Examined the sensory preconditioning (SPC) analogs to UCS and CS intensity in 2 experiments with male hooded rats (N= 144). In Exp. I, Ss received S1-S2 (light and tone, counterbalanced) pairings with 1 of 3 different intensities of S2, followed by conditioned emotional response (CER) training to S2. Suppression of drinking by S1 (SPC groups) and S2 (CER groups) was tested. Amount of SPC was not significantly affected by S2 intensity, but the strength of the CER was an increasing function of S2 (CS) intensity. In Exp. II, amount of SPC was a monotonically increasing function of S1 intensity. Results are interpreted in terms of the similarities and differences between SPC and classical conditioning. Conducted discrimination eyelid conditioning at 2 UCS intensities under inhibitory, neutral, and facilitatory instructional sets, in a experiment involving 144 undergraduates in 6 groups. Instructional set yielded receiver operating characteristic curves that were reasonably straight lines on a normal deviate plot. The tentative conclusion from signal-detection theory of an equal discriminability function across instructional sets was contrasted with 4 indices of discrimination, indicating significant but mutually contradictory changes in discrimination as a function of instructional set. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α is a pleiotropic cytokine implicated in the etiology of several autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). TNF-α regulates diverse effector functions through the activation of TNF-α receptor (TNFR)1 and TNFR2. Although the detrimental role of this cytokine has been addressed in distinct disease settings, the effects of TNF-α on cytokine production by isolated CD4+ T helper type 1 (Th1) and Th17 cells, two T cell subpopulations that contribute to the pathogenesis of RA, have not been completely elucidated. Here, we show that TNF-α promotes a reduction and expansion in the frequency of both T cell subsets producing IFN-γ and IL-17, respectively. Selective blockade of TNFR1 or TNFR2 on Th1 and Th17 cells revealed that TNFR2 mediates the decrease in IFN-γ production, while signaling through both receptors augments IL-17 production. We also demonstrate that Th1, but not Th17 cells from RA patients present lower levels of TNFR1 compared to healthy controls, whereas TNFR2 expression on both T cell types is similar between patients and controls. Since TNF-α receptors levels in RA patients are not significantly changed by the therapeutic blockade of TNF-α, we propose that targeting TNFR2 may represent an alternative strategy to normalize the levels of key cytokines that contribute to RA pathogenesis.  相似文献

A shadowgraph and a new fuel injection system were used to study kerosene transversely injected into a supersonic flow. High pressure and velocity of injection can be attained. The pressure time histories were detected in oil-line and the shadowgraphs of the flow field were obtained at different time-delays. The inflow stagnation pressure was varied to change the local flow speed in test section. The results indicate that kerosene jet exhibits deep penetration and four regimes appear clearly during the fuel jet atomization in a high-speed flow. The jet disintegration is caused by surface waves propagating along the jet surface, and the breakup point is located at the wave trough. The surface waves are dominantly generated by aerodynamic force. The jet shock is close to windward surface of the jet. The shock reflects on and transmits in duct boundary layers. A series of noncyclic acetal-linked cleavable surfactants were simply prepared by condensation of aldehydes with poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ethers. All of the products were characterized by1H nuclear magnetic resonance. Their hydrophile-lipophile balance, surface tension, cloud point, critical micelle concentration, and foam height were determined. Hydrolysis kinetic studies, followed by gas chromatography, showed that they had higher hydrolytic reactivity in acidic solution than cyclic acetal-linked cleavable surfactants.  相似文献

Visually impaired individuals often rely on assistive technologies such as white canes for independent navigation. Many electronic enhancements to the traditional white cane have been proposed. However, only a few of these proof-of-concept technologies have been tested with authentic users, as most studies rely on blindfolded non-visually impaired participants or no testing with participants at all. Experiments involving blind users are usually not contrasted with the traditional white cane. This study set out to compare an ultrasound-based electronic cane with a traditional white cane. Moreover, we also compared the performance of a group of visually impaired participants (N = 10) with a group of blindfolded participants without visual impairments (N = 31). The results show that walking speed with the electronic cane is significantly slower compared to the traditional white cane. Moreover, the results show that the performance of the participants without visual impairments is significantly slower than for the visually impaired participants. No significant differences in obstacle detection rates were observed across participant groups and device types for obstacles on the ground, while 79% of the hanging obstacles were detected by the electronic cane. The results of this study thus suggest that electronic canes present only one advantage over the traditional cane, namely in its ability to detect hanging obstacles, at least without prolonged practice. Next, blindfolded participants are insufficient substitutes for blind participants who are expert cane users. The implication of this study is that research into digital white cane enhancements should include blind participants. These participants should be followed over time in longitudinal experiments to document if practice will lead to improvements that surpass the performance achieved with traditional canes.
