Drawing on a conceptual model integrating research on training, work–family interventions, and social support, we conducted a quasi-experimental field study to assess the impact of a supervisor training and self-monitoring intervention designed to increase supervisors' use of family-supportive supervisor behaviors. Pre- and postintervention surveys were completed, 9 months apart, by 239 employees at 6 intervention (N = 117) and 6 control (N = 122) grocery store sites. Thirty-nine supervisors in the 6 intervention sites received the training consisting of 1 hr of self-paced computer-based training, 1 hr of face-to-face group training, followed by instructions for behavioral self-monitoring (recording the frequency of supportive behaviors) to facilitate on-the-job transfer. Results demonstrated a disordinal interaction for the effect of training and family-to-work conflict on employee job satisfaction, turnover intentions, and physical health. In particular, for these outcomes, positive training effects were observed for employees with high family-to-work conflict, whereas negative training effects were observed for employees with low family-to-work conflict. These moderation effects were mediated by the interactive effect of training and family-to-work conflict on employee perceptions of family-supportive supervisor behaviors. Pulmonary fibrosis is one of the important causes of morbidity and mortality in fibroproliferative disorders such as systemic sclerosis (SSc) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-5 (IGFBP-5) is a conserved member of the IGFBP family of proteins that is overexpressed in SSc and IPF lung tissues. In this study, we investigated the functional role of IGFBP-5 in the development of fibrosis in vivo using a transgenic model. We generated transgenic mice ubiquitously expressing human IGFBP-5 using CRISPR/Cas9 knock-in. Our data show that the heterozygous and homozygous mice are viable and express human IGFBP-5 (hIGFBP-5). Transgenic mice had increased expression of extracellular matrix (ECM) genes, especially Col3a1, Fn, and Lox in lung and skin tissues of mice expressing higher transgene levels. Histologic analysis of the skin tissues showed increased dermal thickness, and the lung histology showed subtle changes in the heterozygous and homozygous mice as compared with the wild-type mice. These changes were more pronounced in animals expressing higher levels of hIGFBP-5. Bleomycin increased ECM gene expression in wild-type mice and accentuated an increase in ECM gene expression in transgenic mice, suggesting that transgene expression exacerbated bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Primary lung fibroblasts cultured from lung tissues of homozygous transgenic mice showed significant increases in ECM gene expression and protein levels, further supporting the observation that IGFBP-5 resulted in a fibrotic phenotype in fibroblasts. In summary, transgenic mice expressing human IGFBP-5 could serve as a useful animal model for examining the function of IGFBP-5 in vivo.  相似文献

The thin‐plate specimen of 316L austenite stainless steel was charged with hydrogen using a cathodic charging technique. Despite the short diffusion distance of hydrogen predicted by the diffusion‐controlled model for a semi‐infinite sheet, the Vickers hardness measurements revealed the full effect of hydrogen in the center of the cross‐sections of thin‐plate specimens as well as in the vicinity of the outer surfaces, which appears to be due to the short‐circuit diffusion mechanism along the grain boundaries. The room‐temperature tensile properties of both undeformed and deformed (20, 40%) samples were examined and compared. Hydrogen softening was apparent in both types of samples. For example, the 40% deformed sample showed an approximately 17 and 7% lower yield and tensile strength, respectively, after H charging at a strain rate of 2 × 10?4 s?1 with a concomitant decrease in ductility compared to that without H.  相似文献

Screw presses offer one means for extracting oil from crambe seed. Crambe seed was steam-cooked at 80 to 112°C for 5 to 20 min, dried to 6% (wet basis), and screw-pressed. Meal residual oil decreased with increased cooking time and temperature to a minimum at 10 to 15 min and 100°C (8.5 to 8.9% oil vs. 11 to 12% in uncooked or lightly cooked seed). More intense cooking increased residual oil to a high of 16% at 20 min and 112°C. The degree of cooking was quantified using indices based on light absorbance at 280 nm (A280 index, a measure of soluble protein) and myrosinase activity for aqueous seed extracts. Regression analysis showed that oil recovery, meal residual oil, and the A280 index were significantly correlated with cooking time and temperature. A plot of residual oil vs. the A280 index showed that this index helps discriminate between under-, over-, and optimally cooked seed. The myrosinase index helped identify undercooked samples but was unable to identify overcooked samples. The optimal A280 index values from this bench-scale study may not be the same in full-scale processes, but this approach can be adapted for tuning such processes.  相似文献

