This paper investigates and compares the culture found in a construction company with that found in two manufacturing companies because large differences in culture might reduce the potential for the construction sector to adopt management tools developed in the manufacturing sector. For the comparisons to be valid, the culture within the physical production process was observed. The results were obtained by use of questionnaires and intensive interviews with individual members of staff using a U.K. government sponsored questionnaire. A vertical section of each company was sampled such that equivalent organizational levels could be directly compared. The main findings are that the culture existing in construction has significant differences to that found within the manufacturing industries. It will not be possible to transfer management tools from one industrial sector to the other without substantial redesign. The culture within construction was found to be a “project culture” in comparison to manufacturing, which was found to be a “company culture.”  相似文献

Galactose-targeted delivery of macromolecules and drug conjugates to asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) positive cells has been widely documented in animals, although targeting in humans has never been demonstrated. In this study we report the pharmacokinetics and imaging determined in the first patient enrolled in a phase I clinical study of the poly[N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide] copolymer bearing doxorubicin and galactosamine, known as PK2. Gradient high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) evaluation of plasma and urine has been combined with 123I-based imaging to show biphasic clearance of the drug from the plasma (half-lives of 78+/-1 and 990+/-15), and approximately 30% delivery of the drug to the hepatic region, as determined by planar whole body imaging at 24 h. This patient has a multifocal hepatoma, and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) analysis showed a ratio of tumour tissue to normal liver uptake of approximately 1:3, at 24 h. On the basis of this patient, effective hepatic targeting can be achieved following an intravenous dose of 20 mg/m2 doxorubicin as PK2, however the therapeutic usefulness of this targeted drug has yet to be established.  相似文献

Since nanocrystalline WC–Co powder was produced over a decade ago, the sintering of nanocrystalline powders remains a technological challenge. The goal of sintering nanocrystalline powders is not only to achieve full densification but also to retain nanocrystalline grain sizes. This is difficult because of rapid grain growth at high temperatures. Previous studies on the sintering of nanocrystalline WC–Co have shown that grains grow rapidly during the early stage of sintering. But there are few studies on the mechanisms of grain growth and densification during this stage. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on grain growth and densification of nanocrystalline WC–Co powders during heat-up at equilibrium solid-state temperatures. The results have shown that nanocrystalline WC grains grow rapidly during this period concurrently with rapid densification. The rapid densification and grain growth are partially attributed to the surface energy anisotropy of tungsten carbide. The effects of vanadium carbide on grain growth at solid state during heat-up are also discussed.  相似文献

Impotence is a common symptom which can cause considerable distress to both the sufferer and his partner. The use of pharmacotherapy to improve erectile function will continue to increase as safe and effective drugs are developed. However, restoring erectile function should not be the only treatment objective. It is also essential to address personal and emotional factors in the sufferer, conflicts in his relationship with his partner, and sexual problems in his partner, all of which may be instrumental in causing or maintaining the presenting impotence. We advocate a combined approach with appropriate medical treatment and sex and couple therapy.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of normal aging and Alzheimer's disease on listeners' ability to recognize gated spoken words. Groups of healthy young adults, healthy older adults, and adults with Alzheimer's disease were presented isolated gated spoken words. Theoretical predictions of the Cohort model of spoken word recognition (Marslen-Wilson, 1984) were tested, employing both between-group and within-group comparisons. The findings for the young adults supported the Cohort model's predictions. The findings for the older adult groups revealed different effects for age and disease. These results are interpreted in relation to the theoretical predictions, the findings of previous gating studies, and differentiating age from disease-related changes in spoken word recognition.  相似文献

The practical development and implementation of rapid thermal processes will significantly influence the semiconductor fabrication industry. With the capability to perform heat cycles quickly and with low thermal budgets, rapid thermal processors have the potential to supplant conventional thermal systems in the years to come. Currently, rapid thermal processors are unable to match the thermal process uniformity produced in conventional convective-based systems. Using a thermal model to approximate the heating characteristics of silicon wafers, it is possible to determine the effects of time-varying intensity profiles on a wafer during a rapid thermal process. Interpretation of this model shows idealized intensity profiles can maintain thermal uniformity at steady-state temperatures. During thermal transients a dynamic continuously changing profile is required to maintain thermal uniformity. As a predictive tool, this analysis can be used to determine and evaluate dynamic uniformity producing intensity profiles before thermal transients occur within a process. This approach can reduce the accumulation of error during high temperature steps not only by providing thermal uniformity at steady states, but by reducing the initial nonuniformities produced by transitions. This paper will review the wafer model, show the results of an idealized profile for steady-state and transient temperatures, and explain the dynamic profiles required for continuous uniformity  相似文献

To define metal lines for composite metal structures for integrated circuits with small pitches (<2 μm), the etch selectivity and dimensional control must be improved from existing values of ~1.5:1 and >0.1 μm/line, respectively, without leaving metallic residue and without undercutting the masking layer. These goals have been achieved for a layered metal structure of Ti-W/Al-Cu(2%)/Ti-W with an Applied Materials AME 8330 batch system after examining process parameter spaces defined by the following: (i) reactor pressure, (ii) dc bias voltage, and (iii) gas composition for these two films. The selectivity between Al-Cu(2%) and photoresist increases with decreasing dc bias voltage and increasing Cl2 content of Cl2/BCl3/CHF3 gas mixtures. In comparison, the selectivity between Ti-W and photoresist increases only with increasing CF4 content of CF4/Cl2 gas mixtures; changes in the other variables examined in this work with Ti-W have no significant effect on selectivity  相似文献

The polychaete worm Ctenodrilus serratus was surveyed for the presence of HOM/HOX and engrailed-type homeobox genes using PCR with degenerate primers. Sixteen unique homeobox fragments were found in surveys of genomic and cDNA with three different primer sets. For three fragments, RACE was employed to obtain additional homeobox sequence and the 3' flanking region. Nine HOM/HOX-type fragments were identified, including putative representatives of the Hox1/lab, Hox2/pb, Hox3, Hox4/Dfd, and Antp/Lox5 cognate groups. Two additional Antp-like fragments could not be assigned specific orthology. Presence of an ortholog of leech Lox2 in addition to a Ubx/abdA-like gene suggests that independent duplications of a single precursor occurred in the annelid and arthropod lineages. No representative of the Hox9/AbdB group was identified. Our results are consistent with a hypothesis of a single HOM/HOX cluster in Ctenodrilus as extensive as that seen in strongly tagmatized arthropods, suggesting that the primitive role of these genes even in overtly metameric animals was something other than specification of overt segmental differentiation. The primers used also detected representatives of six other homeobox classes or families: Xlox (XlHbox8/HTr-A2), Ovx (Chox7), caudal, Prh (proline-rich homeobox), NEC (ceh-9/Tghbox5), and engrailed.  相似文献
