In this study, different molecular weight PEEK materials were used to determine the effect of spherulite size on fracture. Melt processing of the PEEK at different temperatures produced samples of different average spherulite size. A permanganic etching technique was used to reveal the spherulites. It was found that for low molecular weight 150P PEEK, the spherulite size increased with melt processing temperature; but, for the higher molecular weight 450G PEEK, the spherulite size remained approximately constant. Also, the average spherulite size was markedly lower for the material of higher molecular weight. The failure behaviour of these samples was studied using a compact tension test. It was found that the fracture toughness of PEEK varied with processing temperature. Also, the average spherulite size of a PEEK material had a profound influence on the fracture mechanism. 相似文献

Volumetric strain can be divided into two parts: strain due to bond distance change and strain due to vacancy sources and sinks. In this paper, efforts are focused on studying the atomic lattice strain due to a vacancy in an FCC metal lattice with molecular dynamics simulation (MDS). The result has been compared with that from a continuum mechanics method. It is shown that using a continuum mechanics approach yields constitutive results similar to the ones obtained based purely on molecular dynamics considerations. 相似文献

The effect of an uniform magnetic field with a flux density up to 1 T and different configurations relative to the electrode surface on the electrocrystallization of Fe on polycrystalline Au(1 1 1) from acidic sulphate electrolyte has been investigated. It was found, irrespective of the applied parameters, that the deposition proceeds through successive nucleation and growth steps. The first one related to 2D growth was followed by a second nucleation and 3D diffusion controlled growth. At potential of −1500 and −1550 mVMSE nucleation proceeds via a progressive mode, while at −1650 mVMSE it follows an instantaneous mode. A strong influence of the parallel-to-electrode magnetic field on the nucleation processes was found for the progressive mode, which leads to the increase of the growth rate and as a consequence to retardation of the nucleation rate of the 3D step. Additionally, in this configuration at a sufficiently high magnetic flux density a third nucleation step could be observed (3D), which was found to be also affected by a magnetic field. No effect of a perpendicular-to-electrode magnetic field on the nucleation has been observed. The effects of a magnetic field on the nucleation and growth processes are discussed with respect to the magnetohydrodynamic effect (MHD) and confirmed by rotating disc electrode (RDE) experiments. 相似文献

Chebyshev pseudospectral solutions of the biharmonic equation governing two-dimensional Stokes flow within a driven cavity converge poorly in the presence of corner singularities. Subtracting the strongest corner singularity greatly improves the rate of convergence. Compared to the usual stream function/ vorticity formulation, the single fourth-order equation for stream function used here has half the number of coefficients for equivalent spatial resolution and uses a simpler treatment of the boundary conditions. MR imaging of the knee joints of the mouse at 2.35 T produces an in-plane resolution of 35 x 70 microns and a slice thickness of 600 microns from the sagittal and coronal planes, in less than 60 min. In normal, live DBA mice, which have no known pathology, the images clearly resolve many joint structures, such as the cruciate ligaments, menisci, and articulating surfaces of the femur and tibia. Gross pathological changes were identified first in excised knees from cadaver mice of the STR/ORT strain. Males of this strain spontaneously exhibit rapid joint degeneration with increasing age compared to females, in which much milder symptoms develop more slowly. Thickening of the patellar tendon, displacement of the patella, deformity, and sclerosis were clearly distinguishable in males compared with females older than 7 mo of age. The same degenerative features were evident in MR images of the knees of the live male but not female STR/ORT mice of this age, indicating that it would be possible to monitor longitudinally by MR imaging progressive development of joint changes in this osteoarthritic model. 相似文献
