Modularity and self-healing are two interesting properties that could help to design more flexible conveyors of micro-objects. In the Smart Blocks project, we propose to design a 2D modular and self-reconfigurable robot composed of centimeter-scale sliding blocks that embed their own actuators and control electronics. This article presents a proof-of-concept of the linkage and of the traveling system as well as an algorithm able to reconfigure a set of blocks from a spatial configuration to another one. Prototype blocks have been realized using electro-permanent magnets which show a good motion speed while saving power consumption during the linkage. Our reconfiguration algorithm is implemented in a simulator software showing in real-time the reconfiguration of the robot.  相似文献

In this paper, a high-speed image sensor with very high sensitivity is developed. The high sensitivity is achieved by introduction of backside illumination and charge-carrier multiplication (CCM). The high frame rate is guaranteed by installing the in situ storage image sensor (ISIS) structure on the front side. A test sensor of the BSI-ISIS has been developed and evaluated. It is shown that an image with a very low signal level embedded under the noise floor is recognizable by activating the CCM.  相似文献

Broadband radio-over-fiber networks are raising great interest for intrabuilding distribution and signal processing of ultrawide-band (UWB) signals. In this paper, a unique optical system based on an external modulator biased either in linear or nonlinear regime has been used to realize both distribution of multiband orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MB-OFDM) UWB signal and all-optical frequency upconversion of UWB-OFDM subband. The impact of the nonlinearity of the optical link on the MB-OFDM signal is investigated through a simulation model of the complete UWB-over-fiber system. Results have shown enhanced performance of upconverted MB-OFDM subband compared to direct transmission due to optical noise reduction. First experimental results have confirmed simulation results.  相似文献

A global view of power system's frequency behavior opens up a new window for analyzing system's dynamics. With the aid of global positioning system, measurements from different locations would have synchronous time; therefore a system-wide observation and analysis would be possible. As part of the US-wide power frequency monitoring network project this paper focus on simulation study results of power frequency dynamics of the Eastern U.S. system. The study assesses the frequency measurement accuracy needed to observe frequency dynamics from events such as remote generation drops. Electromechanical-wave propagation phenomena during system disturbances have been observed. The speeds of electromechanical-wave propagation in different areas of the U.S. systems were estimated and their characteristics were discussed.  相似文献

A polarization insensitive (sensitivity <1 dB) GaInAs-GaInAsP semiconductor optical amplifier has been realized at 1.55 μm. The active layer consists of a strain-balanced superlattice structure. This letter considers high-rate block turbo codes (BTC) obtained by concatenation of two single-error-correcting Reed-Solomon (RS) constituent codes. Simulation results show that these codes perform within 1 dB of the theoretical limit for binary transmission over additive white Gaussian noise with a low-complexity decoder. A comparison with Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem BTCs of similar code rate reveals that RS BTCs have interesting advantages in terms of memory size and decoder complexity for very-high-data-rate decoding architectures.  相似文献

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is an imaging technique that attempts to reconstruct the impedance distribution inside an object from the impedance between electrodes placed on the object surface. The EIT reconstruction problem can be approached as a nonlinear nonconvex optimization problem in which one tries to maximize the matching between a simulated impedance problem and the observed data. This nonlinear optimization problem is often ill-posed, and not very suited to methods that evaluate derivatives of the objective function. It may be approached by simulated annealing (SA), but at a large computational cost due to the expensive evaluation process of the objective function, which involves a full simulation of the impedance problem at each iteration. A variation of SA is proposed in which the objective function is evaluated only partially, while ensuring boundaries on the behavior of the modified algorithm.  相似文献

An InP/InGaAs-based photonic band-edge laser bonded on silicon operating near 1.55 mum is presented. A gold reflector positioned below the slab containing the active layer reduces the optical losses of the Bloch-mode resonator. A new noise reduction algorithm is presented for signals displaying repeated patterns or multiple trials. Each pattern is stored in a matrix, forming a set of events, which is termed multievent signal. Each event is considered as an affine transform of a basic template signal that allows for time scaling and shifting. Wavelet transforms, decimated and undecimated, are applied to each event. Noise reduction on the set of coefficients of the transformed events is applied using either wavelet de- noising or principal component analysis (PCA) noise reduction methodologies. The method does not require any manual selection of coefficients. Nonstationary multievent synthetic signals are employed to demonstrate the performance of the method using normalized mean square error against classical wavelet and PCA based algorithms. The new method shows a significant improvement in low SNRs (typically <0 dB). On the experimental side, evoked potentials in a visual oddball paradigm are used. The reduced-noise visual oddball event-related potentials reveal gradual changes in morphology from trial to trial (especially for N1-P2 and N2-P3 waves at Fz), which can be hypothetically linked to attention or decision processes. The new noise reduction method is, thus, shown to be particularly suited for recovering single-event features in non- stationary low SNR multievent contexts.  相似文献
