Interactions among asphalt components have significant effects on the performance of asphalt binder. To understand those interactions, four asphalts, SHRP AAA-I, AAD-I, AAF-I, and AAG-I, were fractionated into three generic fractions according to Corbett's procedure and reblended into asphaltenes/aromatics/saturates ternary mixtures in various ratios. Mixtures were oxidatively aged with atmospheric air at temperatures of 87.7, 93.3, and 98.8°C for 5 to 33 days. The changes in chemical composition and physical properties were monitored using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and dynamic mechanical rheometry

The formation of asphaltenes is a major factor in the hardening of asphalt with aging. The data collected in this study indicate that the saturate content in the maltene phase has a profound impact on the contribution that asphaltenes have on the viscosity of aged asphalt. The data also suggest that the aromatics fraction is solely responsible for the formation of asphaltenes as an asphalt oxidizes.  相似文献

We examined 59 breast cancers for p53 and bcl-2 protein expression by immunohistochemistry. The results were correlated with Ki-67 immunostaining. p53-negativity was noted in 40 cases and the remaining 19 tumours were p53-positive. Thirty-six tumours showed strong expression of bcl-2 and in 23 no staining for this protein was observed. We found statistically significant reverse correlation between expression of p53 and bcl-2 in majority of carcinomas: 31 cases were bcl-2 positive and p53-negative, and 14 tumours were bcl-2-negative and p53-positive. Six carcinomas showed no nuclear staining for Ki-67 and in the remaining 53 the percent of cancer cells positive for Ki-67 ranged from 1 to 60 (mean: 14.6). In these 53 cases we found that bcl-2-positive tumours were characterized by lower proliferation than bcl-2-negative tumours, the mean value of Ki-67 immunostaining being 10.7% and 23.0%, respectively. p53-negative tumours showed lower proliferation than p53-positive tumours: mean Ki-67 index was 10.2% and 23.9%, respectively. We conclude that immunohistochemically detected p53 and bcl-2 proteins show a significant inverse relationship in majority of breast carcinomas and their expression correlates with tumour proliferation (Ki-67 immunostaining).  相似文献

In the investigation of lower back stress, the muscle forces of the erector spinae and the rectus abdominis are often calculated using the two-dimensional biomechanical model. These muscle forces are used to estimate the compressive forces at L5/S1 disc. This paper presents a study of the muscle forces predicted by a two-dimensional biomechanical model during pushing and pulling and myoelectric activity from the corresponding muscles. The goal was to investigate whether a simple two muscle torso model would reasonably estimate the muscle actions in pushing and pulling tasks. Six subjects participated in the experiment. EMG (rms) value was used as an indicator of muscle forces. The results show high correlation between the predicted muscle forces and the measured root-mean-square EMG values in trunk pushing and pulling (r2 = 0.93) and hand pushing and pulling (r2 = 0.96) in an erect posture with hips braced but low in hand pushing and pulling using a free posture (r2 = 0.37).  相似文献

A multifactorial analysis was used to identify the dominant prognostic variables affecting survival from a computerized data base of 339 melanoma patients treated at this institution during the past 17 years. Five of the 13 parameters examined simultaneously were found to independently influence five year survival rates: 1) pathological stage (I vs II, p = 0.0014), 2) lesion ulceration (present vs absent, p = 0.006), 3) surgical treatment (wide excision vs wide excision plus lymphadenectomy, p = 0.024), 4) melanoma thickness (p = 0.032), and 5) location (upper extremity vs lower extremity vs trunk vs head and neck, p = 0.038). Additional factors considered that had either indirect or no influence on survival rates were clinical stage of disease, age, sex, level of invasion, pigmentation, lymphocyte infiltration, growth pattern, and regression. Most of these latter variables derived their prognostic value from correlation with melanoma thickness, except sex which correlated with location (extremity lesions were more frequent on females, trunk lesions on males). This statistical analysis enabled us to derive a mathematical equation for predicting an individual patient's probability of five year survival. Three categories of risk were delineated by measuring tumor thickness (Breslow microstaging) in Stage I patients: 1) thin melanomas (<0.76 mm) were associated with localized disease and a 100% cure rate: 2) intermediate thickness melanomas (0.76-4.00 mm) had an increasing risk (up to 80%) of harboring regional and/or distant metastases and 3) thick melanomas (>/=4.00 mm) had a 80% risk of occult distant metastases at the time of initial presentation. The level of invasion (Clark's microstaging) correlated with survival, but was less predictive than measuring tumor thickness. Within each of Clark's Level II, III and IV groups, there were gradations of thickness with statistically different survival rates. Both microstaging methods (Breslow and Clark) were less predictive factors in patients with lymph node or distant metastases. Clinical trials evaluating alternative surgical treatments or adjunctive therapy modalities for melanoma patients should incorporate these parameters into their assessment, especially in Stage I (localized) disease where tumor thickness and the anatomical site of the primary melanoma are dominant prognostic factors.  相似文献

