Physiological compliance (PC) refers to the correlation between physiological measures of team members over time. The goals of this study were to examine ways of measuring PC in heart rate variability (HRV) data and the relationship between PC and team performance. Teams were tasked with entering both real and simulated rooms and “shooting” individuals with a weapon and identifying individuals without a weapon. The linear correlation and directional agreement PC methods were shown to be the most sensitive to differences in performance, with greater PC being associated with better performance. The correlation method when applied to a measure of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) revealed a significant difference between high and low performers (t[8] = −2.31, p = 0.03) and the directional agreement applied to inter-beat-intervals and RSA revealed trend-level differences (t[4.62] = −1.86, p = 0.06 and t[8] = −1.68, p = 0.07). These results suggest that PC may have merit for predicting team performance.  相似文献

Markram and Tsodyks, by showing that the elevated synaptic efficacy observed with single-pulse long-term potentiation (LTP) measurements disappears with higher-frequency test pulses, have critically challenged the conventional assumption that LTP reflects a general gain increase. This observed change in frequency dependence during synaptic potentiation is called redistribution of synaptic efficacy (RSE). RSE is here seen as the local realization of a global design principle in a neural network for pattern coding. The underlying computational model posits an adaptive threshold rather than a multiplicative weight as the elementary unit of long-term memory. A distributed instar learning law allows thresholds to increase only monotonically, but adaptation has a bidirectional effect on the model postsynaptic potential. At each synapse, threshold increases implement pattern selectivity via a frequency-dependent signal component, while a complementary frequency-independent component nonspecifically strengthens the path. This synaptic balance produces changes in frequency dependence that are robustly similar to those observed by Markram and Tsodyks. The network design therefore suggests a functional purpose for RSE, which, by helping to bound total memory change, supports a distributed coding scheme that is stable with fast as well as slow learning. Multiplicative weights have served as a cornerstone for models of physiological data and neural systems for decades. Although the model discussed here does not implement detailed physiology of synaptic transmission, its new learning laws operate in a network architecture that suggests how recently discovered synaptic computations such as RSE may help produce new network capabilities such as learning that is fast, stable, and distributed.  相似文献

The relationship between sodium nitrite level and pinking was investigated in cooked meats, as measured by panel color score, acetone extraction of NO-hemochrome, and instrumental redness values. Beef was less susceptible than poultry breast meat to nitrite-induced pinking. Minimum sodium nitrite level for pinking was 14, 4, 2, and 1 ppm for beef round, pork shoulder, turkey breast, and chicken breast, respectively. By regression analysis, minimum ppm nitrite for pinking=0.092 (ppm total pigment)+0.53 (R(2)=0.99). High levels of nitrate (>250 ppm as sodium nitrate) and nitrite (>45 ppm as sodium nitrite) were found in direct-dried (DD) soy isolates. Chicken breast rolls formulated with >2% DD soy were pink, but control rolls with 156 ppm sodium nitrate were not pink. Thus, it was concluded that nitrite was the primary pinking agent in DD soy. Indirect-dried (ID) soy isolates contained <11 ppm sodium nitrite, which was insufficient for pinking in poultry rolls.  相似文献

One of the main causes of failure of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bypass grafts used in the lower limbs is the development of myointimal hyperplasia (MIH). Clinical studies show that higher patency rates can be obtained with the use of an autologous vein cuff (the Miller cuff) interposed between the graft and artery. The reasons for the improved performance are still unclear, but preliminary studies suggest that the change in local haemodynamics due to the cuff geometry may be the significant factor rather than the presence of autologous material. If this is the case, then PTFE grafts can be produced with an integral cuff, i.e. a precuffed graft, with similar haemodynamic patterns to that of the Miller cuff. In this paper, two different types of precuffed graft are presented and their flow patterns are compared with those recorded in the Miller cuff and the conventional end-to-side anastomosis. The haemodynamic studies were carried out using optically clear silicone rubber models under simulated in vivo pulsatile flow conditions. Flow structures similar to those observed in the Miller cuff were seen in the precuffed grafts.  相似文献

Previously we demonstrated that the conductometric determination of anions of weak acids in chemically suppressed ion chromatography could be enhanced, by conversion of the acid to a conjugate salt, if the anion was present above what we termed the critical point concentration (CPC). In this paper we have developed a simple theoretical model for the calculation of CPCs for weak acid/conjugate salt pairs. The CPC was found to be dependent on the acid ionization constant K(a) and the molar ionic conductivities (MICs) of the ions present. For monovalent anions with a MIC in the common range 25-75 S cm(2) mol(-)(1), with sodium or potassium as cations, the CPCs could be estimated from the expression pC ≈ pK(a) - 1, where pC = -log CPC. For formate, benzoate, and acetate, excellent agreement was found between the calculated and experimental CPCs, with a mean deviation of 0.05 mM. For fluoride, the calculated and experimental CPCs were 7.4 and 9.2 mM, respectively. Experimental CPCs could not be determined for other anions as their calculated CPCs were below the detection limits of the IC system. The simple theoretical model could also be used to estimate the expected conductivity enhancement for the conversion of weak acid to a particular conjugate salt. The effects of detector linearity and dispersion in the IC system on the use of CPCs are also discussed.  相似文献

Complex traits are generally taken to be under the influence of multiple genes, which may interact with each other to confer susceptibility to disease. Statistical methods in current use for localizing such genes essentially work under single-gene models, either implicitly or explicitly. In genomic screens for complex disease genes, some of the marker loci must be in tight linkage with disease susceptibility genes. We developed a general multi-locus approach to identify sets of such marker loci. Our approach focuses on affected sib pair data and employs a nonparametric pattern recognition technique using artificial neural networks. This technique analyzes all markers simultaneously in order to detect patterns of locus interactions. When applied to previously published sib pair data on type I diabetes, our approach finds the same genes as in the published report in addition to some new loci. For a specific two-locus model of inheritance, the power of our approach is higher than that of the currently used analysis standard.  相似文献

The communication of results of HIV tests and chest-X-rays because of persistent coughing are of particular interest because potential life-threatening disease may be disclosed. For HIV tests it is recommended that the result is communicated to the patient in the doctor's office face to face. In this questionnaire study based on two simulated case-stories with a 63 year-old man referred to chest-X-rays because of persistent coughing, and a 27 year-old man, who had been living in Africa for some time, now wanting a HIV test performed, we found that only half (53%) of the general practitioners (GP) did communicate HIV test results in the consultation office. X-ray test results were only communicated in the consultation office by 18% of the GPs. Communication of test results which might have serious implications to the patient should preferably not be done by telephone. Patients should be told of potentially serious results in person by their own physician.  相似文献
