The structural and optical properties of ultrathin Ge insertions in an Si matrix were studied. Transmission electron microscopy revealed the spontaneous formation of arrays of disk-shaped quantum dots (QDs) with a small lateral size (3–10 nm) at a nominal Ge insertion thicknesses, from submonolayer to nearly critical, for the transition to 3D growth by the Stranski-Krastanow mechanism. Optical study revealed type-I band alignment in these structures, which results from the strong contribution of the electron-hole Coulomb interaction overpowering the repulsion potential for an electron existing in the Ge conduction band. The small lateral size of QDs lifts the selection rule prohibiting indirect recombination in the inverse k space. At the same time, the high surface density of QDs (1012–1013 cm?2) and the possibility of their stacking with the use of ultrathin Si spacers allows the obtainment of an ultrahigh volume density of QDs (up to 1019 cm?3), which is necessary to achieve stimulated emission in Si. A sample with stacked QDs formed by 0.7-nm-thick Ge insertions exhibited a superlinear increase of the photoluminescence (PL) intensity, accompanied by narrowing of the PL line. The doping of Ge-Si structures with donors allows for a drastic increase in the PL intensity at high temperatures, which prevents depletion of the active region in weakly localized electrons.  相似文献

The Boreal and Tundra ecosystems of the mid to high latitudes are sensitive indicators of environmental impacts from both climate change and direct human activities. This study uses inter‐annual and inter‐seasonal SPOT‐VGT mosaics for recent years from 1998 to 2005 covering the entire boreal ecosystems of northern Eurasia. Linear trends could be detected in the NDVI and NDWI time series that differ by season, land‐cover type, and latitude. Significant positive NDVI trends are described for spring and related negative trends for NDWI over the boreal forest zone. They indicate an earlier onset of the vegetation green‐up. Similar vegetation dynamics can be described for autumn. The tundra ecosystems of the northern Eurasia latitudes exhibit trends of negative NDVI and positive NDWI. This may be explained by earlier snowmelt and increasing amounts of surface water from positive temperature anomalies. The non‐ambiguous coarse‐scale indicators require further detailed studies to identify driving factors and amount for positive feedbacks in boreal ecosystems.  相似文献

Differentiating the binding properties of applied lectins should facilitate the selection of lectins for characterization of glycoreceptors on the cell surface. Based on the binding specificities studied by inhibition assays of lectin-glycan interactions, over twenty Gal and/or GalNAc specific lectins have been divided into eight groups according to their specificity for structural units (lectin determinants), which are the disaccharide as all or part of the determinants and of GalNAc alpha 1-->Ser (Thr) of the peptide chain. A scheme of codes for lectin determinants is illustrated as follows: (1) F (GalNAc alpha 1-->3GalNAc), Forssman specific disaccharide--Dolichos biflorus (DBL), Helix pomatia (HPL) and Wistaria floribunda (WFL) lectins. (2) A (GalNAc alpha 1-->3 Gal), blood group A specific disaccharide--Codium fragile subspecies tomentosoides (CFT), Soy bean (SBL), Vicia villosa-A4 (VVL-A4), and Wistaria floribunda (WFL) lectins. (3) Tn (GalNAc alpha 1-->Ser (Thr) of the protein core)--Vicia villosa B4 (VVL-B4), Salvia sclarea (SSL), Maclura pomifera (MPL), Bauhinia purpurea alba (BPL) and Artocarpus integrifolia (Jacalin, AIL). (4) T (Gal beta 1-->3GalNAc), the mucin type sugar sequences on the human erythrocyte membrane(T alpha), T antigen or the disaccharides at the terminal nonreducing end of gangliosides (T beta)--Peanut (PNA), Bauhinia purpurea alba (BPL), Maclura pomifera (MPL), Sophora japonica (SJL), Artocarpus lakoocha (Artocarpin) lectins and Abrus precatorius agglutinin (APA).(5) I and II (Gal beta 1-->3(4)GlcNAc)--the disaccharide residue at the nonreducing end of the carbohydrate chains derived from either N- or O-glycosidic linkage--Ricinus communis agglutinin (RCA1), Datura stramonium (TAL, Thorn apple), Erythrina cristagalli (ECL, Coral tree), and Geodia cydonium (GCL). (6) B (Gal alpha 1-->3Gal), human blood group B specific disaccharide--Griffonia(Banderiaea) simplicifolia B4 (GSI-B4). The concentrations of the soluble adhesion molecules E-cadherin, E-selectin, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) were investigated in 45 patients with gastric cancer before treatment and their correlation with clinical, histological and routine laboratory parameters was examined. Data were collected on tumour stage at presentation, presence and sites of metastatic disease, tumour pathology, survival and results of routine laboratory tests. Serum concentrations of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 were significantly elevated in the patients with gastric cancer in comparison with the group of healthy subjects (P < 0.00001 and P < 0.0001 respectively). Increased serum concentrations of VCAM-1 were associated with locally advanced and metastatic disease whereas ICAM-1 was significantly elevated both in local and in advanced/metastatic disease. Soluble E-cadherin and E-selectin concentrations did not show any significant elevation in gastric cancer patients. Concentrations of soluble adhesion molecules showed significant correlation with each other (except E-selectin and VCAM-1) and with alkaline phosphatase. Soluble ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 were significantly associated with an elevated total white cell count. Patients with elevated VCAM-1 had significantly poorer survival in comparison with patients with normal serum levels (P = 0.0361).  相似文献

A mathematical model of the supercritical fluid extraction of oil from a polydisperse granular layer of milled oilseeds is proposed. An experiment on the extraction of a polydisperse layer of white lupin seeds with different realizations of the size distribution function of the grains was carried out. The results of the laboratory experiment were used for the adaptation of the mathematical model; a fair agreement between the calculated and experimental curves of the oil yield was achieved.  相似文献

Electric-spark ignition of flow of an aluminum particle-air mixture in a channel with a sudden expansion was studied experimentally using the model of hot-spot ignition. The activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) is essential for progression of cells from G1 to the S phase of the mammalian cell cycle. CVT-313 is a potent CDK2 inhibitor, which was identified from a purine analog library with an IC50 of 0.5 microM in vitro. Inhibition was competitive with respect to ATP (Ki = 95 nM), and selective CVT-313 had no effect on other, nonrelated ATP-dependent serine/threonine kinases. When added to CDK1 or CDK4, a 8.5- and 430-fold higher concentration of CVT-313 was required for half-maximal inhibition of the enzyme activity. In cells exposed to CVT-313, hyperphosphorylation of the retinoblastoma gene product was inhibited, and progression through the cell cycle was arrested at the G1/S boundary. The growth of mouse, rat, and human cells in culture was also inhibited by CVT-313 with the IC50 for growth arrest ranging from 1.25 to 20 microM. To evaluate the effects of CVT-313 in vivo, we tested this agent in a rat carotid artery model of restenosis. A brief intraluminal exposure of CVT-313 to a denuded rat carotid artery resulted in more than 80% inhibition of neointima formation. These observations suggest that CVT-313 is a promising candidate for evaluation in other disease models related to aberrant cell proliferation.  相似文献

Automodulation oscillations in the intensity of a fiber laser in the regime of passive Q-switching based on resonance bending oscillations of a fiber segment representing an element of the laser cavity have been studied.
