This paper presents measurements of several properties of Nd:YAlO3 useful in the design of laser devices. Values for the gains, cross sections, and saturation parameter of the4F_{3/2} rightarrow 4I_{11/2} transitions are presented for principal axis polarizations. Thermal focal lengths, spherical aberration, and astigmatism forA-, B- , andC -axis rodsfrac{1}{4} in in diameter and 3 in long are shown as a function of input power. Pumping efficiencies with krypton and xenon lamps are compared for Nd:YAG, Nd:Cr:YAlO3 , and Nd: YAlO3 both in the CW and flash-pumped modes. Turbo codes with long frame lengths are usually constructed using a randomly chosen interleaver. Statistically, this guarantees excellent bit-error rate (BER) performance but also generates a certain number of low weight codewords, resulting in the appearance of an error floor in the BER curve. Several methods, including using an outer code, have been proposed to improve the error floor region of the BER curve. We study the effect of an outer BCH code on the frame-error rate (FER) of turbo codes. We show that additional coding gain is possible not only in the error floor region but also in the waterfall region. Also, the outer code improves the iterative APP decoder by providing a stopping criterion and alleviating convergence problems. With this method, we obtain codes whose performance is within 0.6 dB of the sphere packing bound at an FER of 10-6 相似文献

RAD52 and RAD9 are required for the repair of double-strand breaks (DSBs) induced by physical and chemical DNA-damaging agents in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Analysis of EcoRI endonuclease expression in vivo revealed that, in contrast to DSBs containing damaged or modified termini, chromosomal DSBs retaining complementary ends could be repaired in rad52 mutants and in G1-phase Rad+ cells. Continuous EcoRI-induced scission of chromosomal DNA blocked the growth of rad52 mutants, with most cells arrested in G2 phase. Surprisingly, rad52 mutants were not more sensitive to EcoRI-induced cell killing than wild-type strains. In contrast, endonuclease expression was lethal in cells deficient in Ku-mediated end joining. Checkpoint-defective rad9 mutants did not arrest cell cycling and lost viability rapidly when EcoRI was expressed. Synthesis of the endonuclease produced extensive breakage of nuclear DNA and stimulated interchromosomal recombination. These results and those of additional experiments indicate that cohesive ended DSBs in chromosomal DNA can be accurately repaired by RAD52-mediated recombination and by recombination-independent complementary end joining in yeast cells. 相似文献

We consider a Markovian multiserver queueing model with time dependent parameters where waiting customers may abandon and subsequently retry. We provide simple fluid and diffusion approximations to estimate the mean, variance, and density for both the queue length and virtual waiting time processes arising in this model. These approximations, which are generated by numerically integrating only 7 ordinary differential equations, are justified by limit theorems where the arrival rate and number of servers grow large. An accurate and highly sensitive dry ashing/graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) procedure has been developed for the measurement of lead in green vegetables. The accuracy of the method was established by analysis of standard reference materials and confirmed by isotope dilution using an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). The limit of detection (wet weight) of the technique is 1-3 micrograms/kg with relative standard deviations ranging from 6% for a sample of kale containing 500 micrograms/kg to 20% for cabbage containing 3.0 micrograms/kg. 相似文献

This study tested arguments in the largely anecdotal debate over the existence of Asian values in Asian journalism. News stories uploaded to 10 Asian on-line newspapers were content analyzed for the prevalence of "harmony" and "supportiveness," which the literature suggests as key Asian values. The findings show that the journalistic emphasis on Asian values is concentrated in the Southeast Asia subregion and tracks restrictions on press freedom. 相似文献

Myosin from cardiac muscle consists of two heavy chains and two pairs of light chain. Regulatory myosin light chain (RMLC) is phosphorylated by a Ca2+ and calmodulin dependent myosin light chain kinase. The impact of experimental myocardial infarction on cardiac RMLC was studied. The left anterior descending coronary artery of rabbits was ligated. Three, 7 and 14 days later the animals were euthanized, sections of the heart were frozen in liquid nitrogen and later subjected to 2-dimensional electrophoresis. Isoelectric focusing was carried out at a pH range of 4.5-5.4. Reproducible patterns of protein separation showed four spots with proteins of phosphorylatable regulatory light chains shifted to a more negative pH as compared to essential light chain. We investigated changes in phosphorylation of RMLC in infarcted heart muscle. As compared to sham operated animals, a decline in phosphorylation of RMLC was present in both infarcted and non-infarcted portions of the left ventricle; the latter was significant 7 days following the onset of ischemia. In contrast, the decline in percent phosphorylation in the infarcted area was not significant. The amount of RMLC decreased significantly in the infarcted portion. A highly significant reduction in the percent of viable cardiomyocytes accompanied the decline in phosphorylation. There was a significant correlation of RMLC following administration of isoproterenol, 7 and 14 days following onset of ischemia. Only faint traces of essential atrial myosin light chain (ALC-1) were present in the non-infarcted portion of the left ventricle. No correlation was found between percent phosphorylation and the amount of RMLC (density) following infusion of saline or isoproterenol. Isoproterenol significantly increased percent phosphorylation without altering the amount of RMLC protein. We conclude that myocardial infarction profoundly affects regulatory myosin light chain phosphorylation in the infarcted and non-infarcted areas of the myocardium and that RMLC plays a significant part in myocardial contractility. 相似文献

Acute lung allograft rejection is believed to be initiated by passenger leukocytes, such as alveolar macrophages (AM), in the donor organ, which release TNF-alpha, and present alloantigens to host lymphocytes, to up-regulated Th1 cellular and humoral immunity. However, the role of donor AM in local TNF-alpha synthesis, and their ability to induce local Th1 cellular and humoral immunity have not been evaluated. By depleting Brown Norway (BN, RT1n) rat lung allografts of AM before transplantation into Lewis rat (LEW, RT1(1)) recipients, the current study determined the role of donor AM in including the production of TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma (Th1 cytokine), IL-4 (Th2 cytokine), IgG subtypes, and rejection pathology in the allograft. The data show that compared with untreated BN allografts, pretransplant depletion of donor lung AM resulted in significantly less TNF-alpha, and IFN-gamma production in allograft bronchoalveolar lavage fluid with variable effects on local IL-4 production. Depletion of AM in the donor lung before transplantation affected the local production of several IgG subclasses. However, pretransplant depletion of donor AM had no effect on the development of the pathology of severe acute rejection. These data show that donor AM have a central role in the local synthesis of TNF-alpha and induce the production of IFN-gamma and IgG subtypes, locally, during acute lung allograft rejection. However, depletion of AM before transplantation does not prevent the development of severe acute rejection in BN rat lungs, transplanted into LEW recipients. 相似文献