Research into bioactive food compounds (BFC) continues to evolve albeit with shared challenges among scientists in the fields of obesity and cancer treatment and prevention. Given the diversity of scientific disciplines involved in evaluating BFC, multidisciplinary conferences provide opportunities to update the state of the science and critically discuss conceptual and methodological challenges encountered in studying BFC in both preclinical and clinical trials. This overview is an introduction to presentations given at a conference sponsored by the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which convened a multidisciplinary group of researchers evaluating BFC in obesity and cancer prevention. Abstract

Fruit and vegetables (F&V) have been a cornerstone of healthy dietary recommendations; the 2015–2020?U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that F&V constitute one-half of the plate at each meal. F&V include a diverse collection of plant foods that vary in their energy, nutrient, and dietary bioactive contents. F&V have potential health-promoting effects beyond providing basic nutrition needs in humans, including their role in reducing inflammation and their potential preventive effects on various chronic disease states leading to decreases in years lost due to premature mortality and years lived with disability/morbidity. Current global intakes of F&V are well below recommendations. Given the importance of F&V for health, public policies that promote dietary interventions to help increase F&V intake are warranted. This externally commissioned expert comprehensive narrative, umbrella review summarizes up-to-date clinical and observational evidence on current intakes of F&V, discusses the available evidence on the potential health benefits of F&V, and offers implementation strategies to help ensure that public health messaging is reflective of current science. This review demonstrates that F&V provide benefits beyond helping to achieve basic nutrient requirements in humans. The scientific evidence for providing public health recommendations to increase F&V consumption for prevention of disease is strong. Current evidence suggests that F&V have the strongest effects in relation to prevention of CVDs, noting a nonlinear threshold effect of 800?g per day (i.e., about 5 servings a day). A growing body of clinical evidence (mostly small RCTs) demonstrates effects of specific F&V on certain chronic disease states; however, more research on the role of individual F&V for specific disease prevention strategies is still needed in many areas. Data from the systematic reviews and mostly observational studies cited in this report also support intake of certain types of F&V, particularly cruciferous vegetables, dark-green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, and dark-colored berries, which have superior effects on biomarkers, surrogate endpoints, and outcomes of chronic disease.  相似文献

In the present study, the Campylobacter isolates from retail poultry meat in Estonia were sero- and genotyped, and the antimicrobial susceptibility was determined. Forty-eight chicken (36 Estonian, 12 imported) and 22 turkey (imported) Campylobacter isolates from 580 raw broiler chicken (396 Estonian, 184 imported) and 30 turkey (imported) meat samples were studied. Of the isolates, 64 were C. jejuni, 4 C. coli, and 2 Campylobacter spp. Penner serotyping of 54 C. jejuni isolates revealed 11 different serotypes, and 22% of the isolates were nontypeable by the commercial antisera. The most common serotypes O:1,44; O:21, and O:55 accounted for 28%, 13%, and 13% of the isolates, respectively. Differences in serotype distribution were seen for chicken and turkey isolates. Genotypic characterization of all Campylobacter isolates (n=70) was performed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). SmaI and KpnI yielded 29 and 34 PFGE types, respectively, revealing high diversity among isolates. The serotype distribution did not show an association with the origin of the sample, but the majority of the isolates sharing a similar PFGE genotype originated from one country. High levels of resistance to ciprofloxacin (66%), nalidixic acid (66%), tetracycline (44%), ampicillin (34%), and erythromycin (14%) were detected among the 70 Campylobacter isolates. The simultaneous resistance to two or three antimicrobial agents occurred in 60% of the isolates. The Campylobacter isolates from turkey meat had higher resistance to ampicillin, ciprofloxacin, nalidixic acid, and tetracycline than those from chicken meat. None of the chicken isolates were resistant to gentamicin, and no turkey isolates to erythromycin or gentamicin.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Ephemeral media platforms allow users to send content in a format that automatically deletes the content after the recipient has accessed it – a phenomenon known as the ‘burn after reading’ principle. This study investigates whether awareness of the burn after read principle results in improved recognition memory for pictures. An experiment is designed where participants interact with pictures using a social media application. In Version A, participants are made aware of the persistent nature of the pictures, in Version B, participants are made aware of the ephemeral nature. Thereafter, participants are presented with the pictures again and must identify whether or not they previously encountered the exact same picture. Results showed that the burn after read principle does have a significant impact on accuracy in recognising pictures and the time spent watching them. Awareness of the burn after read principle resulted in better recognition memory for pictures and longer viewing times in the ephemeral application. This finding is in accordance with existing findings on the relationship between ephemerality and recognition memory.  相似文献