Immunogenetic examination comprising determination of erythrocyte antigens (ABO systems and resus-factor) and leukocytes (HLA system) using hemagglutination and compliment-dependent cytotoxicity, respectively, was performed for 138 patients with chronic recurrent pancreatitis, 52 patients with chronic pancreatitis and 456 healthy subjects. Analysis of relations between the above antigens, the disease risk, clinical and laboratory parameters, readings of ultrasound histogram and the efficacy of treatment helped discover not only provoking and protecting genes, but also some pathogenetic mechanisms involved in genetic predisposition. These findings may be used in the choice of treatment policy and to upgrade the significance of prognosis of principal forms of chronic pancreatitis.  相似文献

Spontaneous language samples of 30 24-month-old toddlers diagnosed with Specific Expressive Language Impairment (SLI-E) were compared with samples produced by an age-matched group of 30 typically developing toddlers. Vocalization patterns, phonetic inventories, and syllable formation patterns were compared. Toddlers with SLI-E vocalized significantly less often than their typically developing peers, had proportionately smaller consonantal and vowel inventories, and used a more restricted and less mature array of syllable shapes. Although the mean incidence of phoneme usage varied significantly in all comparisons, profiles of consonant usage were similar between the two groups for initial phoneme usage, but considerably different for final consonant closure. Such patterns of vocal and phonetic behavior confirm earlier reports of phonetic delay in SLI-E, and suggest that nongrammatical factors contribute to the development of expressive language deficits in toddlers. We further propose a bidirectional model for the expressive deficits in SLI-E, in which the child's limited phonetic capacity interacts with propensities in caretaker interaction to further reduce opportunities for expressive language learning and practice.  相似文献

To examine the possible role of gap junctions in mouse skin tumor progression, we generated a panel of mouse skin tissue samples exhibiting normal, hyperplastic, or neoplastic changes and characterized the expression of the gap-junction genes connexin 43 (Cx43) and connexin 26 (Cx26) by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical analyses. In normal skin, these two gap junction genes were differentially expressed; Cx43 was found predominantly in the less differentiated lower spinous layers, whereas Cx26 was found in terminally differentiating upper spinous and granular layers. In hyperplastic epidermis exhibiting an expansion of the differentiated upper layer, i.e., epidermis with a thickened granular layer or in which the granular layer was replaced with keratinocytes exhibiting tricholemmal differentiation, expression of Cx43 and Cx26 remained segregated in the lower and upper spinous layers, respectively. However, in papillomas, Cx26 was localized in the lower but not upper spinous layer, an expression pattern identical to that of Cx43. In addition, the overall expression levels of both Cx43 and Cx26 appeared to be greatly elevated in the papillomas. It is interesting that such marked alteration in the pattern of Cx26 expression occurred within the context of hyperplastic changes histologically identical to those seen in the nonpapillomous hyperplasias. Interestingly, in neoplastic skin lesions containing a squamous cell carcinoma, Cx43 and Cx26 expression was extinguished. Moreover, expression of Cx43 was also significantly reduced in adjacent apparently nonneoplastic tissues. Overall, these observations show that perturbations in gap-junction gene expression are associated with skin hyperplasia and neoplasia. Such findings suggest a possible role for gap junctions in the malignant conversion of mouse epidermal cells.  相似文献
