Measurements have been made of the third-order nonlinear-optical susceptibilities of gaseous infrared saturable absorbers. These coefficients are relevant to mode locking of infrared lasers such as CO2 . The measurements are in good agreement with a theory based on a four-level model of the absorber. Earlier mode-locking observations are interpreted in light of the new data. The value of the transition moment and some other parameters of SF6 are deduced from the measurements. For SF6 atp = 1 torr, the third-order nonlinear coefficient is in the range1-10 times 10^{-23} C.m/V3, when interacting waves differ in frequency by less than the molecular collision frequency. We find that the average dipole transition moment for SF6 near theP(16) orP(20) lines of CO2 is approximately 0.1-0.2 Debye. The nonlinear coefficient of CH3 F is typically three orders of magnitude smaller than that of SF6 . 相似文献

This study assessed the extent of reproductive losses and associated genetic parameters in dairy cattle, using in-line milk progesterone records for 14 Swedish herds collected by DeLaval's Herd Navigator. A total of 330,071 progesterone samples were linked to 10,219 inseminations (AI) from 5,238 lactations in 1,457 Swedish Red and 1,847 Swedish Holstein cows. Pregnancy loss traits were defined as early embryonic loss (1–24 d after AI), late embryonic loss (25–41 d after AI), fetal loss (42 d after AI until calving), and total pregnancy loss (from d 1 after AI until calving). The following classical fertility traits were also analyzed: interval from calving to first service, interval from calving to last service, interval between first and last service, calving interval, and number of inseminations per service period. Least squares means with standard error (LSM ± SE), heritabilities, and genetic correlations were estimated in a mixed linear model. Fixed effects included breed, parity (1, 2, ≥3), estrus cycle number when the AI took place, and a linear regression on 305-d milk yield. Herd by year and season of AI, cow, and permanent environmental effect were considered random effects. Extensive (approximately 45%) early embryonic loss was found, but with no difference between the breeds. Swedish Red was superior to Swedish Holstein in the remaining pregnancy loss traits with, respectively: late embryonic loss of 6.1 ± 1.2% compared with 13.3 ± 1.1%, fetal loss of 7.0 ± 1.2% compared with 12.3 ± 1.2%, and total pregnancy loss of 54.4 ± 1.4% compared with 60.6 ± 1.4%. Swedish Red also had shorter calving to first service and calving to last service than Swedish Holstein. Estimated heritability was 0.03, 0.06, and 0.02 for early embryonic, late embryonic, and total pregnancy loss, respectively. Milk yield was moderately genetically correlated with both early and late embryonic loss (0.52 and 0.39, respectively). The pregnancy loss traits were also correlated with several classical fertility traits (?0.46 to 0.92). In conclusion, Swedish Red cows had lower reproductive loss during late embryonic stage, fetal stage, and in total, and better fertility than Swedish Holstein cows. The heritability estimates for pregnancy loss traits were of the same order of magnitude as previously reported for classical fertility traits. These findings could be valuable in work to determine genetic variation in reproductive loss and its potential usefulness as an alternative fertility trait to be considered in genetic or genomic evaluations. 相似文献

Discriminatory and robust typing methods are needed to improve the understanding of the dynamics of food-borne Campylobacter infections and epidemiology in primary animal production. To evaluate the strain discriminatory potential of typing methods, flaA short variable region (SVR) sequencing and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were applied on a collection of 102 epidemiologically related and unrelated Campylobacter jejuni strains. Previous application of FTIR spectroscopy for subtyping of Campylobacter has been limited. A subset of isolates, initially discriminated by flaA SVR sequencing, were further subjected to multilocus sequence typing (MLST). It was found that flaA SVR sequencing had a slightly higher discriminatory power than FTIR spectroscopy, based on the Simpson diversity index. The clustering of strains indicated that FTIR spectroscopy is indeed a suitable method for discrimination of Campylobacter. The isolates were assigned to six clusters based on flaA SVR sequences and nine clusters based on the FTIR spectroscopy profiles. Furthermore, the cluster analysis of flaA SVR sequences, MLST, and FTIR spectroscopy profiles showed a high degree of congruence, assigning the isolates to similar cluster structures. In conclusion, FTIR spectroscopy can be applied for subtyping of Campylobacter, and the high discriminatory potential of both flaA SVR sequencing and FTIR spectroscopy render them suitable screening methods for large numbers of strains. 相似文献

Elderberry juice was processed by pressing of 101 samples of elderberries (Sambucus nigra L.) picked in Austria, England and Denmark at optimum maturity. Taste panels trained in determination of elderberry flavour evaluated the juices and the results from the sensory evaluation were correlated to the content of volatile compounds. The volatile compounds were isolated from elderberry juices by dynamic headspace technique and analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS. A total of 59 volatile compounds were identified, 9 of which have not previously been detected in elderberry products. A total of 53 compounds occurred in quantifiable amounts and significant differences among the investigated elderberry samples were observed for 50 compounds. The importance of the isolated volatile compounds to elderberry flavour was determined by classical factor analysis using the results from the sensory evaluation and information on the odour of the individual volatile compounds. Classical factor analysis were used including determination of eigenvalues, factor loadings and factor scores by varimax rotation of standardised variables for extraction of four non correlated factors (principal components) explaining approximately 73% of the variation in elderberry flavour. Twenty-eight volatile compounds and sensory quality were included in the four factors. Using the compounds with highest numerical values (loadings) the four factors were named: fresh-elderberry-elder flower (35.2%), fresh-fruity-sweet (17.3%), fresh-fruity (13.7%) and green-floral-fruity (6.7%). A test method is described and experimental data are presented which compare formaldehyde emissions from edges and surfaces of particleboards. Surface emissions from boards of different structures and resins are also presented. Porosity of particleboards was measured and related to formaldehyde emission. It was found that porosity of the board is a major controlling factor in formaldehyde emission.
