The physical origin of the open‐circuit voltage in bulk heterojunction solar cells is still not well understood. While significant evidence exists to indicate that the open‐circuit voltage is limited by the molecular orbital energies of the heterojunction components, it is clear that this picture is not sufficient to explain the significant variations which often occur between cells fabricated from the same heterojunction components. We present here an analysis of the variation in open‐circuit voltage between 0.4–0.65 V observed for a range of P3HT/PCBM solar cells where device deposition conditions, electrode structure, active‐layer thickness and device polarity are varied. The analysis quantifies non‐geminate recombination losses of dissociated carriers in these cells, measured under device operating conditions. It is found that at open‐circuit, losses due to non‐geminate recombination are sufficiently large that other loss pathways may effectively be neglected. Variations in open‐circuit voltage between different devices are shown to arise from differences in the rate coefficient for non‐geminate recombination, and from differences in the charge densities in the photoactive layer of the device. The origin of these differences is discussed, particularly with regard to variations in film microstructure. By separately quantifying these differences in rate coefficient and charge density, and by application of a simple physical model based upon the assumption that open‐circuit is reached when the flux of charge photogeneration is matched by the flux of non‐geminate recombination, we are able to calculate correctly the open‐circuit voltage for all the cells studied to within an accuracy of ±5 mV.  相似文献

A study of the photo‐oxidation of films of poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(3′,7′‐dimethyloctyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] (MDMO‐PPV) blended with [6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), and solar cells based thereon, is presented. Solar‐cell performance is degraded primarily through loss in short‐circuit current density, JSC. The effect of the same photodegradation treatment on the optical‐absorption, charge‐recombination, and charge‐transport properties of the active layer is studied. It is concluded that the loss in JSC is primarily due to a reduction in charge‐carrier mobility, owing to the creation of more deep traps in the polymer during photo‐oxidation. Recombination is slowed down by the degradation and cannot therefore explain the loss in photocurrent. Optical absorption is reduced by photo‐bleaching, but the size of this effect alone is insufficient to explain the loss in device photocurrent.  相似文献

Numerically stable electric field integral equations (EFIE) are presented for electromagnetic scattering problems that may include both electrically small geometrically complex and electrically large regions. A reduced integrand is achieved by implementing quasi-static assumptions in the electrically small regions, full-wave methods in the electrically large regions, and applying appropriate coupling relations between the regions. Use of the method provides computational efficiency as well as insight into the conditions under which the electromagnetic fields within electrically small regions of the problem can be assumed to be primarily capacitive or inductive in nature. The theoretical development of the method is highlighted in this communication and then applied to examples of electrically small, inductively-loaded, and capacitively-loaded monopole antennas. The accuracy of the results is verified with two independent methods.  相似文献

Power electronics building blocks (PEBBs) are envisioned as integrated power modules consisting of power semiconductor devices, power integrated circuits, sensors, and protection circuits for a wide range of power electronics applications, such as inverters for motor drives and converters for power processing equipment. At the Center for Power Electronics Systems, we developed a topology for a basic building block-a two-switch two-diode half-bridge converter in totem-pole configuration with built-in gate-driver and protection circuitry, fiber-optic receiver/transmitter interface, and soft-switching capability. Based on the topology, a series of prototype modules, with 600 V, 3.3 kW rating, were fabricated using an innovative packaging technique developed for the program-metal posts interconnected parallel plate structure (MPIPPS). This new packaging technique uses direct attachment of bulk copper, not wire-bonding of fine aluminum wires, for interconnecting power devices. Electrical performance data of the packaged devices show that an air-cooled 15 kW inverter, operating from 400 V dc bus with 20 kHz switching frequency can be constructed by integrating three prototype modules, which is almost double what could be achieved with commercially packaged devices of the same rating  相似文献

