A three dimensional (3D) mesoscale model of concrete is presented and employed for computational homogenization in the context of mass diffusion. The mesoscale constituents of cement paste, aggregates and interfacial transition zone (ITZ) are contained within a statistical volume element (SVE) on which homogenization is carried out. The model implementation accounts for ITZ anisotropy thereby the diffusivity tensor depends on the normal of the aggregate surface. The homogenized response is compared between 3D and 2D SVEs to study the influence of the third spatial dimension, and for varying mesoscale compositions to study the influence of aggregate content on concrete diffusivity. The computational results show that the effective diffusivity of 3D SVEs is about 40 % greater than 2D SVEs when ITZ is excluded for the SVE, and 17 % when ITZ is included. The results are in agreement with the upper Hashin–Shtrikman bound when ITZ is excluded, and close to the Taylor assumption when ITZ is included.  相似文献

The effect of different extraction conditions and storage time of prepared infusions on the content of bioactive compounds of green teas and their antioxidant capacity were investigated. The content of total phenols, total flavonoids and total non-flavonoids in green teas was determined spectrophotometrically, while 7 flavan-3-ols, 6 phenolic acids and 3 methylxanthines were identified and quantified by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC–PDA). Among the tested green teas bagged green tea Twinings of London was recognized as the richest source of phenolic compounds (3585 mg/L GAE of total phenols). The most abundant phenolic constituents of green tea were flavan-3-ols, of which EGCG was prevailing in all teas (94.54–357.07 mg/L). The highest content of caffeine, as the most abundant methylxanthine, was determined in powdered green tea. The findings of this investigation suggest that extraction efficiency of studied bioactive compounds from green tea depends on the extraction conditions and that maximum extraction efficiency is achieved during aqueous extraction at 80 °C, for 5′ (powder), 15′ (bagged) and 30′ (loose leaf). In order to determine the antioxidant capacity of teas the DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays were applied. Regardless of the extraction conditions all green teas exhibited significant antioxidant capacity in vitro, which was in correlation with their phenolic content, confirming that green tea is one of the best dietary sources of antioxidants.  相似文献

Drinking water quality is routinely monitored in the distribution network but not inside households at the point of consumption. Fluctuating temperatures, residence times (stagnation), pipe materials and decreasing pipe diameters can promote bacterial growth in buildings. To test the influence of stagnation in households on the bacterial cell concentrations and composition, water was sampled from 10 separate households after overnight stagnation and after flushing the taps. Cell concentrations, measured by flow cytometry, increased (2-3-fold) in all water samples after stagnation. This increase was also observed in adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP) concentrations (2-18-fold) and heterotrophic plate counts (4-580-fold). An observed increase in cell biovolume and ATP-per-cell concentrations furthermore suggests that the increase in cell concentrations was due to microbial growth. After 5 min flushing of the taps, cell concentrations and water temperature decreased to the level generally found in the drinking water network. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis also showed a change in the microbial composition after stagnation. This study showed that water stagnation in household pipes results in considerable microbial changes. While hygienic risk was not directly assessed, it emphasizes the need for the development of good material validation methods, recommendations and spot tests for in-house water installations. However, a simple mitigation strategy would be a short flushing of taps prior to use.  相似文献

