We report the effects of gas composition pressure (GCP) on the optical, structural and electrical properties of thin amorphous carbon (a-C) films grown on p-type silicon and quartz substrates by microwave surface wave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MW SWP CVD). The films, deposited at various GCPs ranging from 50 to 110 Pa, were studied by UV/VIS/NIR spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and current–voltage characteristics. The optical band gap of the a-C film was tailored to a relatively high range, 2.3–2.6 eV by manipulating GCPs from 50 to 110 Pa. Also, spin density strongly depended on the band gap of the a-C films. Raman spectra showed qualitative structured changes due to sp3/sp2 carbon bonding network. The surfaces of the films are found to be very smooth and uniform (RMS roughness < 0.5 nm). The photovoltaic measurements under light illumination (AM 1.5, 100 mW/cm2) show that short-circuit current density, open-circuit voltage, fill factor and photo-conversion efficiency of the film deposited at 50 Pa were 6.4 μA/cm2, 126 mV, 0.164 and 1.4 × 10− 4% respectively.  相似文献

Al2O3 and SiC composite materials have been produced from mixtures of aluminosilicates (both natural minerals and synthetic) and carbon as precursor materials. These composites are produced by heating a mixture of kaolinite (or synthetic aluminosilicates) and carbon in stoichiometric proportion above 1550°C, so that only Al2O3 and SiC remain as the major phases. A similar process has also been used for synthesizing other composite powders having mixtures of Al2O3, SiC, TiC, and ZrO2 in different proportions (all compounds together or selective mixtures of some of them), as desired. The microstructure of hot-pressed dense compacts, produced from these powders, revealed that the SiC phase is distributed very homogeneously, even occasionally within Al2O3 grains on a nanosize scale. The homogeneous distribution of SiC particles within the system produced high fracture toughness of the hot-pressed material (KIC∼ 7.0 MPa · m1/2) and having Vicker's hardness values greater than 2000 kgf/mm2.  相似文献

A quantitative gas liquid Chromatographic method of analysis for sucrose mono- and diesters, prepared from naturally occurring triglycerides, is described. For esters containing predominantly C16C1s alkyl groups, a common calibration curve was obtained. Calibration standards were prepared by column chromatography using silica gel adsorbent. Methods of analysis for the major impurities present in the sucrose mono- and diesters are also described.  相似文献

