An experimental study has been performed on the effect of the temperature of gas and water droplets (3–6 mm in size) on deformation of water droplets that move with a moderate velocity (up to 5 m/s). A high-speed videocamera (recording at up to 105 fps) and a cross-correlation videocomplex were used. The droplet temperature varied in the range of 285–360 K. For gaseous mediums, air at a temperature of 280–300 K and condensed substance combustion products at a temperature about 1100 K were used. Typical deformation cycles were found. Their length, duration, and amplitude were calculated. The time a shape of droplet transforms into a new shape and the time the droplets retain their shape as they move through a gas medium have been determined. Approximating correlations for the basic characteristic of deformation under various heating or cooling conditions in a water droplet–gas system were derived.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental study of heat and mass transfer and phase transformations in the suppression of flaming combustion and thermal decomposition of model ground, crown, and mixed forest fires due to local exposure to water. The experiments were carried out with typical combustible forest materials (mixture of leaves, needles, and twigs) and models of trunks and branches of trees. The conditions and characteristics of suppression of the flaming combustion and thermal decomposition of combustible forest materials were determined. It is shown that in the case of crown and mixed fires, local short-term (a few seconds) action of a liquid projectile does not suppress the thermal decomposition of the material (but can only lead to localization of flaming combustion). In the case of ground forest fires, this approach can be efficient with an appropriate choice of the water-irrigated area of the combustion zone and the rate and time of water spraying.  相似文献

Methods of X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, and measurements of the dynamic magnetic susceptibility have been used to investigate the sequence of phase transformations upon the mechanical alloying of a mixture of powders of the initial components of the composition (Fe0.93Cr.07)75C25. It has been shown that, at later stages of mechanical alloying, the phase composition is determined by the conditions of the dynamic equilibrium between the crystalline and amorphous phases. A change in the conditions of mechanical alloying leads to a shift in this equilibrium and to a change in the phase composition of the alloy. A comparison of carbide formation in the Fe–C system upon the mechanosynthesis, tempering of martensite, the saturation of iron with carbon from the gaseous medium, the quenching of the melt, and the sputtering deposition of films has been performed. Some general regularities have been established, from which it follows that an important role in phase formation upon the mechanosynthesis, just as in other abovementioned processes, is played by the thermally activated phenomena.  相似文献
