Data from the literature suggest that the availability of the amino acids threonine, cysteine, or both, is limiting for mucin synthesis under conditions of chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Unlike casein, cheese whey protein is rich in these amino acids. The protective effect of cheese whey protein was examined using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced inflammation of the large intestine in rats that were fed a diet containing casein, cheese whey protein, or casein supplemented with threonine and cysteine. The clinical markers diarrhea and fecal blood were determined using biochemical assays, and gene expression of inflammation markers was used to quantify inflammation. The effect of dairy protein on mucin production was determined by gene expression of rat mucin 2 (MUC2) and by quantifying fecal mucin excretion. Fecal lactobacilli and bifidobacteria were determined using quantitative PCR. Dietary cheese whey protein reduced DSS-induced gene expression of the inflammation markers interleukin 1β, calprotectin, and inducible nitric oxide synthase, and diminished the clinical symptoms diarrhea and fecal blood loss. Moreover, cheese whey protein increased fecal mucin secretion without affecting gene expression of MUC2, suggesting enhanced mucin synthesis. In addition, cheese whey protein increased fecal lactobacilli and bifidobacteria counts. Supplementation of threonine and cysteine showed comparable effects. In conclusion, cheese whey protein protected rats against DSS-induced gut inflammation. This can most likely be explained by its threonine and cysteine content. Protection can be the result of both the stimulation of intestinal mucin synthesis and modification of microflora composition.  相似文献

The persistent natural hydrocarbon seepage in onshore basins challenges observation and exploration technologies, which are required to document and assess these valuable indications of the presence of oil and gas in the subsurface. This paper aims at demonstrating the relationship between the compositional variation of an evaporite cap rock and the types of seeps occurring at the surface. For this purpose, the multispectral Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) data was utilized for mapping mineral variations of a petroleum system in the Zagros oil fields. Relative absorption-band depth (RBD), band rationing and the boosted regression trees (BRT) were applied to enhance and classify the mineral composition of evaporite, sandstone, and marly limestone formations. The gas seeps were associated with the areas of gypsum-bearing evaporite cap rock while oil seeps were mostly associated with calcite and clay zones within the cap rock, which was more prone to fracturing during the tectonic activities of the basin. It is suggested that the application of remote sensing in the oil and gas industry could be widened by detection of sleep-induced alteration to assess the efficiency of cap rock and to evaluate the productivity of reservoirs at a regional scale.  相似文献

Biofilm accumulation in nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membrane elements results in a relative increase of normalised pressure drop (ΔNPD). However, an increase in ΔNPD is not exclusively linked to biofouling. In order to quantify biofouling, the biomass parameters adenosine triphosphate (ATP), total cell count and heterotrophic plate count in membrane elements were investigated during membrane autopsies and compared with ΔNPD in test rigs and 15 full scale investigations with different types of feed water. The combination of biomass related parameters ATP and total cell count in membrane elements seem to be suitable parameters for diagnosis of biofouling, whereas plate counts were not appropriate to assess biofouling. The applied ΔNPD measurement was too insensitive for early detection of fouling. Measurements of biological parameters in the water were shown to be not appropriate in quantifying biofouling. Evidently, there is a need for a practical tool, sensitive pressure drop data and systematic research.  相似文献

The deployment of new network architectures, services, and protocols is often manual, ad hoc, and time-consuming. We introduce “spawning networks,” a new class of programmable networks that automate the life cycle process for the creation, deployment, and management of network architectures. These networks are capable of spawning distinct “child” virtual networks with their own transport, “parent's” network resources and in isolation from other spawned networks. Spawned child networks represent programmable virtual networks and support the controlled access to communities at users with specific connectivity, security, and quality of service requirements. In this article we present a framework for the realization of spawning networks based on the notion of the Genesis Kernel, a virtual network operating system capable of creating distinct virtual network architectures on the fly. We discuss the motivation and principles that underpin spawning networks and focus on the design of the transport, programming and life cycle environments, which comprise the main architectural components of the Genesis Kernel  相似文献

Although Canadian dairy herds have been infected with bovine leukemia virus (BLV) for years, recent research has put new emphasis on the potential negative effects of this infection. Consequently, BLV control is becoming more favorable; however, BLV control cannot be successful without identifying infected animals. Bovicheck BLV (Biovet, Saint-Hyacinthe, QC, Canada) is currently the only assay licensed by the Canadian Centre for Veterinary Biologics. The first goal of this study was, therefore, to determine the reproducibility of the Bovicheck BLV assay for serum samples derived from Canadian cattle. The second goal was to evaluate and compare 5 different ELISA and determine their test characteristics using serum samples from Canadian herds. The considered ELISA were Bovicheck BLV, ID Screen BLV Competition (IDvet, Grabels, France), Idexx Leukosis Serum X2 Ab Test (Idexx Europe B.V., Hoofddorp, the Netherlands), Svanovir BLV gp51-Ab (Svanova, Uppsala, Sweden), and the Serelisa BLV Ab Mono Indirect (Synbiotics, Lyon, France). Eighty serum samples from Canadian cattle provided by Prairie Diagnostic Services (PDS; Saskatoon, SK, Canada) and an additional 80 serum samples from Canadian dairy and beef herds were used for the study. The Bovicheck BLV assay yielded the same results for all PDS-derived samples, implying a high level of reproducibility and robustness of this assay. Additionally, the comparison of the assays' results showed high agreement between assays, with Cohen's kappa values between κ = 0.91 and κ = 1. Furthermore, using original test results of the field samples as true status, relative diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were calculated. Relative diagnostic sensitivity of all tests was 100%. False-positive results were probable; therefore, the following relative diagnostic specificities were determined: 100% for Bovicheck BLV, Idexx Leukosis Serum X2, and Svanovir BLV; 95% for ID Screen BLV; and 97% for Serelisa BLV. When considering other test characteristics, ID Screen BLV is exceptional due to considerable practical advantages.  相似文献

