The rheological and morphological properties of blends based on high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) and a commercial ethylene–octene copolymer (EOC) produced by metallocene technology were investigated. The rheological properties were evaluated in steady and dynamic shear experiments at 190°C in shear rates ranging from 90 s?1 to 1500 s?1 and frequency range between 10?1 rad/s and 102 rad/s, respectively. These blends presented a high level of homogeneity in the molten state and rheological behavior was generally intermediate to those of the pure components. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the blends exhibit dispersed morphologies with EOC domains distributed homogeneously and with particle size inferior to 2 μm. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of blends of high density polyethylene and poly(ethylene‐co‐1‐octene) (PEO) were evaluated. The blends were prepared in a single screw extruder at 230°C and 50 rpm with volume fraction of elastomer varying in the range from 0.05 to 0.8. Factors such as chemical similarity and melt viscosity favor the interdiffusion process of phases, resulting in better interfacial adhesion. A synergistic effect on the strength at break and elongation at break for a particular range of blend composition was observed. Blends with a volume fraction of PEO higher than 5% presented a super tough behavior at room temperature. Gelatin fibers were prepared by electrospinning of gelatin/acetic acid/water ternary mixtures with the aim of studying the feasibility of fabricating gelatin nanofiber mats at room temperature using an alternative benign solvent by significantly reducing the acetic acid concentration. The results showed that gelatin nanofibers can be optimally electrospun with low acetic acid concentration (25%, v/v) combined with gelatin concentrations higher than 300 mg/mL. Both gelatin solutions and electrospun gelatin mats (prepared with different acetic acid aqueous solutions) were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry techniques to determine the chemical and structural changes of the polymer. The electrospun gelatin mats fabricated from solutions with low acetic acid content showed some advantages as the maintenance of the decomposition temperature of the pure gelatin (~ 230°C) and the reduction of the acid content on electrospun mats, which allowed to reach a cell viability upper than 90% (analyzed by cell viability test using human dermal fibroblast and embryonic kidney cells). This study has also analyzed the influence of gelatin and acetic acid concentration both on the solution viscosity and the electrospun fiber diameter, obtaining a clear relationship between these parameters. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Measurements of degradation in frying oils are mainly based on physico-chemical properties. Total polar compounds (TPC) and free fatty acids (FFA) content in frying oils are used as a guide for discarding used oils. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a sensory method in detecting degradation in soybean oils used in potato chips deep frying. The sensory evaluation of oil samples was determined by a trained panel; after rigorous selection and training steps. Free fatty acid, TPC and Rancimat induction period (IP) were quantified in the same samples. The proposed sensory method was sensitive to small differences in rancidity. The selected and trained sensory panel discarded oil samples with 0.175% FFA as oleic acid, 18.92% TPC, and 0.20 h IP. According to the results achieved in this research sensorial trained panel response is sensitive and accurate in refusing deteriorated frying oils. Besides this, soybean oil can be used for deep frying procedures and safely discarded according to the panel response, although presenting up to 7% linolenic acid.  相似文献

The antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is characterized by thrombosis and/or pregnancy morbidity with the persistent presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs). Laboratory criteria for the classification of APS include the detection of lupus anticoagulant (LAC), anti-cardiolipin (aCL) antibodies and anti-β2glycoprotein I (aβ2GPI) antibodies. Clinical criteria for the classification of thrombotic APS include venous and arterial thrombosis, along with microvascular thrombosis. Several aPLs, including LAC, aβ2GPI and anti-phosphatidylserine/prothrombin antibodies (aPS/PT) have been associated with arterial thrombosis. The Von Willebrand Factor (VWF) plays an important role in arterial thrombosis by mediating platelet adhesion and aggregation. Studies have shown that aPLs antibodies present in APS patients are able to increase the risk of arterial thrombosis by upregulating the plasma levels of active VWF and by promoting platelet activation. Inflammatory reactions induced by APS may also provide a suitable condition for arterial thrombosis, mostly ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction. The presence of other cardiovascular risk factors can enhance the effect of aPLs and increase the risk for thrombosis even more. These factors should therefore be taken into account when investigating APS-related arterial thrombosis. Nevertheless, the exact mechanism by which aPLs can cause thrombosis remains to be elucidated.  相似文献

