This article introduces a new tool to measure the pressure that is under pressure garments. The Iscan (Tekscan, Inc.) system uses a patented ultra-thin (0.007 inch) sensor with multiple sensing locations that sample continuously at 100 times per second. It is noninvasive, convenient, and quick. The study had two parts. First, we established the validity and reliability of the device. Next, garment/scar interface pressures were measured on new garments with use of the Iscan system. Four garment types were studied, with 10 measurements made in each group: Isotoner gloves (Smith & Nephew Roylan, Inc.); custom-fit pressure gloves; Tubigrip forearm sleeves (Seton Health Care Group); and custom-fit pressure forearm sleeves. Mean garment/scar interface pressures were 18 +/- 2 mm Hg for the Isotoner glove, 34 +/- 5 mm Hg for the custom-fit pressure glove, 20 +/- 7 mm Hg for the Tubigrip sleeve, and 35 +/- 6 mm Hg for the custom-fit sleeve. We concluded that the Iscan system can be used to measure pressure under pressure garments accurately and reliably, and that custom-fit hand and forearm garments provide more pressure than Isotoner gloves or Tubigrip sleeves.  相似文献

A method that calculates the frequency of the lowest order mode in a cylindrical isotropic dielectric is extended to higher order modes in a anisotropic crystal. Four different axial match equations are derived depending on whether they are quasi TE or quasi TM, and have an odd or even axial mode number. A general radial match equation is also derived. Combining it with the relevant axial equation forms a set of two coupled transcendental equations that can be solved numerically. The theory is confirmed by room temperature measurements in two sapphire crystals of different aspect ratios, and in cryogenic sapphire resonators used in high stability fixed and tunable oscillators. Higher heating values (HHVs) of fatty acids (C4–C18) were measured and correlated using linear least square regression analysis. Equations were developed for the estimation of the HHVs of saturated fatty acids from their molecular weight (Mw), density (DN) and carbon number (CN). These equations are HHV = 0.0518 Mw + 29.76, HHV = −93.4 DN + 122.67 and HHV = 0.7271 CN + 31.419 with R2 values of 0.9895, 0.9798, and 0.9895, respectively. The correlations may be used for HHV estimation of mixtures of fatty acids developed from vegetable oils.  相似文献

Absence of fibrillin 2 (Fbn2), a non-collagenous bone protein, causes a connective tissue disorder called congenital contractural arachnodactyly (CCA) and has been associated with decreased bone mineral density. Nanoindentation and Raman microspectroscopy have been used to compare the mechanical and chemical properties of cortical bone from femora of Fbn2−/− deficient mice and their wild-type controls (Fbn2+/+). It was found that Fbn2−/− bones have significantly lower hardness and elastic modulus compared to Fbn2+/+ bones, especially in the mid-cortical section. The Raman analysis showed little difference with genotype except for a decrease in type-B carbonate substitution in the endosteal region of Fbn2−/− bones. The results indicate that Fbn2 plays a direct role in determining the mechanical properties of bone.  相似文献

In this work, we co‐formulated an oil‐borne copper naphthenate/permethrin wood preservative system with synthetic polymer‐based fire‐retardant additives prior to the impregnation of Pinus radiata sapwood. We evaluated what effect, if any, the preservative had upon the fire performance properties of the fire retardants and whether the fire retardants impacted on the fungicidal and termiticidal efficacy of the preservative. The fire retardants included halogenated and phosphorus‐based systems. A mass loss calorimeter, in conjunction with a thermopile, was used to measure the time to ignition and the peak heat release rate (PHRR) from which the fire performance index (FPI) was determined. The preservative properties were evaluated using termite and soil‐block decay bioassays. In summary, we found that the rate of fire growth was reduced when the fire retardants were used in combination with the wood preservative. We also found that the PHRR was a better determinant of fire performance than the FPI. The performance of the wood preservative was enhanced against fungal decay and termite attack when used in combination with the fire retardants. The fire retardants also demonstrated some wood preservative properties of their own. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