Minerals found in milk, such as Se, Ca, K, Zn, Mg, and P, contribute to several vital physiological processes. The aim of this study was to quantify the genetic variation in levels of Se, Ca, K, Zn, Mg, and P in milk and to quantify the between-herd variation in the levels of these minerals in milk. One morning milk sample from each of 1,860 Dutch Holstein-Friesian cows from 388 commercial herds in the Netherlands was used. Concentration of minerals was determined by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry. Variance components were estimated using an animal model with covariates for days in milk and age at first calving; fixed effects for season of calving and effect of test or proven bull; and random effects for animal, herd, and error. Heritability and proportion of phenotypic variation that can be explained by herd were estimated using univariate analysis. The intraherd heritability for Se was low (0.20) whereas herd explained 65% of the total variation in Se. Variation between herds most likely results from variation in Se content in the feed, which partly reflects variation in Se levels in the soil. Intraherd heritabilities for Ca, K, Zn, Mg, and P were moderate to high and were 0.57, 0.46, 0.41, 0.60, and 0.62, respectively. For Ca, K, Zn, Mg, and P, the proportions of phenotypic variation that could be explained by herd were low (0.13-0.24). This study shows that there are possibilities for altering the mineral composition of milk. For Ca, K, Zn, Mg, and P, there are good prospects for selective breeding whereas, for Se, measures at farm level may be more effective.  相似文献

An in-vitro method using commercially available enzymes for the prediction of the in-vivo digestible crude protein content was developed and tested on seven feedstuffs and 16 diets for pigs. Fat-extracted feed samples were consecutively incubated with pepsin at pH 1 and pancreatin at pH 6.8. From the nitrogen content of the feed sample and of the residue after incubation the in-vitro digestibility of the crude protein was calculated. Using the linear regression of in-vitro on in-vivo digestible crude protein of samples obtained in feeding trials, the in-vivo digestible crude protein content (DXPp) in g kg?1 dry matter could be predicted. For feedstuffs and diets the correlation was 0.99 and 0.95 and the residual standard deviation 17 and 6 g kg?1 dry matter, respectively. In a similar procedure the nitrogen solubilised during incubation with enzymes was analysed. The regression value was similar to that of the original procedure. However, this procedure was abandoned because it was more laborious.  相似文献

Strongly swirling nonpremixed flames are known to exhibit a hysteresis when transiting from an attached long, sooty, yellow flame to a short lifted blue flame, and vice versa. The upward transition (by increasing the air and fuel flow rates) corresponds to a vortex breakdown, i.e. an abrupt change from an attached swirling flame (unidirectional or with a weak bluff-body recirculation), to a lifted flame with a strong toroidal vortex occupying the bulk of the flame. Despite dramatic differences in their structures, mixing intensities and combustion performance, both flame types can be realised at identical flow rates, equivalence ratio and swirl intensity. We report here on comprehensive investigations of the two flame regimes at the same conditions in a well-controlled experiment in which the swirl was generated by the rotating outer pipe of the annular burner air passage. Fluid velocity measured with PIV (particle image velocimetry), the qualitative detection of reaction zones from OH PLIF (planar laser-induced fluorescence) and the temperature measured by CARS (coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy) revealed major differences in vortical structures, turbulence, mixing and reaction intensities in the two flames. We discuss the transition mechanism and arguments for the improved mixing, compact size and a broader stability range of the blue flame in comparison to the long yellow flame.  相似文献

This paper presents new time‐dependent finite element shape functions suitable for modeling high‐gradient transient conductive heat flow in geothermal systems. The shape functions are made adaptive by enhancing the approximation functions with time‐dependent variables, which may vary according to the transient process without adding extra degrees of freedom or applying mesh adaptation. Two different approaches are presented. First, an iterative method is proposed, in which an exponential approximation function, which is optimized continually during the transient process, is incorporated in the shape function. Second, an analytical method is suggested, in which an analytical solution of a simplified process is incorporated in the shape function, enabling an explicit update of the shape functions in each time step. A methodology for modeling the variation of temperature in one and two dimensions is introduced. The ability of the method to capture high‐gradient temperature profiles using relatively large elements is illustrated with numerical examples of cases in which equally large standard finite elements fail.