The properties of ZnO thin films codoped with lithium and phosphorus have been characterized. The films were deposited from high-purity ZnO and Li3PO4 solid targets onto c-plane sapphire substrates by radiofrequency (RF) magnetron sputtering. A substrate temperature of 900°C was determined as optimum for depositing undoped ZnO films with background electron concentration of 9.9 × 1015 cm?3 as the buffer layer on the sapphire substrate. Postdeposition annealing was carried out using rapid thermal processing in O2 at temperatures ranging from 500°C to 1000°C for 3 min. Analyses performed using low-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy measurements revealed luminescence peaks at 3.356 eV, 3.307 eV, 3.248 eV, and 3.203 eV at 12 K for the codoped samples. X-ray diffraction 2θ-scans showed a single peak at about 34.4° with full-width at half-maximum of about 0.09°. Hall-effect measurements revealed initial p-type conductivities, but these were unstable and toggled between p-type and n-type over time with Hall concentrations that varied between 2.05 × 1013 cm?3 and 2.89 × 1015 cm?3. The fluctuation in the carrier type could be due to lateral inhomogeneity in the hole concentration caused by stacking faults in the films. An additional cause could be the small Hall voltages in the measurements, which could be significantly impacted by even small spikes in signal noise inherent in the measurements.  相似文献

A support vector classifier (SVC) approach was employed in predicting the risk of progression of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), a condition that causes visible trunk asymmetries. As the aetiology of AIS is unknown, its risk of progression can only be predicted from measured indicators. Previous studies suggest that individual indicators of AIS do not reliably predict its risk of progression. Complex indicators with better predictive values have been developed but are unsuitable for clinical use as obtaining their values is often onerous, involving much skill and repeated measurements taken over time. Based on the hypothesis that combining common indicators of AIS using an SVC approach would produce better prediction results more quickly, we conducted a study using three datasets comprising a total of 44 moderate AIS patients (30 observed, 14 treated with brace). Of the 44 patients, 13 progressed less than 5 degrees and 31 progressed more than 5 degrees. One dataset comprised all the patients. A second dataset comprised all the observed patients and a third comprised all the brace-treated patients. Twenty-one radiographic and clinical indicators were obtained for each patient. The result of testing on the three datasets showed that the system achieved 100% accuracy in training and 65%-80% accuracy in testing. It outperformed a "statistically equivalent" logistic regression model and a stepwise linear regression model on the said datasets. It took less than 20 min per patient to measure the indicators, input their values into the system, and produce the needed results, making the system viable for use in a clinical environment.  相似文献

Ingress nodes in optical burst switching (OBS) networks are responsible for assembling burst from incoming packets and forwarding these bursts into the OBS network core. Changes in the statistical characteristics of a traffic stream at an ingress switch can affect the capacity of the network to provide quality of service. Therefore, the statistical characteristics of the output flow of an ingress node must be known for appropriate network dimensioning. This paper evaluates the impact of burst assembly mechanisms on the scaling properties of multifractal traffic flows. Results show that the factor most relevant in determining the nature of the output traffic flow is the relationship between the cut-off time scale of the input traffic and the time scale of assembly threshold. Moreover, a procedure for the detection of the cut-off scale of incoming traffic is introduced.  相似文献

Mobile microvortices generated by rotating nickel (Ni) nanowires (NW) have been reported as capable of inducing fluidic trapping that can be precisely focused and translated to manipulate microobjects. Here, a new design for significantly enhanced fluidic trapping is reported, which is a dumbbell (DB)‐shaped magnetic actuator, assembled by a Ni NW and two polystyrene microbeads. In contrast to the single mode of tumbling trapping possessed by Ni NW, the magnetic dumbbell is able to perform dynamical trapping and implement on‐demand transport of microobjects in three modes, i.e., tumbling, wobbling, and rolling. Experiments are conducted to demonstrate the robustness and efficacy of the fluidic trap by the DB actuator. And simulations using a finite element model compare the fluidic traps induced by NW and DB, followed by further discussion on the actuation and transport efficiency of NW and DB fluidic tweezers (FT). At last, some practical issues regarding the application of DB FT are addressed.  相似文献

Directed nanoparticle self‐organization and two‐photon polymerization are combined to enable three‐dimensional soft‐magnetic microactuators with complex shapes and shape‐independent magnetic properties. Based on the proposed approach, single and double twist‐type swimming microrobots with programmed magnetic anisotropy are demonstrated, and their swimming properties in DI‐water are characterized. The fabricated devices are actuated using weak rotating magnetic fields and are capable of performing wobble‐free corkscrew propulsion. Single twist‐type actuators possess an increase in surface area in excess of 150% over helical actuators with similar feature size without compromising the forward velocity of over one body length per second. A generic and facile combination of glycine grafting and subsequent protein immobilization exploits the actuator's increased surface area, providing for a swimming microrobotic platform with enhanced load capacity desirable for future biomedical applications. Successful surface modification is confirmed by FITC fluorescence.  相似文献
