We report on structural and optical investigations of submonolayer-CdSe/ZnSe superlattices with varying thicknesses of the ZnSe spacer layers. High-resolution electron microscopy images demonstrate the formation of two-dimensional nanoscale CdSe islands for submonolayer-CdSe depositions. The vertical island arrangement is anti-correlated for spacer layer thicknesses exceeding 30Å, while predominantly vertically correlated growth occurs for thinner spacers. The different vertical ordering of the CdSe islands results in two clearly distinguishable lines in photoluminescence and optical reflectance spectra, which are attributed to excitons localized in quantum dots (QDs) formed by vertically coupled and uncoupled (Cd,Zn)Se islands, respectively. δ-like emission of single QDs is demonstrated and the different carrier localization in uncoupled and coupled QDs is reflected in the polarization of the edge emission. Stimulated emission and resonant waveguiding effects are observed for both states. At the highest excitation densities, we observe saturation of the stimulated emission in edge geometry attributed to saturation of localized states. 相似文献

This paper describes a tool to aid the development of computer vision applications for pixel-level diagnosis. A conceptual framework for constructing pixel processors is described. The proposed tool is based on two domains: one deals with numerical images, named features, and the other deals with symbolic images, named classes. A reduced set of image and operator types is defined. Based on it, an object-oriented language is described. The main objects define features and classes and their associated operators, namely procedures, classifiers, and rules. All system control is goal oriented and is designed to provide symbolic images as results when a request is received from a higher level of the image understanding system. The gallium gradient in Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) layers, which forms during the two industrially relevant deposition routes, the sequential and co‐evaporation processes, plays a key role in the device performance of CIGS thin‐film modules. In this contribution, we present a comprehensive study on the formation, nature, and consequences of gallium gradients in CIGS solar cells. The formation of gallium gradients is analyzed in real time during a rapid selenization process by in situ X‐ray measurements. In addition, the gallium grading of a CIGS layer grown with an in‐line co‐evaporation process is analyzed by means of depth profiling with mass spectrometry. This gallium gradient of a real solar cell served as input data for device simulations. Depth‐dependent occurrence of lateral inhomogeneities on the µm scale in CIGS deposited by the co‐evaporation process was investigated by highly spatially resolved luminescence measurements on etched CIGS samples, which revealed a dependence of the optical bandgap, the quasi‐Fermi level splitting, transition levels, and the vertical gallium gradient. Transmission electron microscopy analyses of CIGS cross‐sections point to a difference in gallium content in the near surface region of neighboring grains. Migration barriers for a copper‐vacancy‐mediated indium and gallium diffusion in CuInSe2 and CuGaSe2 were calculated using density functional theory. The migration barrier for the InCu antisite in CuGaSe2 is significantly lower compared with the GaCu antisite in CuInSe2, which is in accordance with the experimentally observed Ga gradients in CIGS layers grown by co‐evaporation and selenization processes. TiO2‐supported gold species were prepared via the deposition‐precipitation route, with conservation of the initial speciation by freeze‐drying. The structural and electronic properties of the Au species were investigated by X‐ray absorption spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and IR spectroscopy of adsorbed CO in four states. Exclusively AuIII was deposited on the TiO2 surface in patches ranging from isolated Au ions to three‐dimensional clusters. Work Hardening and Abrasion Resistance of White Cast Irons White cast irons are frequently used against abrasive wear under extreme loading conditions. The microsructure and the mechanical properties of these alloys play an important role to control their wear rates. Regarding the mechanical properties, it has been reported that the bulk hardness alone is not enough to describe the wear behaviour. Generally, it has been shown that the work hardening induced by the wear process has an essential effect on the abrasion resistance. In this investigation, using a pin abrasion test, the wear behaviour of Ni-Hard 4 and high chromium white cast irons has been studied. The gap junction protein connexin 43 (Cx43) is associated with increased cell migration and to related changes of the actin cytoskeleton, which is mediated via its C-terminal cytoplasmic tail and is independent of its channel function. Cx43 has been shown to possess an angiogenic potential, however, the role of Cx43 in endothelial cell migration has not yet been investigated. Here, we found that the knock-down of Cx43 by siRNA in human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC) reduces migration, as assessed by a wound assay in vitro and impaired aortic vessel sprouting ex vivo. Immunoprecipitation of Cx43 revealed an interaction with the tyrosine phosphatase SHP-2, which enhanced its phosphatase activity, as observed in Cx43 expressing HeLa cells compared to cells treated with an empty vector. Interestingly, the expression of a dominant negative substrate trapping mutant SHP-2 (CS) in HMEC, via lentiviral transduction, also impaired endothelial migration to a similar extent as Cx43 siRNA compared to SHP-2 WT. Moreover, the reduction in endothelial migration upon Cx43 siRNA could not be rescued by the introduction of a constitutively active SHP-2 construct (EA). Our data demonstrate that Cx43 and SHP-2 mediate endothelial cell migration, revealing a novel interaction between Cx43 and SHP-2, which is essential for this process. 相似文献
