Congenital contractural arachnodactyly

Five cases of congenital contractural arachnodactyly (CCA) are reported. Three belong to the one family. CCA has often been mistaken for Marfan's disease and arthrogrypois multiplex. Because CCA has a more favourable prognosis, it is very important to be able to recognize this syndrome.     

Bile acids: co-mutagenic activity in the Salmonella-mammalian-microsome mutagenicity test: brief communication

Of 30 bile acids tested, none was mutagenic in the Salmonella-mammalian-microsome test with indicator strains G46, TA1530, TA1535, TA1536, TA1537, TA1538, TA98, or TA100. However, when lithocholic acid or one of its conjugates was tested with suboptimal amounts of 2-aminoanthracene and phenobarbital-stimulated rat liver homogenate, enhancement and co-mutagenesis were observed if TA1538 was the indicator strain.     

Determination of silica in soaps and soap flakes. Perchloric acid method

Soap and soap flakes are decomposed by nitricperchloric acid, with the aid of a catalyst. Silica is then dehydrated, filtered off, and determined in the usual manner.     

气动雾化进样-MPT-AES法测定石油焦中的硅

用微波等离子体炬 (MPT)为激发光源 ,氩气为等离子体工作气体 ,用气动雾化进样 ,研究了微波等离子体炬原子发射光谱法 (MPT -AES)测定石油焦中硅的方法。详细考察了载气流量、工作气流量、氧屏蔽气流量、微波功率等实验参数对测定硅的影响 ,同时考察了共存元素对硅测定的影响。结果表明 :硅的检出限为 0 .0 40 μg/mL ,线性范围为 0 .2～ 6 μg/mL ,回收率在 95 .7%～ 10 3.8%之间 ,相对标准偏差 (n =6 ) <2 .9%。操作方法简便 ,自动化程度高 ,运转费用低 ,准确快速 ,是一种测定石油焦中硅的行之有效的分析方法     

THE PREVENTION OF DISINTEGRATION OF BLAST FURNACE LININGS1

Theories and observations on the causes of disintegration of fireclay refractories in blast furnaces are given and a process is developed for improving high iron clays for this use. The disintegration of refractories in blast furnace linings is initiated by alteration in the iron spots. Ferric oxide is reduced to ferrous oxide at 500°C and hastens the cracking of 2CO to CO₂+C₁ the carbon being retained by the lining. When Fe₂O₂ is converted to Fe₃O₄ the brick will not disintegrate.
