Location-based games offer opportunities for us to learn more about people’s interactions and feelings towards the environment
they are in as well as to understand more about the mental models and locations associated with known environments, e.g. a
university campus with its associations of learning. In our study, we wanted to manipulate the activities in a game to take
advantage of certain locations in the hope of producing certain emotional reactions. However, it is not enough to simply produce
these reactions; one must also have a way of capturing any emotions produced whether these are the ones expected or not. The
objective of this paper, therefore, was to trial a new methodology for location-based games that aims at capturing the players’
emotional reactions to the activities in a game whilst in certain locations. In order to test the methodology, we designed
a location-based game that can be played on any Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone that has an accelerometer. The game has been
designed to interweave with a persons’ normal activity. As a result, there is little distinction between gaming time and non-gaming

Generating teams of robots that are able to perform their tasks over long periods of time requires the robots to be responsive to continual changes in robot team member capabilities and to changes in the state of the environment and mission. In this article, we describe the L-ALLIANCE architecture, which enables teams of heterogeneous robots to dynamically adapt their actions over time. This architecture, which is an extension of our earlier work on ALLIANCE, is a distributed, behavior-based architecture aimed for use in applications consisting of a collection of independent tasks. The key issue addressed in L-ALLIANCE is the determination of which tasks robots should select to perform during their mission, even when multiple robots with heterogeneous, continually changing capabilities are present on the team. In this approach, robots monitor the performance of their teammates performing common tasks, and evaluate their performance based upon the time of task completion. Robots then use this information throughout the lifetime of their mission to automatically update their control parameters. After describing the L-ALLIANCE architecture, we discuss the results of implementing this approach on a physical team of heterogeneous robots performing proof-of-concept box pushing experiments. The results illustrate the ability of L-ALLIANCE to enable lifelong adaptation of heterogeneous robot teams to continuing changes in the robot team member capabilities and in the environment. 相似文献

Protein oxidation mechanisms result in a wide array of modifications, from backbone cleavage or protein crosslinking to more subtle modifications such as side chain oxidations. Protein oxidation occurs as part of normal regulatory processes, as a defence mechanism against oxidative stress, or as a deleterious processes when antioxidant defences are overcome. Because blood is continually exposed to reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, blood proteomics should inherently adopt redox proteomic strategies. In this review, we recall the biochemical basis of protein oxidation, review the proteomic methodologies applied to analyse redox modifications, and highlight some physiological and in vitro responses to oxidative stress of various blood components. 相似文献

The subject of this article is a scheme for distributed outdoor localization of a team of robots and the use of the robot team for outdoor terrain mapping. Localization is accomplished via Extended Kalman Filtering (EKF). In the distributed EKF-based scheme for localization, heterogeneity of the available sensors is exploited in the absence or degradation of absolute sensors aboard the team members. The terrain mapping technique then utilizes localization information to facilitate the fusion of vision-based range information of environmental features with changes in elevation profile across the terrain. The result is a terrain matrix from which a metric map is then generated. The authors of this paper review how complex entities, composed of many interdependent subsystems, such as international rail operators, can improve their ability to recover from incidents through the better management of key interfaces. The principles of Normal Accident Theory and resilience engineering are discussed, and the case study of the Eurostar incident of 18–19 December 2009 is considered in detail. Though some software development teams are highly effective at delivering security, others either do not care or do not have access to security experts to teach them how. Unfortunately, these latter teams are still responsible for the security of the systems they build: systems that are ever more important to ever more people. We propose that a series of lightweight interventions, six hours of facilitated workshops delivered over three months, can improve a team's motivation to consider security and awareness of assurance techniques, changing its security culture even when no security experts are involved. The interventions were developed after an Appreciative Inquiry and Grounded Theory survey of security professionals to find out what approaches work best. We tested the interventions in a participatory action research field study where we delivered the workshops to three software development organizations and evaluated their effectiveness through interviews beforehand, immediately afterwards, and after twelve months. We found that the interventions can be effective with teams with limited or no security experience and that improvement is long-lasting. This approach and the learning points arising from the work here have the potential to be applied in many development teams, improving the security of software worldwide. 相似文献