Melt rheological properties of the ternary blend of isotactic polypropylene (PP), styreneethylene–butylene–styrene terpolymer (SEBS), and polycarbonate (PC), PP/SEBS/PC, are studied in a wide range of composition, such that PP is the matrix and SEBS and PC are the minor components, with the proportion of one varying from 0 to 30% at various fixed compositions of the other. The respective binary blends, PP/SEBS and PP/PC, studied as the reference systems for interpretation of results on the ternary blends yielded interesting new information about the morphology development and its correlation with melt rheological properties of these binary blends. The studies include the measurement of melt rheological properties on a capillary rheometer in the shear rate range 101–104 s?1 at a fixed temperature of 240°C. The data presented as conventional flow curves are analyzed for the effect of blend composition and shear rate on pseudoplasticity, melt viscosity, and melt elasticity, and role of each individual component is identified. Morphology of dispersed phases of these blends is studied through scanning electron microscopy of the cryogenically fractured and suitably etched surfaces. Variations of morphology with blend composition and shear rate showed interesting correlation with melt rheological properties, which are discussed in detail. An important finding of the morphological studies is that in the PP/SEBS/PC ternary blend the SEBS phase forms two types of morphologies depending on the blend composition and shear rate: (i) simple droplets and (ii) boundary layer at the surface of the PC droplets. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The chemical composition and quantitative molar ratios among all components of biodegradable polyphosphoester copolymers of DL ‐lactide and ethylphosphate were determined by a comprehensive set of NMR spectroscopic methods. The polyphosphoester copolymers studied were synthesized using condensation polymerization of oligomeric DL ‐lactide prepolymers and ethyl dichlorophosphate. Conclusive identification of the chemical shift patterns of all functional groups in the copolymers required additional NMR methods such as 31P‐NMR and two‐dimensional 1H–1H COSY NMR, in addition to the synthesis and comparative NMR analysis of model compounds possessing identical phosphoester linkages in the polyphosphoester copolymers. For the polymers synthesized using the bulk polycondensation process, 1H–1H COSY NMR analysis revealed the presence of a small amount of side products that were undetected by 1H‐NMR alone. These side reactions most likely occurred between the pendant ethoxy group of the phosphoesters and the hydrogen chloride gas generated in the bulk polycondensation process. 31P‐NMR spectra of the copolymers revealed a consistent triple‐peak pattern characteristic of phosphoesters linked to a racemic mixture of D,L ‐lactides. These results offered new insight into the side reactions occurring in bulk polymerization of polyphosphoesters and provided a powerful tool of characterizing complex biodegradable polymers. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A cadmium ethylenediamine solvent (cadoxen) of modified composition containing 0.5 M sodium hydroxide, 5% cadmium, and 28–30 % ethylenediamine was found to dissolve high molecular cotton materials even under higher ambient temperature conditions as in India. The stability of cellulose solutions in this solvent was still high enough to enable viscosity measurements without exclusion of air. Intrinsic Viscosity values were determined for a large number of cellulosic materials. A study of the kinetics of degradation of cellulosic solutions in cadoxen gave comparatively higher rate constants in nitrogen atmosphere and a higher energy of activation as compared to other alkaline solvents indicating that degradation in cadoxen cannot be considered primarily oxidative in nature.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) sutures are prepared by the simultaneous radiation grafting of 1‐vinylimidazole (VIm) onto PP monofilament sutures. The tenacity slightly decreases whereas the elongation increases with the increase in the degree of grafting. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the stability of the sutures is enhanced by the grafting process. The grafted sutures have reasonably good water uptake. They are subsequently immobilized with an antimicrobial drug, ciprofloxacin. The modified suture releases the drug over a period of 4–5 days. The antimicrobial activity of the modified suture is determined against Esherichia coli by the zone of inhibition technique. The aqueous polymerization of acrylamide initiated by potassium permanganate/β-hydroxybutyric acid has been studied volumetrically at 35 ± 0.01°C in an inert medium. The rate of polymerization shows nearly square root dependence on β-hydroxybutyric acid at low concentration (3.12 – 12.5 · 10?3 mol dm?3). The order with respect to potassium permanganate has been found to be 0.6 indicating thereby a bimolecular mode of termination. The polymerization rate has been varied linearly at low monomer concentrations i.e. from 2.5 –7.0 · 10?2 mol dm?3. The dependence of number average degree of polymerization on the initial rate of polymerization and temperature has been determined. The over-all activation energy has been found to be 51.66 kJ mol?1. A kinetic reaction scheme is proposed on the basis of experimental results.  相似文献

A model for transitional breakage probability of droplets in agitated lean fiquid-liquid dispersions is proposed based on the mechanism of breakage of droplets due to their oscillations resulting from relative velocity fluctuations. A universal transitional breakage probability in terms of non-dimensionalized drop diameter is derived for all dispersed phases whose density and viscosity are almost the same as that of continuous phase. The maximum stable drop diameter ds derived from the model, shows a dependence of NWe?0.6. It is shown that a “power law” approximation Kvn is valid for transitional breakage probability for d/ds up to 2. The exponent 2.67, predicted by this model corresponds rather well with an estimate of 2, obtained from experimental observations. A functional relation for the rate constant K in terms of the parameters and physical properties of the system is derived. A universal non-dimensionalized equilibrium drop-size distribution for agitated lean liquid-liquid dispersions is derived by analytical solution of a population balance equation simplified by order of magnitude estimates. Interestingly enough, this analytical solution is the same as the Gaussian distribution suggested empirically by Chen and Middleman.  相似文献

To determine effects of very low levels of linolenic acid on frying stabilities of soybean oils, tests were conducted with 2% (low) linolenic acid soybean oil (LLSBO) and 0.8% (ultra-low) linolenic acid soybean oil (ULLSBO) in comparison with cottonseed oil (CSO). Potato chips were fried in the oils for a total of 25 h of oil use. No significant differences were found for either total polar compounds or FFA between samples of LLSBO and ULLSBO; however, CSO had significantly higher percentage of polar compounds and FFA than the soybean oils at all sampling times. Flavor evaluations of fresh and aged (1, 3, 5, and 7 wk at 25°C) potato chips showed some differences between potato chips fried in different oil types. Sensory panel judges reported that potato chips fried in ULLSBO and aged for 3 or 7 wk at 25°C had significantly lower intensities of fishy flavor than did potato chips fried in LLSBO with the same conditions. Potato chips fried in ULLSBO that had been used for 5 h and then aged 7 wk at 25°C had significantly better quality than did potato chips fried 5 h in LLSBO and aged under the same conditions. Hexanal was significantly higher in the 5-h LLSBO sample than in potato chips fried 5 h in ULLSBO. The decrease in linolenic acid from 2 to 0.8% in the oils improved flavor quality and oxidative stability of some of the potato chip samples.  相似文献
