are the linear and differential attacks. They have many variants and enhancements such as the multidimensional linear attacks and the truncated differential attacks. The idea of differential-linear cryptanalysis is to apply first a truncated differential attack and then a linear attack on different parts of the cipher and then combine them to a single distinguisher over the cipher. This method is known since 1994 when Langford and Hellman presented the first differential-linear cryptanalysis of the DES. Recently, in 2014, Blondeau and Nyberg presented a general link between differential and linear attacks. In this paper, we apply this link to develop a concise theory of the differential-linear cryptanalysis. The differential-linear attack can be, in the theoretical sense, considered either as a multidimensional linear or a truncated differential attack, but is for both types an extreme case, which is best measured by the differential-linear bias. We give an exact expression of the bias in a closed form under the sole assumption that the two parts of the cipher are independent. Unlike in the case of ordinary differentials and linear approximations, it is not granted that restricting to a subset of characteristics of a differential-linear hull will give a lower bound on the absolute value of the bias. Given this, we revisit the previous treatments of differential-linear bias by Biham et al. in 2002–2003, Liu et al. in 2009, and Lu in 2012, and formulate assumptions under which a single differential-linear characteristic gives a close estimate of the bias. These results are then generalized by considering a subspace of linear approximations over the second part of the cipher. The European methodology for qualification of non-destructive testing is a well-established approach adopted by nuclear utilities in many European countries. According to this methodology, qualification is based on a combination of technical justification and practical trials. The methodology is qualitative in nature, and it does not give explicit guidance on how the evidence from the technical justification and results from trials should be weighted. A Bayesian model for the quantification process was presented in a previous paper, proposing a way to combine the “soft” evidence contained in a technical justification with the “hard” evidence obtained from practical trials.This paper describes the results of a pilot study in which such a Bayesian model was applied to two realistic Qualification Dossiers by experienced NDT qualification specialists. At the end of the study, recommendations were made and a set of guidelines was developed for the application of the Bayesian model. 相似文献

Investigation of limiting metabolic steps in the utilization of xylose by recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae using metabolic engineering 总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
A Saccharomyces cerevisiae screening strain was designed by combining multiple genetic modifications known to improve xylose utilization with the primary objective of enhancing xylose growth and fermentation in xylose isomerase (XI)-expressing strains. Strain TMB 3045 was obtained by expressing the XI gene from Thermus thermophilus in a strain in which the GRE3 gene coding for aldose reductase was deleted, and the genes encoding xylulokinase (XK) and the enzymes of the non-oxidative pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) [transaldolase (TAL), transketolase (TKL), ribose 5-phosphate ketol-isomerase (RKI) and ribulose 5-phosphate epimerase (RPE)] were overexpressed. A xylose-growing and fermenting strain (TMB 3050) was derived from TMB 3045 by repeated cultivation on xylose medium. Despite its low XI activity, TMB 3050 was capable of aerobic xylose growth and anaerobic ethanol production at 30 degrees C. The aerobic xylose growth rate reached 0.17 l/h when XI was replaced with xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH) genes expressed from a multicopy plasmid, demonstrating that the screening system was functional. Xylose growth had not previously been detected in strains in which the PPP genes were not overexpressed or when overexpressing the PPP genes but having XR and XDH genes chromosomally integrated. This demonstrates the necessity to simultaneously increase the conversion of xylose to xylulose and the metabolic steps downstream of xylulose for efficient xylose utilization in S. cerevisiae. 相似文献