It is vital to process breadfruit in order to develop new value-added products with improved sensory and physicochemical characteristics. In this research, dried breadfruit was extruded with a twin screw extruder and effects of barrel temperature, moisture content, feeding rate and screw speed on product physicochemical properties and process energy consumption were studied. Quadratic models were obtained to predict the product quality under various processing conditions. The best range of crispness of the extrudate was from 2.0 to 3.5N/s, hardness from 60 to 75 N and bulk density from 0.3 to 0.38 g/cm3. Corresponding operating conditions of feeding rate, temperature, screw speed and moisture content to obtain best results of crispness, hardness and bulk density were 16 kg/h, 130 °C, 160 rpm, 22 g/100 g; 22 kg/h, 150 °C, 160rpm, 22 g/kg; 19 kg/h, 140 °C, 115 rpm, 19 g/100 g; and 25 kg/h, 140 °C, 145 rpm, 19 g/100 g, respectively. The linear term of screw speed significantly effected all indexes (p < 0.001), especially water absorption and solubility indexes, sectional expansion ratio, bulk density, color and specific mechanical energy. The interaction term of feed rate and temperature, and square term of screw speed had no significant influences (p ≥ 0.1). The findings were useful for developing and optimizing extruded or value-added co products of breadfruit.  相似文献

Mesoporous amorphous silica-aluminas were synthesised with standard aluminium and silicon sources by means of the formation of inorganic–organic composites with the addition of chitosan biopolymer, and compared to analogous catalysts synthesised conventionally. Some catalysts were subjected to hydrothermal treatment. The resulting specific surface areas were from 480 to 573 m2/g in the untreated samples and 300–430 m2/g in the hydrotreated catalysts, average pore sizes ranging from 32 to 100 Å with sharp, unimodal distributions. The chitosan materials showed higher specific surface areas and larger pore sizes than those of their non-chitosan counterparts. The most important differences in the acidic properties were in the relationships between tetrahedral and octahedral aluminium atoms, the chitosan materials having higher relative amounts of tetrahedral aluminium than the conventional silica-aluminas. Evidences of stabilization in the physical and chemical properties were observed in the chitosan-containing catalysts. The catalytic performance was evaluated with the conversion of tri-isopropylbenzene at 400 °C, to assess activity and accessibility, and cyclohexene at 300 °C, to assess hydrogen transfer properties. The highest activity and accessibility was observed in the hydrotreated, chitosan-containing catalyst, while hydrogen transfer capabilities were similar to those of medium unit cell sizes, equilibrium commercial FCC catalysts.  相似文献

Two different cooling rates have been imposed during the early solidification of two multi-crystalline silicon ingots with 250mm diameter and 100mm height in a pilot scale directional solidification furnace. This has been done by opening a variable heat leak system below the crucible in order to achieve a high initial cooling rate in one of the ingots. The grain-structure and -orientation of these two ingots have been investigated by light microscopy (LM) and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and their electrical properties by quasi-steady state photo-conductance (QSSPC) and surface photovoltage (SPV) method. The ingot with the high initial cooling rate shows predominantly grains which are significantly larger than what is usually found in mc-Si. The minority carrier diffusion lengths measured on the large grains in the ingot with high cooling rate show higher values than those measured on the ingot with smaller grains. These results indicate that principles of grain size and -orientation control in mc-Si ingots can be applied to a pilot scale furnace, and the potential for up-scaling to industrial ingots with improved electrical properties and, thus, higher solar cell conversion efficiency.  相似文献

Intimate partner violence is a serious and pervasive social problem with deleterious consequences for survivors’ well-being. The current study involved interviewing 160 survivors 6 times over 2 years to examine the role of social support in explaining or buffering these negative psychological consequences. The authors examined both between- and within-persons variability to explore women’s trajectories regarding their experiences of abuse, social support, depression, and quality of life (QOL). Findings revealed the complex role of social support on women’s well-being. Evidence was found for main, mediating, and moderating effects of social support on women’s well-being. First, social support was positively related to QOL and negatively related to depression. Social support also partially explained the effect of baseline level and subsequent change in physical abuse on QOL and depression over time, partially mediated the effects of change in psychological abuse, and moderated the impact of abuse on QOL. The buffering effects of social support were strongest at lower levels of abuse. Implications for future research and intervention are discussed. The utility of database searching to identify chiral ligand motifs is outlined. The key elements of three known chiral ligands have been described as bond vectors. The CAVEAT program was then used to screen the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), portions of the Chemical Abstracts Services three-dimensional database (CAS-3D), and the TRIAD tricyclic structure database for scaffolds containing these elements. Scaffolds corresponding to the known starting points were identified indicating that this method can be used to identify chiral ligand structural motifs. In addition, alternate structural motifs were found that suggested alternative possible ligands.  相似文献
