Solutions of alkali metal thiocyanates in liquid copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide provide a convenient medium for measuring conductivities, viscosities and transport numbers in polymer electrolytes by classical methods. The high value of the anion transport number (typically ca. 0.95) is noteworthy. A model, which emphasises the importance of intramolecular solvation of cations, the effects of ion pairing and redissociation, and the crosslinking action of anions at high salt concentrations, accounts satisfactorily for the properties of these liquid systems.  相似文献

In a retrospective study the outcome of patients treated by the Kapandji-Sauvé procedure was evaluated. In the period from 1989 to 1993, 18 patients were operated. The arthrodesis of the distal radioulnar joint was performed by a dorsoulnar incision using one screw. A 2 cm long segment of the ulna was resected. Indications for Kapandji-Sauvé procedures were in 12 cases deformities subsequent to wrist fractures, in three cases osteoarthrosis of the distal radioulnar joint, in two cases Madelung's deformity and in one case Kienb?ck's disease. The mean follow-up time was 5.1 years (range 3 to 7 years). There was one case of reossification, which required reoperation. No other complications were seen. An excellent result was obtained in seven patients, a good result in nine patients, one patient showed satisfactory and one poor results. Grip strength was normal in six cases, reduced up to 20% in seven cases and reduced up to 50% in five cases. 13 patients returned to their previous occupation. 12 patients showed a range of pronation-supination of more than 150 degrees. There was no correlation between X-ray findings and clinical outcome in patients.  相似文献

Telehealth is the use of electronic information and communication technology to deliver health and medical information and services over large and small distances. Broadband wireless services available today, along with more powerful and convenient handheld devices, will enable a transformational change in health management and healthcare with the introduction of real-time monitoring and timely responses to a wide array of patient needs. Further, a network of low-cost sensors and wireless systems help in creating constantly vigilant and pervasive monitoring capability at home and at work. This paper addresses recent efforts in this growing field, including standards, system architectures, propagation models, and lower layer protocols for body area networks. The paper also suggests the use of cooperative transmission-based strategies for such wireless topologies.  相似文献

In this paper, a high-speed image sensor with very high sensitivity is developed. The high sensitivity is achieved by introduction of backside illumination and charge-carrier multiplication (CCM). The high frame rate is guaranteed by installing the in situ storage image sensor (ISIS) structure on the front side. A test sensor of the BSI-ISIS has been developed and evaluated. It is shown that an image with a very low signal level embedded under the noise floor is recognizable by activating the CCM.  相似文献

Statistical channel models based on BER performance are presented for a frequency- and time-selective vehicle-to-vehicle wireless communications link in an expressway environment in Atlanta, Georgia, where both vehicles traveled in the same direction. The models are developed from measurements taken using the direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technique at 2.45GHz. A collection of tapped delay line models, referred to as a “partitioned” model in the paper, is developed to attempt to capture the extremes of BER performance of the recorded channel. Overall and partition models are compared to the recorded channel in terms of the BER statistics obtained when the channels are inserted in a dedicated short range radio (DSRC) standard simulation system. The quality of the match between synthesized and recorded channel BER statistics is analyzed with respect to type of modulation (fixed or adaptive), the frame length, and the length of the interval over which the BER was calculated. Guillermo Acosta was born in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1962. He is a Ph.D. Candidate and a graduate research assistant in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, Georgia. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering with Honors and Master of Engineering, both in Electrical Engineering, from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1985 and 1987, respectively. He also obtained a Master of Business Administration with Honors from the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM), Mexico City, Mexico, in 1996. Mr. Acosta has held technical and managerial positions in the recording, radio, and TV industries and in the Communications Ministry of Mexico. He has been an adjunct instructor in Electrical Engineering in the Instituto Tecnologico y Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico (ITESM-CEM) and the Universidad Iberoamericana. He is member of the IEEE, INCE, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu. Mary Ann Ingram received the B.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1983 and 1989, respectively. From 1983 to 1986, she was a Research Engineer with the Georgia Tech Research Institute in Atlanta, performing studies on radar electronic countermeasure (ECM) systems. In 1986, she became a graduate research assistant with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where in 1989, she became a Faculty Member and is currently Professor. Her early research areas were optical communications and radar systems. In 1997, she established the Smart Antenna Research Laboratory (SARL), which emphasizes the application of multiple antennas to wireless communication systems. The SARL performs system analysis and design, channel measurement, and prototyping, relating to a wide range of wireless applications, including wireless local area network (WLAN) and satellite communications, with focus on the lower layers of communication networks. A global view of power system's frequency behavior opens up a new window for analyzing system's dynamics. With the aid of global positioning system, measurements from different locations would have synchronous time; therefore a system-wide observation and analysis would be possible. As part of the US-wide power frequency monitoring network project this paper focus on simulation study results of power frequency dynamics of the Eastern U.S. system. The study assesses the frequency measurement accuracy needed to observe frequency dynamics from events such as remote generation drops. Electromechanical-wave propagation phenomena during system disturbances have been observed. The speeds of electromechanical-wave propagation in different areas of the U.S. systems were estimated and their characteristics were discussed.  相似文献

A vertical hot electron transistor incorporating a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) base has been fabricated in the GaAs-AlGaAs materials system. The difficulties caused by the need to form selective ohmic contacts to the different conducting layers have been overcome using a combination of in situ focused ion beam (FIB) isolation and molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) regrowth. This has allowed a high yield of working devices to be achieved with a typical common emitter current gain of hFE=6 at low temperatures  相似文献