Fish and fillet of barramundi (Lates calcarifer) and tilapia (Oreochromis species) obtained from wholesale and retail trade were assigned to species by sequencing of PCR products. Two segments (358 and 464 bp) of the cytochrome b gene (cytb) were amplified using universal primers. The amplicons gave characteristic patterns in SSCP-analysis (single strand conformation polymorphism) suitable for differentiation of Lates calcarifer from Lates niloticus and Lateolabrax japonicus. Intra-specific variation of sequences and SSCP patterns were observed for barramundi. In case of tilapia species, it was found to be difficult to identify samples by BLAST due to the high similarity of cytb sequences of O. niloticus, O. mossambicus, O. aureus and Sarotherodon galileus. Four different patterns of single strand DNA (ssDNA) were obtained by SSCP analysis of the 464 bp amplicon of tilapia. Different patterns of ssDNA matched to variations in sequences. Protein profiles obtained by IEF (isoelectric focusing) of water-soluble proteins from raw fillet were found to be suitable for rapid differentiation of Lates calcarifer from Lateolabrax japonicus, but the three different Oreochromis species expressed only minor differences in protein patterns. The patterns of the tilapia and barramundi species showed a number of acidic, heat-stable proteins, presumably representing parvalbumin.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to examine the impact of multi-tasking with digital technologies while attempting to learn from real-time classroom lectures in a university setting. Four digitally-based multi-tasking activities (texting using a cell-phone, emailing, MSN messaging and Facebook™) were compared to 3 control groups (paper-and-pencil note-taking, word-processing note-taking and a natural use of technology condition) over three consecutive lectures. Comparisons indicated that participants in the Facebook™ and MSN conditions performed more poorly than those in the paper-and-pencil use control. Follow-up analyses were required to accommodate the substantial number of students who failed to comply with the limited use of technology specified by their assigned conditions. These analyses indicated that participants who did not use any technologies in the lectures outperformed students who used some form of technology. Consistent with the cognitive bottleneck theory of attention (Welford, 1967) and contrary to popular beliefs, attempting to attend to lectures and engage digital technologies for off-task activities can have a detrimental impact on learning.  相似文献

Prior research has paid little attention to the careers and career models of project managers. This is troublesome for at least two reasons. First, project managers are becoming an increasingly important category of managers and today they constitute a major part of many organizations' leadership capability. Second, traditional literature on careers generally does not address project-based careers as a specific case in point, although this kind of career is unique in the sense that it is based on temporary assignments and lack of formal positions. The research presented in this paper identifies and explains patterns of similarities and differences among applied career models in ten large, mature project-intensive firms in Sweden. The paper identifies a number of factors that seem to be critical for the design of career models for project managers, including the number of levels, the complexity of assignments, and the degree of formal requirements. The paper also outlines two archetypes of career models applied by the firms under study: the competence strategy model and the talent management model.  相似文献

This article explores the topic of intuition, a phenomenon that has received remarkably little attention in the clinical literature. Its purpose is to (a) raise awareness of the nature and promise of intuition, (b) demonstrate the feasibility of systematically studying it and refining its use, and (c) discuss implications for its application in clinical practice. A review of important quantitative and qualitative literature provides evidence about the quality, experience, and improvement of intuition. Based on this evidence, three assumptions and five precepts are proposed for the effective and responsible use of clinical intuition. A brief case study of a 40–yr–old women is also provided. The path of a macromolecule on a cell membrane is modeled by a sum of independent identically distributed random variables. Random variables with simple discrete distribution functions capture some important aspects of the jump or hop diffusion reported from single particle tracking experiments that measure the motion of single molecules on a cell membrane. The detail provided by the distribution function for the random variables is critical for accurate simulations of the motion and interactions of macromolecules on the cell membrane. Additionally, the probability distribution for the random variables is easily estimated from single-particle tracking data. The diffusion constant is given by the second moment of the probability distribution, which agrees with the diffusion constant estimated from the mean-square displacement, and thus represents far less information than the distribution function.  相似文献

Reliable methods are necessary to assess the corrosion level to establish links between structural performance and reinforcement corrosion in concrete structures. Hence, in this study, a set of naturally corroded bars were subjected to metallic brushing, acid immersion, and sandblasting for rust removal. Additionally, 3D optical, CT scanning, and weight loss measurements were used to evaluate the levels of corrosion. The results indicate that sandblasting is an optimal cleaning method. Weight loss measurements are sufficient when detailed information about corrosion is not required, and 3D scanning is preferred if information on corrosion variation along the bar is needed.  相似文献
