1. The use of Li pre-treatment in rats before high pressure oxygen exposure has been reported effective in controlling convulsions. This is an effect which is better demonstrated if exposure to oxygen follows shortly after Li injection than exposure following several hours later. 2. This study has investigated the hypothesis that the protective action of Li may be exerted, in the short term, by its removing ammonia from the blood and alleviating the latter's known toxic action. 3. A normal Li distribution time profile in unstressed rat brain and blood following intraperitoneal injection has been established. Brain and blood ammonia, amino acids and Li concentrations were also measured in Li-treated animals exposed and convulsed by oxygen. These measurements were made both shortly (15 min) and also several hours after (24 hr) Li treatment. Ammonia and amino acid values in Li-protected groups were compared to normal unstressed animal values and also to values in animals convulsed by oxygen unprotected by Li pre-treatment. 4. In rat brain abd blood significant (P less than 0-001) elevation of ammonia and glutamine and depression of gamma-amino butyric acid (brain only) and glutamate was noted following oxygen treatment in unprotected animals. Prior injection of Li 15 min before high pressure oxygen exposure delayed convulsions twice as long. Additionally if these animals were only exposed to oxygen for a period of time equal to that which would normally produce convulsions in unprotected animals, brain and blood ammonia and amino acids were maintained near to unstressed animal levels. Concomitantly, blood Li concentrations were considerably depressed below the values one would expect from the previously determined Li distribution time profile. 5. In rats exposed to high pressure oxygen 24 hr after Li treatment there was no protective action against high pressure oxygen convulsion, rather a potentiating effect for convulsion was seen. 6. These data present compelling evidence for the controlling effect of Li in rats, on rising blood ammonia concentration which occurs in high pressure oxygen exposure. The effect might well be due to the known chelating properties of Li with ammonia.  相似文献

Milk proteins including casein are sources of peptides with bioactivity. One of these peptides is beta-casomorphin (BCM) which belongs to a group of opioid peptides formed from β-casein variants. Beta-casomorphin 7 (BCM7) has been demonstrated to be enzymatically released from the A1 or B β-casein variant. Epidemiological evidence suggests the peptide BCM 7 is a risk factor for development of human diseases, including increased risk of type 1 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases but this has not been thoroughly substantiated by research studies. High performance liquid chromatography coupled to UV-Vis and mass spectrometry detection as well as enzyme–linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) has been used to analyze BCMs in dairy products. BCMs have been detected in raw cow's milk and human milk and a variety of commercial cheeses, but their presence has yet to be confirmed in commercial yoghurts. The finding that BCMs are present in cheese suggests they could also form in yoghurt, but be degraded during yoghurt processing. Whether BCMs do form in yoghurt and the amount of BCM forming or degrading at different processing steps needs further investigation and possibly will depend on the heat treatment and fermentation process used, but it remains an intriguing unknown.  相似文献

A multivariable missile autopilot is synthesized using an H approach. A tradeoff is achieved between performance, actuators solicitation and uncertainties in the actuators and bending modes dynamics. Robust stability and performance of the control law are then studied in the face of large real parametric aerodynamic uncertainties: computational techniques for real and mixed μ analysis (namely De Gaston and Safonov's, Dailey's, Jones’, Young and Doyle's, Fan, Tits and Doyle's and Safonov and Lee's methods) are briefly reviewed before being used to compute either the exact value, or an interval of the structured singular value (SSV). For small amounts of parameters, the upper and lower bounds provided by these methods are compared to the exact value, computed by De Gaston and Safonov's method. For larger amounts of parameters, NP hardness of the problem prohibits the use of algorithms which compute the exact value: these algorithms are indeed necessarily exponential-time. As an alternative in this case, the use of polynomial-time methods for computing upper and lower bounds leads in our examples to accurate approximates of the real and mixed structured singular values.  相似文献

Activity-based monitoring of cell-secreted proteases has gained significant interest due to the implication of these substances in diverse cellular functions. Here, we demonstrated a cell-based method of monitoring protease activity using fluorescent cell-permeable peptides. The activatable peptide consists of anionic (EEEE), cleavable, and cationic sequences (RRRR) that enable intracellular delivery by matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2), which is secreted by living cancer cells. Compared to HT-29 cells (MMP2-negative), HT-1080 cells (MMP2-positive) showed a strong fluorescence response to the short fluorescent peptide via cell-secreted protease activation. Our approach is expected to find applications for the rapid visualization of protease activity in living cells.  相似文献

