This paper presents a case study on the optimization of process integration investments in a pulp mill considering uncertainties in future electricity and biofuel prices and CO2 emissions charges. The work follows the methodology described in Svensson et al. [Svensson, E., Berntsson, T., Strömberg, A.-B., Patriksson, M., 2008b. An optimization methodology for identifying robust process integration investments under uncertainty. Energy Policy, in press, doi:10.1016/j.enpol.2008.10.023] where a scenario-based approach is proposed for the modelling of uncertainties. The results show that the proposed methodology provides a way to handle the time dependence and the uncertainties of the parameters. For the analyzed case, a robust solution is found which turns out to be a combination of two opposing investment strategies. The difference between short-term and strategic views for the investment decision is analyzed and it is found that uncertainties are increasingly important to account for as a more strategic view is employed. Furthermore, the results imply that the obvious effect of policy instruments aimed at decreasing CO2 emissions is, in applications like this, an increased profitability for all energy efficiency investments, and not as much a shift between different alternatives.  相似文献

A New Multiple Model Filter With Switch Time Conditions   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The interacting multiple model filter has long been the method of choice for performing target tracking using multiple motion models. The filter finds a suboptimal solution to a problem which has the implicit assumption that immediate model shifts have the highest probability. When the sampling rate of the underlying continuous process is high compared to the target dynamics, this is not a reasonable assumption. Instead, changes in dynamics persist for some time. In this paper we propose an alternative switching model, which forces the dynamic models to persist for at least a model-specific time. The model is semi-Markov in nature, with a sojourn time probability mass function which is zero for a model-specific number of time steps, and then follows a geometrical distribution. Through this assumption a less complex problem in terms of model hypotheses arises, and to that problem we derive a state estimation algorithm that is close to optimal when the model assumptions are valid. Three other semi-Markov-based multiple-model filters are discussed and compared to in a qualitative sense. We also derive a new aircraft motion model for start and termination of turns. Finally, the proposed filter is evaluated on a benchmark scenario for tracking, and the results show a performance increase compared to the interacting multiple model (IMM) filter for the trajectories considered.  相似文献

Bracon hebetor is a larval ectoparasitoid that utilizes several pests belonging to the family Pyralidae (Lepidoptera) as hosts. In the present study, we analyzed the kairomonal response of this wasp to the male-produced sex pheromone of a host, the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella, an economically important pest of honeybees, Apis mellifera. Coupled gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) revealed three compounds in headspace collections from male G. mellonella that elicited responses from B. hebetor antennae: decanal and the previously identified sex pheromone components, nonanal and undecanal. Y-tube olfactometer tests that used naïve, mated wasps showed that females, but not males, were highly attracted to (a) male G. mellonella headspace samples, (b) two synthetic blends of nonanal and undecanal (in ratios matching that found in male moth samples), and (c) the two aldehydes tested individually. Further, female wasps did not discriminate between a blend of aldehydes and male G. mellonella headspace. In dose-response trials that used octanal, nonanal, decanal, and undecanal, no difference in EAG responses of the two sexes was observed, except for undecanal at the second highest dose, for which female antennae showed significantly larger responses than did male antennae. When the two binary blends were tested at different doses, female wasps were significantly attracted to the two highest doses (1 µg and 10 µg), but not to the lowest dose (100 ng). Our results show that females of this economically important parasitoid utilize the male-produced sex pheromone of a host as an indirect cue to guide them to potential oviposition sites.  相似文献

The status of the diagnostic developments for the quasistationary operable stellarator Wendelstein 7-X (maximum pulse length of 30 min at 10 MW ECRH heating at 140 GHz) will be reported on. Recently, bayesian probability theory has been used at a number of experiments to fold uncertainties and interdependencies in the diagnostic data and forward models, together with prior knowledge of the state of the plasma, to increase accuracy of inferred physics variables. A new probabilistic framework, MINERVA, based on bayesian graphical models, has been used at JET and W7-AS to yield predictions of internal magnetic structure. A feature of the framework is the bayesian inversion for poloidal magnetic flux without the need for an explicit equilibrium assumption. Building on this, we discuss results from a new project to develop bayesian inversion tools that aim to (1) distinguish between competing equilibrium theories, which capture different physics, using the MAST spherical tokamak, and (2) test the predictions of MHD theory, particularly mode structure, using the H-1 Heliac. Specifically, we report on correction of the motional Stark effect, pickup coils, flux-loop constrained bayesian inferred equilibrium for varying toroidal flux.  相似文献

