In recent years, greenhouse gas emission controls that incorporate the supply chains of products and services, thereby emphasizing the role of consumers rather than producers, have been drawing increasing attention. A country's consumption-based emissions, including those due to global supply chains, reflect the total emissions on which the national economy relies. To design effective emissions control strategies there is therefore an urgent need for countries to elucidate the structural relationship between their domestic economy and emissions occurring through global supply chains. Here we consider the structural characteristics of consumption-based emissions in Japan, which in 2005 totaled 1675 Mt CO(2)eq. Outside the country the Japanese economy generated global emissions of 541 Mt CO(2)eq, 35.7% of which were UNFCCC Annex I emissions and 64.3% were non-Annex I and other emissions. This figure of 64.3% reveals that Japan is actually relying to a considerable degree on emissions that are subject to no international obligations. We identify key economic contributors to consumption-based emissions at the commodity level and specify items of household expenditure that are effective options for both financial savings and emissions reduction. We then discuss the importance of emissions control for evolving toward a "carbon-debt-free country".  相似文献

In order to characterize the complicated corrosive environment around superheater tubes in advanced waste-to-power (WTP) boilers, thermodynamic simulation was conducted using the thermodynamic equilibrium calculation software MALT for Windows. The macroscale of thermodynamically stable compounds at an equilibrium state can be obtained using this software, which is applicable for predicting the macroscale environmental conditions in WTP plants. It was revealed from these calculations that the presence of corrosive gases such as Cl2 derived from HCl may be a corrosive factor in an actual furnace. The calculation results were compared with actual furnace environments by means of other analytical equipment such as IC, ICP–AES, TG–DTA, and fluorescent X-ray analysis. These analytical results suggested the chemical composition, and the local distribution tendency of each element, including the presence of eutectic chloride compounds with low melting points in the ash deposited onto the WTP boiler tubes. On the basis of the comparison between the thermodynamic prediction and different kinds of analytical results, the applicability and limitation of the thermodynamics were discussed.  相似文献

ortho-Quinones are produced in vivo through the oxidation of catecholic substrates by enzymes such as tyrosinase or by transition metal ions. Neuromelanin, a dark pigment present in the substantia nigra and locus coeruleus of the brain, is produced from dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE) via an interaction with cysteine, but it also incorporates their alcoholic and acidic metabolites. In this study we examined the metabolic fate of ortho-quinones derived from the catecholamine metabolites, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylethanol (DOPE), 3,4-dihydroxyphenylethylene glycol (DOPEG), 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylmandelic acid (DOMA). The oxidation of catecholic substrates by mushroom tyrosinase was followed by UV-visible spectrophotometry. HPLC analysis after reduction with NaBH4 or ascorbic acid enabled measurement of the half-lives of ortho-quinones and the identification of their reaction products. Spectrophotometric examination showed that the ortho-quinones initially formed underwent extensive degradation at pH 6.8. HPLC analysis showed that DOPE-quinone and DOPEG-quinone degraded with half-lives of 15 and 30 min at pH 6.8, respectively, and >100 min at pH 5.3. The major product from DOPE-quinone was DOPEG which was produced through the addition of a water molecule to the quinone methide intermediate. DOPEG-quinone yielded a ketone, 2-oxo-DOPE, through the quinone methide intermediate. DOPAC-quinone and DOMA-quinone degraded immediately with decarboxylation of the ortho-quinone intermediates to form 3,4-dihydroxybenzylalcohol (DHBAlc) and 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (DHBAld), respectively. DHBAlc-quinone was converted to DHBAld with a half-life of 9 min, while DHBAld-quinone degraded rapidly with a half-life of 3 min. This study confirmed the fact that ortho-quinones from DOPE, DOPEG, DOPAC and DOMA are converted to quinone methide tautomers as common intermediates, through proton rearrangement or decarboxylation. The unstable quinone methides afford stable alcoholic or carbonyl products.  相似文献

We isolated a Chlamydomonas gene encoding putative γ-glutamyl kinase (GK), an enzyme that catalyzes the first step of proline biosynthesis. Using an Escherichia coli auxotroph and a purified recombinant protein, we show that Chlamydomonas GK is a functional GK. The sensitivity of this kinase to feedback inhibition by proline was lower than in that of microbial GKs previously reported.  相似文献

To obtain insight into the motional features of proteins for enzymatic function, we studied binding reactions between ferredoxin-NADP(+) reductase (FNR) and ferredoxin (Fd) using isothermal titration calorimetry and NMR-based magnetic relaxation and hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HD(ex)). Fd-FNR binding was accompanied by endothermic reactions and driven by the entropy gain. Component-wise analysis of the net entropy change revealed that increases in the conformational entropy of the Fd-FNR complex contributed largely to stabilizing the complex. Intriguingly, analyses of magnetic relaxation and HD(ex) rates with X-ray B factor implied that Fd binding led to both structural stiffening and softening of FNR. Enhanced FNR backbone fluctuations suggest favorable contributions to the net conformational entropy. Fd-bound FNR further showed that relatively large-scale motions of the C terminus, a gatekeeper for interactions of NADP(+) (H), were quenched in the closed form, thereby facilitating exit of NADP(+) (H). This can provide a first dynamic structure-based explanation for the negative cooperativity between Fd and NADP(+) (H) via FNR.  相似文献

The decomposition reaction of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), C(CH2ONO2)4, under static high pressure was examined by conducting observations and infrared measurements up to 5 GPa at around 500 K. The thermal decomposition of PETN proceeded rapidly at around 500 K and formed a fluid consisting of N2O, CO2, and H2O. The rate of the decomposition reaction at 423 K increased as the pressure increased, indicating a negative activation volume. The initial step of the decomposition reaction of PETN under static pressure was presumed to be the elimination of HNO3.  相似文献

An approach to multi-fueled DNA nano-robotics is described. We propose three types of driving force (i.e., fuel for DNA nano-robots): thermal fuel, pH fuel, and light fuel. The thermal fuel controls the hybridization of DNA molecules around the melting temperature. The pH fuel controls the hybridization of the so-called i-motif by changing the pH condition. The light fuel controls the hybridization of DNA oligomers that are intercalated with azobenzene by irradiation with UV or visible light. These three fuels are not mutually exclusive. However, experimental conditions for the fueling of DNA nano-robots show efficacy. Concrete ideas for using these three fuel types are proposed and discussed. In addition, the results of calibration experiments and preliminary results for refining pH fuel sequence are also shown.  相似文献

This paper describes architecture and implementation of a multimedia authoring environment which features content-based management of video.The goal of our work is to provide multimedia application developers with a useful video database, where they gather video materials from various sources, store them in a organized format, and use them in multimedia applications. The principal design concepts are that (1) it should have a flexible means to store video materials in a organized format so that video clips can be retrieved easily, and that (2) it should have a view to each application so that various applications can share the video materials.To meet these requirements we designed a multimedia authoring system based on a video object model. The video object model features (1) a method to attach annotations not only to scenes but also to things shot in the video, and (2) a method to define video clips independently from physical video data.Our experiences in using the system to develop a multimedia CAI application are also described to show the advantages of our system.  相似文献

In electric power supply, railway, and other companies with many facilities, facility management is a laborious task. To realize a computerized facility management system, numerous paper-based facility maps should be stored in a database. In this paper, we present a system that constructs a facility management database by interpretation of paper-based facility maps. This system can automatically recognize structured figures with variable shapes on maps, while conventional methods cannot recognize these figures. And this system can easily generate relational data between facilities and character strings on maps. We compare our recognition method of structured figures with variable shapes with a conventional recognition method, and show the effectiveness of our system.