The subfamily Geometrinae (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) includes many species called emerald moths. Based on our recent finding of novel polyenyl compounds, including a double bond at the 12-position from two geometrine species, Hemithea tritonaria and Thalassodes immissaria intaminata, (6Z,9Z,12Z)-6,9,12-trienes and (3Z,6Z,9Z,12Z)-3,6,9,12-tetraenes with a C17–C20 straight chain were synthesized and analyzed by GC-MS. The 6,9,12-trienes, which were prepared by a double Wittig reaction between two alkanals and an ylide derived from (Z)-1,6-diiodo-3-hexene, characteristically produced fragment ions at m/z 79, 150, and M–98. The 3,6,9,12-tetraenes, which were prepared by a coupling between (Z)-3-alkenal and an ylide derived from (3Z,6Z)-1-iodo-3,6-nonadiene, showed fragment ions at m/z 79, 148, and M–96. These diagnostic ions were useful to distinguish these compounds from other known polyenyl pheromones, such as 4,6,9- and 6,9,11-trienes and 1,3,6,9-tetraenes. With reference to the GC-MS data, pheromone extracts of other species in Geometrinae inhabiting the Iriomote Islands were analyzed, and the 6,9,12-trienes were identified in the pheromone gland extracts of Pamphlebia rubrolimbraria rubrolimbraria and Maxates versicauda microptera. Furthermore, a field evaluation of the synthetic polyenes in a mixed forest of Tokyo revealed the following new male attractants for emerald moths: Idiochlora ussuriaria by a C17 6,9,12-triene and Jodis lactearia by a C20 3,6,9,12-tetraene, indicating the characteristic chemical structures of Geometrinae pheromones. On the other hand, through reexamination of the pheromone extract of H. tritonaria, (3E,6E)-α-farnesene was identified as an electrophysiologically active component in addition to the C17 6,9,12-triene. The binary mixture attracted more males than the single component lure baited with the triene in the Iriomote Islands.  相似文献

In the present work, we report first results about a technology using a conjugated copolymer poly(5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone-co-5-hydroxy-2-carboxyethyl-1,4-naphthoquinone) acting both as immobilizing and transducing element for reagentless immunosensor, and its application for the detection of HPV infection. It was shown that the reagentless immunosensor was able to detect the interaction between antigenic peptide L1 from HPV-16 major capsid protein, a dominant epitope involved in viral infection as well as in prophylactic vaccine, and the relevant antibody.  相似文献

Single-crystal SnO2 nanowires (NWs) were successfully synthesized and characterized as sensing materials for long-term NOx stability detection in environmental monitoring. Reproducible and selective growths of the SnO2 NWs on a patterned, 5 nm-thick gold catalyst coated on a SiO2/Si wafer as substrate were conducted by evaporating SnO powder source at 960 °C in a mixture of argon/oxygen ambient gas (Ar: 50 sccm/O2: 0.5 sccm). The as-obtained products were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering, and photoluminescence (PL). The SEM and HRTEM images revealed that the products are single-crystal SnO2 NWs with diameter and length ranges of 70 nm–150 nm and 10 μm–100 μm, respectively. The three observed Raman peaks at 476, 633, and 774 cm−1 indicated the typical rutile phase, which is in agreement with the XRD results. The NWs showed stable PL with an emission peak centered at around 620 nm at room-temperature, indicating the existence of oxygen vacancies in the NW samples. The electrical properties of synthesized SnO2 NWs sensor were also investigated and it exhibited a negative temperature coefficient of resistance in the measured range (300–525 K). The calculated activation energy Ec of SnO2 NWs was 0.186 eV. Moreover, the SnO2 NW sensors exhibited good response to NOx gas. The response of the sensors to 5 ppm NOx reached 105% at an operating temperature of 200 °C.  相似文献

Presented here is an investigation of the structure–property relationships of crosslinked networks using three bi-functional glycidyl ether aromatic epoxy resins, two bi-aryl and one tri-aryl, cured with bi- and tri-aryl amines. Subtle changes to the monomer chemistry including changing aromatic substitution patterns from meta to para, methylene to isopropyl and isopropyl to ether were explored. Changing an epoxy resin backbone from methylene to isopropyl enhances backbone rigidity thus increasing glass transition temperature (Tg), yield strength, and strain despite reducing modulus. Changing meta-substitution to para increases Tg and yield strain while leaving strength unaffected and reducing modulus. Changing isopropyl linkages to ether reduces modulus, strength, Tg, and yield strain reflecting increased molecular flexibility. Using three instead of two aromatic rings increases the molecular weight between crosslinks thereby decreasing Tg and yield strain while increasing modulus and strength. Despite the complexities of multiple systems for varying epoxy resins and amine hardeners, the effect upon network properties is explained in terms of short- and long-range molecular and segmental mobility, crosslink density, and equilibrium packing density. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethanol steam reforming (ESR) is one of the potential processes to convert ethanol into valuable products. Hydrogen produced from ESR is considered as green energy for the future and can be an excellent alternative to fossil fuels with the aim of mitigating the greenhouse gas effect. The ESR process has been well studied, using transition metals as catalysts coupled with both acidic and basic oxides as supports. Among various reported transition metals, Ni is an inexpensive material with activity comparable to that of noble metals, showing promising ethanol conversion and hydrogen yields. Additionally, different promoters and supports were utilized to enhance the hydrogen yield and the catalyst stability. This review summarizes and discusses the influences of the supports and promoters of Ni-based catalysts on the ESR process.  相似文献

The alternative fuel, dimethyl ether (DME), which can be synthesized from natural gas, coal or biomass syngas, has been traditionally used as a diesel substitute or additive. DME purification processes with a conventional distillation sequence consume a large amount of energy. We used dividing wall columns (DWCs) to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the capital cost of the DME purification process. Various possible DWC arrangements were explored to find the potential benefits derived from thermally coupled distillations. The results show that utilizing DWCs can significantly reduce both the energy consumption and investment cost of the DME purification process. The lower energy consumption also results in the reduction of the CO2 emission.  相似文献