Classical continuum mechanics is used extensively to predict the properties of nanoscale materials such as graphene. The bending rigidity, κ, is an important parameter that is used, for example, to predict the performance of graphene nanoelectromechanical devices and also ripple formation. Despite its importance, there is a large spread in the theoretical predictions of κ for few-layer graphene. We have used the snap-through behavior of convex buckled graphene membranes under the application of electrostatic pressure to determine experimentally values of κ for double-layer graphene membranes. We demonstrate how to prepare convex-buckled suspended graphene ribbons and fully clamped suspended membranes and show how the determination of the curvature of the membranes and the critical snap-through voltage, using AFM, allows us to extract κ. The bending rigidity of bilayer graphene membranes under ambient conditions was determined to be 35.5?15.0 +20.0 eV. Monolayers are shown to have significantly lower κ than bilayers.  相似文献

This paper presents the design and implementation of a low power, highly linear, wideband RF front-end in 90 nm CMOS. The architecture consists of an inverter-like common gate low noise amplifier followed by a passive ring mixer. The proposed architecture achieves a high linearity in a wide band (0.5–6 GHz) at very low power. Therefore, it is a suitable choice for software defined radio (SDR) receivers. The chip measurement results indicate that the inverter-like common gate input stage has a broadband input match achieving S11 below −8.8 dB up to 6 GHz. The measured single sideband noise figure at an LO frequency of 3 GHz and an IF of 10 MHz is 6.25 dB. The front-end achieves a voltage conversion gain of 4.5 dB at 1 GHz with 3 dB bandwidth of more than 6 GHz. The measured input referred 1 dB compression point is +1.5 dBm while the IIP3 is +11.73 dBm and the IIP2 is +26.23 dBm respectively at an LO frequency of 2 GHz. The RF front-end consumes 6.2 mW from a 1.1 V supply with an active chip area of 0.0856 mm2.  相似文献

In adult populations, elevated blood pressure is related to the development of stroke, renal disease, and occlusive atherosclerosis. The significance of blood pressure levels in childhood, unless extremely elevated, has not been related to disease outcomes. In a study carried out in Muscatine, Iowa, the risk of high blood pressure in young adult life was evaluated based on the observations of blood pressure and other factors made during the school-aged years. Subjects, 2445 in number, were first observed at ages 7 through 18 years and again between 20 and 30 years. During childhood, measurements of blood pressure, height, and weight were made on alternate years. At adult ages, the same measurements were again made and a health questionnaire was administered. Adult blood pressure was correlated with childhood blood pressure, body size, and change in ponderosity from childhood to adult life. Adult ponderosity was related to childhood ponderosity, and those who were most obese as adults showed the greatest increase in weight from their childhood years. These observations suggest that strategies to prevent the acquisition of excess ponderosity during childhood may be useful in preventing adult hypertension.  相似文献

Myotonic dystrophy (DM) is associated with expansion of CTG repeats in the 3'-untranslated region of the myotonin protein kinase (DMPK) gene. The molecular mechanism whereby expansion of the (CUG)n repeats in the 3'-untranslated region of DMPK gene induces DM is unknown. We previously isolated a protein with specific binding to CUG repeat sequences (CUG-BP/hNab50) that possibly plays a role in mRNA processing and/or transport. Here we present evidence that the phosphorylation status and intracellular distribution of the RNA CUG-binding protein, identical to hNab50 protein (CUG-BP/hNab50), are altered in homozygous DM patient and that CUG-BP/hNab50 is a substrate for DMPK both in vivo and in vitro. Data from two biological systems with reduced levels of DMPK, homozygous DM patient and DMPK knockout mice, show that DMPK regulates both phosphorylation and intracellular localization of the CUG-BP/hNab50 protein. Decreased levels of DMPK observed in DM patients and DMPK knockout mice led to the elevation of the hypophosphorylated form of CUG-BP/hNab50. Nuclear concentration of the hypophosphorylated CUG-BP/hNab50 isoform is increased in DMPK knockout mice and in homozygous DM patient. DMPK also interacts with and phosphorylates CUG-BP/hNab50 protein in vitro. DMPK-mediated phosphorylation of CUG-BP/hNab50 results in dramatic reduction of the CUG-BP2, hypophosphorylated isoform, accumulation of which was observed in the nuclei of DMPK knockout mice. These data suggest a feedback mechanism whereby decreased levels of DMPK could alter phosphorylation status of CUG-BP/hNab50, thus facilitating nuclear localization of CUG-BP/hNab50. Our results suggest that DM pathophysiology could be, in part, a result of sequestration of CUG-BP/hNab50 and, in part, of lowered DMPK levels, which, in turn, affect processing and transport of specific subclass of mRNAs.  相似文献
