In this paper, the stability of time delay processes that have uncertain delays is considered, and the maximum allowable perturbation which may occur in the time delays so as to maintain stability are determined. In particular, the characteristic equations of time delay systems are quasipolynomials, whose roots determine the stability of such systems, and the root-locus of these equations in specified desired regions is investigated. A numerical algorithm is presented for the calculation of the time delay stability margins in the space of time delays for such systems, and the size of the stability hyperspheres in this space is computed. To illustrate the procedure, the algorithm is applied to process control systems with uncertain delays and the allowable perturbations in the time delays of these systems are then computed. 相似文献

The emerging technique of DGT (diffusive gradients in thin films) is shown to be capable of performing new speciation measurements in situ in natural waters. In DGT, metals are bound to a resin layer after passing through a well-defined diffusion layer. Cd was measured in solutions containing glycine, EDTA, and fulvic (FA) and humic acids (HA) by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV), and DGT. DGT measured similar labile fractions to ASV, with detailed differences being consistent with a thicker diffusion layer allowing more dissociation of labile complexes and a slower diffusion of FA and HA complexes through the gel. When single measurements are made in complex solutions with DGT, precise quantification is impossible due to uncertainties concerning the distribution of species with different diffusion coefficients. A new procedure was proposed based on the advantage of DGT of being able to control the pore size of the diffusive gel layer. Small (inorganic) species diffuse freely through all gels but larger FA and HA (organic) complexes diffuse less freely in more constrained gels. When measurements were made on known solutions of Cu and FA or HA, it was possible to quantify the inorganic and organic species separately. They agreed well with predictions made using the WHAM speciation code. Multiple DGT units were also deployed in situ in a stream with high dissolved organic carbon (14.6 mg/L). The systematic differences between the devices with different gel compositions enabled determination, for the first time, of the in situ concentrations of both labile inorganic and organic species in natural water. A single DGT device with a constrained gel can be used to quantify inorganic species directly, providing absolute accuracy is not required. This ability of DGT to measure well-defined fractions of metals in situ using a simple device gives it considerable potential as a regulatory tool. Definition of the immune process that causes demyelination in multiple sclerosis is essential to determine the feasibility of Ag-directed immunotherapy. Using the nonhuman primate, Callithrix jacchus jacchus (common marmoset), we show that immunization with myelin basic protein and proteolipid protein determinants results in clinical disease with significant demyelination. Demyelination was associated with spreading to myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) determinants that generated anti-MOG serum Abs and Ig deposition in central nervous system white matter lesions. These data associate intermolecular "determinant spreading" with clinical autoimmune disease in primates and raise important issues for the pathogenesis and treatment of multiple sclerosis. 相似文献

In situ, High-Resolution Measurement of Dissolved Sulfide Using Diffusive Gradients in Thin Films with Computer-Imaging Densitometry 总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
The technique of diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) has been developed for the measurement of dissolved sulfide. Sulfide species from the sampled waters diffuse through a polyacrylamide hydrogel and then react with pale yellow AgI((s)), incorporated at the surface of a second gel, to form black Ag(2)S((s)). The accumulated sulfide can be measured with a conventional purge-and-trap method followed by colorimetry (methylene blue). This enables the dissolved-sulfide concentration to be calculated under suitable conditions. Alternatively, the color change in the accumulating gel can be used to measure sulfide. A conventional flat-bed scanner, allied to imaging software, provided a densitometric measurement that was quantitatively related to the amount of sulfide accumulated. DGT measurements on synthetic solutions accurately determined the sulfide concentration (95% recovery), thereby confirming the unobstructed diffusion of HS(-) through the gel. The accumulated mass was inversely proportional to the diffusion-layer thickness as theoretically predicted. With the selected geometry, the limit of detection of the densitometric procedure for a 24-h deployment was 0.13 μmol L(-)(1), and the maximum concentration measurable was 60 μmol L(-)(1). When used in anoxic lacustrine waters, DGT provided sensible concentrations. It was also used to measure depth profiles at submillimeter resolution in estuarine surface sediments. 相似文献

Acute hypovolaemia evokes abrupt, life-threatening hypotension and bradycardia. Hypotension can be evoked also by excitation of the caudal midline medulla (CMM). This study investigated the possible contribution of the CMM depressor area to hypotension evoked by acute hypovolaemia. Inactivation of the CMM, with either lignocaine or cobalt chloride did not alter resting arterial pressure. However lignocaine injections blocked the fall in arterial pressure, and cobalt chloride injections delayed the onset and significantly attenuated the size of hypovolaemic-evoked hypotension. These findings suggest that the CMM is a key region triggering hypotension after blood loss, and that the brain areas mediating cardiovascular response to challenges such as acute hypovolaemia are not the same areas that regulate resting arterial pressure. 相似文献

The effects of transdermal nicotine-assisted smoking cessation on digital perfusion and health-related quality of life were assessed in 10 chronic smokers. Components of digital blood flow were evaluated by digital temperature and laser Doppler fluxmetry before, during, and after a standardized cold challenge. Nutritional flow was measured by vital capillaroscopy; a quantitative perfusion profile was obtained by laser Doppler perfusion imaging. A battery of validated measures were used to evaluate health-related quality of life. The microvascular response of smokers was evaluated before smoking cessation and at 2 and 7 days after smoking cessation and was compared with the response of nonsmoking controls. Results demonstrated that a (1) cutaneous microvascular perfusion was lower in smokers than nonsmokers, (2) the acute administration of transdermal nicotine did not decrease cutaneous perfusion, (3) smoking cessation and transdermal nicotine normalized digital microvascular perfusion by 7 days, and (4) transdermal nicotine and smoking cessation did not negatively impact health-related quality of life. 相似文献
