This paper presents a general problem-solving method combining the principles of artificial intelligence and evolutionary computation. The problem-solving method is based on the computer language GENETICA, which stands for "Genetic Evolution of Novel Entities Through the Interpretation of Composite Abstractions." GENETICAs programming environment includes a computational system that evolves data abstractions, viewed as genotypes of data generation scenarios for a GENETICA program, with respect to either confirmation or optimization goals. A problem can be formulated as a GENETICA program, while the solution is represented as a data structure resulting from an evolved data generation scenario. This approach to problem solving offers: 1) generality, since it concerns virtually any problem stated in formal logic; 2) effectiveness, since formally expressed problem-solving knowledge can be incorporated in the problem statement; and 3) creativity, since unpredictable solutions can be obtained by evolved data structures. It is shown that domain specific languages, including genetic programming ones, that inherit GENETICAs features can be developed in GENETICA. The language G-CAD, specialized to problem solving in the domain of architectural design, is presented as a case study followed by experimental results.  相似文献

Horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands have proven their efficiency in treating wastewater and removing the pollutants of concern. Treatment efficiency depends on the wastewater residence time, which is a function of the hydraulic loading and the physical conditions of the constructed filter system, which can be described with effective parameters such as: hydraulic conductivity, porosity, dispersivity etc. Because spatial variability is often scale dependent, these effective parameters may be affected by the scale of the system being studied. In this paper the results of tracer experiments in constructed filters using saturated horizontal flow at three scales (small and medium lab scales and full-scale system) using the same filter media is reported. Light-weight aggregate (filter media termed Filtralite-P) was used at all scales. Increasing the scale was associated with increasing dispersivity, meanwhile hydraulic conductivity experienced dramatic reduction and variation by increasing the examined scale. Observed changes in the hydraulic parameters indicate that heterogeneity at different scales should be taken into account when the performance of LWA filters are evaluated from small-scale experiments.  相似文献

The high-gain substrate-superstrate configuration, which was proposed to increase the gain in printed circuit antennas, is applied to dielectric leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) to improve its frequency response. Analysis of a slitted suspended dielectric rectangular waveguide is carried out using a full-wave method. It is proved that the minimum values of the leakage constant of the leaky-wave mode for the suspended configuration are related to the high-gain resonance conditions. Moreover, it is found that the suspended LWA exhibits very small beamwidth variations in a large frequency bandwidth. It is well-known that inhomogeneous filled LWAs suffer from variation of beamwidth as the angle of maximum radiation is scanned with frequency. The proposed topology can be adjusted so that a flat response of the beamwidth can be obtained in a large frequency band, while maintaining the frequency-scanning behavior of the LWA.  相似文献

A novel fuzzy-based activation function for artificial neural networks is proposed. This approach provides easy hardware implementation and straightforward interpretability in the basis of IF-THEN rules. Backpropagation learning with the new activation function also has low computational complexity. Several application examples ( XOR gate, chaotic time-series prediction, channel equalization, and independent component analysis) support the potential of the proposed scheme.  相似文献

The clinical set-up tool integrates fast parameter selection and a user-friendly interface to help electrical muscle stimulators more efficiently treat patients with neurological injuries. A key challenge in increasing functional electrical stimulation systems' clinical acceptance is facilitating or automating parameter selection, optimization, and programming to make the underlying engineering transparent to the user. To this end, we present the clinical set-up tool (CST), a finite-state-machine-based controller that integrates accurate, automatic parameter optimization in an intuitive user interface. Unlike other approaches, we employ a numerical algorithm that uses real-life data and well-defined criteria to rapidly optimize parameter values.  相似文献

Healthy Aims is a 23- million, four-year project, funded under the EU's information society technology sixth framework program to develop intelligent medical implants and diagnostic systems (www.healthyaims.org). The project has 25 partners from 10 countries, including commercial, clinical, and research groups. This consortium represents a combination of disciplines to design and fabricate new medical devices and components as well as to test them in laboratories and subsequent clinical trials. Seamless video streaming over wireless links imposes strong demands on video codecs and the underlying network. It is not sufficient that only the video codec or only the radio adapts to changes in the wireless link quality; efforts should be applied in both layers, and - if possible - synchronized. Also, the disturbing effect of possible background traffic over the same shared medium has to be taken into account. In this article we present a communication architecture for video streaming over 802.11 that is capable of adapting to changes in the link quality and sharing of the wireless channel in various use scenarios. Experimental results show that substantial improvements in the quality of the video can be obtained by applying link adaptation and cross-layer signaling techniques.  相似文献

The adequacy of a model developed for the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2 was assessed. It was found that the results calculated based on this model correspond to experimentally obtained data with a high degree of accuracy (the squared coefficient of correlation was higher than 0.97).  相似文献
