The binding in vitro of the sodium salts of cholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, deoxycholic acid, taurocholic acid, taurochenodeoxycholic acid, taurodeoxycholic acid, glycocholic acid, glycochenodeoxycholic acid, and glycodeoxycholic acid by alfalfa, bran, cellulose, lignin, and cholestyramine was measured. Cholestyramine bound an average of 81.3% of all the bile acids and salts tested whereas cellulose bound only negligible amounts (1.4%). Of the other substances tested, lignin bound 29.2%, alfalfa, 15.9% and bran, 9.0%. No distinct pattern of binding was discerned. It is therefore apparent that the validity of statements concerning the effect of fiber on bile salf metabolism rests upon the specificity of the composition of the fiber involved and the bile acids or salts tested. 相似文献

Sexuality mature commerical broiler breeder pullets were housed singly in laying cages and artifically inseminated with one of three different levels of undiluted pooled semen (0.1, 0.05 and 0.025 ml.) at either of two different frequencies (once and twice a week) in three different trials. The best fertility was obtained by inseminating twice a week with 0.05 ml. of semen. Ergonovine maleate (EM) is a powerful stimulant of human tubal motility. It has been therefore thought that EM could interfere with normal ovum transport and serve as a contraceptive. The tube activating effects of EM and methyl EM were evaluated in 14 women and results confirmed that both are powerful stimulants of the human Fallopian tube. Essential oils obtained by simultaneous distillation–extraction (SDE) from leaves, petioles and roots of three types of parsley (turnip‐rooted, plain leaf and curly leaf type), sown on three different dates, were analysed by GC‐MS (gas chromatography–mass spectrometry) analysis. Parsley plants were found to produce mainly β‐phellandrene, 1,3,8‐p‐menthatriene, α‐,p‐dimethylstyrene, myristicin, β‐myrcene and apiole. In some cases α‐ and β‐pinene were also found, whereas β‐elemene was detected, especially in the curly leaf type. The growth stage, plant tissue and date of sowing, as well as the climate conditions, all had a significant effect on the essential oil composition by altering the ratio of the above substances. The 3% chitosan solutions incorporating 10% fish oil (w/w chitosan, containing 91.2% EPA and DHA) with or without the addition of 0.8% vitamin E were prepared. Fresh lingcod (Ophiodon elongates) fillets were vacuum-impregnated in coating solution at 100 mm Hg for 10 min followed by atmospheric restoration for 15 min, dried, and then stored at 2 °C or −20 °C for 3-weeks and 3-months, respectively, for physicochemical and microbial quality evaluation. Chitosan–fish oil coating increased total lipid and omega-3 fatty acid contents of fish by about 3-fold, reduced TBARS values in both fresh and frozen samples, and also decreased drip loss of frozen samples by 14.1–27.6%. Chitosan coatings resulted in 0.37–1.19 and 0.27–1.55 log CFU/g reductions in total plate and psychrotrophic counts in cold stored and frozen stored samples, respectively. Plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids (FA) are needed that can materially raise tissue levels of long-chain omega-3 FA [i.e.,
eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 20:6n-3)]. Stearidonic acid (SDA; 18:4n-3) is the delta-6
desaturase product of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA; 18:3n-3), and when fed to humans, increases red blood cell (RBC) content
of EPA to a greater extent than does ALA. This study was undertaken to determine the dose-dependence and time course of the
increase in the EPA and DHA content of the heart and RBC in dogs. Adult male Beagles were fed 21, 64, or 193 mg/kg of SDA
in in their food daily for up to 12 weeks. Positive and negative controls were given EPA (43 mg/kg) or high oleic acid sunflower
oil, respectively. The baseline EPA content of RBC was 0.38 ± 0.03% which increased (P < 0.01) in a dose-dependent manner, with the high dose of SDA and EPA achieving levels of 1.33 ± 0.26 and 1.55. ± 0.28%,
respectively. In the heart, the content of EPA rose from 0.06 ± 0.01 to 1.24 ± 0.22% in the EPA group and to 0.81 ± 0.32%
in the high SDA group (both P < 0.01). In both tissues, DHA did not change. Compared to dietary EPA, SDA was 20–23% as efficient in raising tissue EPA
levels. In conclusion, SDA supplementation increased the EPA content of RBC and heart and may have utility as a plant-based
