Coupled electrothermal modeling of microheaters using SPICE 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper,,we report a novel simulation approach that computes both the transient and steady state electrothermal behavior in integrated circuit (IC) compatible thermally isolated microheaters. The resulting distribution of heat, current density and temperature, as well as the electrical terminal behavior have been obtained for realistic device structures. The results are based on a two-dimensional solution of the coupled system of partial differential equations that govern both electrical and heat transport in the device. Unlike standard numerical approaches for coupled systems, our technique is based on the behavioural models, available in most commercial circuit simulators (e.g., HSPICE), that allow synthesis of complex, nonlinear, and coupled circuit elements. The simulation results are in excellent agreement with measurement data of steady state and transient terminal characteristics, obtained under conditions of vacuum. The Finite Volume Particle Method (FVPM) is a meshless method based on a definition of interparticle area which is closely analogous to cell face area in the classical finite volume method. In previous work, the interparticle area has been computed by numerical integration, which is a source of error and is extremely expensive. We show that if the particle weight or kernel function is defined as a discontinuous top-hat function, the particle interaction vectors may be evaluated exactly and efficiently. The new formulation reduces overall computational time by a factor between 6.4 and 8.2. In numerical experiments on a viscous flow with an analytical solution, the method converges under all conditions. Significantly, in contrast with standard FVPM and SPH, error depends on particle size but not on particle overlap (as long as the computational domain is completely covered by particles). The new method is shown to be superior to standard FVPM for shock tube flow and inviscid steady transonic flow. In benchmarking on a viscous multiphase flow application, FVPM with exact interparticle area is shown to be competitive with a mesh-based volume-of-fluid solver in terms of computational time required to resolve the structure of an interface. 相似文献

To investigate sterol utilization in sawflies, the neutral sterols of four species of sawflies were determined by gas-liquid
chromatography and mass spectrometry, and compared to the respective dietary plant material. Cholesterol was the predominant
(55–76%) sterol in all species and stages of sawflies examined. Host plants, however, contained primarily sitosterol (50–88%),
along with other 24-alkylsterols and only 0.5–5.9% cholesterol, indicating that the sawflies examined are capable of dealkylating

Recent evidence suggests that I2-imidazoline ligands have neuroprotective properties in animal models of neurodegeneration, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We recently demonstrated that the I2-ligand BU224 reversed memory impairments in AD transgenic mice and this effect was not because of reductions in amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition. In this study, our aim was to determine the therapeutic potential of the powerful analgesic I2-imidazoline ligand CR4056 in the 5xFAD model of AD, since this ligand has been proven to be safely tolerated in humans. Sub-chronic oral administration of CR4056 (30 mg/kg for 10 days) led to an improvement in recognition memory in 6-month-old 5xFAD mice, but not in wild-type littermates, without affecting Aβ levels or deposition. Our results also revealed a change in the profile of microglia by CR4056, resulting in a suppression of pro-inflammatory activated microglia, but increased the density of astrocytes and the expression of ApoE, which is mainly produced by these glial cells. In addition, CR4056 restored fibrinogen extravasation, affecting the distribution of markers of astrocytic end feet in blood vessels. Therefore, these results suggest that CR4056 protects against Aβ-mediated neuroinflammation and vascular damage, and offers therapeutic potential at any stage of AD. 相似文献

Most in vitro iron mobilization studies from ferritin have been performed in aqueous buffered solutions using a variety of reducing substances. The kinetics of iron mobilization from ferritin in a medium that resembles the complex milieu of cells could dramatically differ from those in aqueous solutions, and to our knowledge, no such studies have been performed. Here, we have studied the kinetics of iron release from ferritin in fresh yeast cell lysates and examined the effect of cellular metabolites on this process. Our results show that iron release from ferritin in buffer is extremely slow compared to cell lysate under identical experimental conditions, suggesting that certain cellular metabolites present in yeast cell lysate facilitate the reductive release of ferric iron from the ferritin core. Using filtration membranes with different molecular weight cut-offs (3, 10, 30, 50, and 100 kDa), we demonstrate that a cellular component >50 kDa is implicated in the reductive release of iron. When the cell lysate was washed three times with buffer, or when NADPH was omitted from the solution, a dramatic decrease in iron mobilization rates was observed. The addition of physiological concentrations of free flavins, such as FMN, FAD, and riboflavin showed about a two-fold increase in the amount of released iron. Notably, all iron release kinetics occurred while the solution oxygen level was still high. Altogether, our results indicate that in addition to ferritin proteolysis, there exists an auxiliary iron reductive mechanism that involves long-range electron transfer reactions facilitated by the ferritin shell. American culture is filled with cultural products. Yet few studies have investigated how changes in cultural products correspond to changes in psychological traits and emotions. The current research fills this gap by testing the hypothesis that one cultural product—word use in popular song lyrics—changes over time in harmony with cultural changes in individualistic traits. Linguistic analyses of the most popular songs from 1980–2007 demonstrated changes in word use that mirror psychological change. Over time, use of words related to self-focus and antisocial behavior increased, whereas words related to other-focus, social interactions, and positive emotion decreased. These findings offer novel evidence regarding the need to investigate how changes in the tangible artifacts of the sociocultural environment can provide a window into understanding cultural changes in psychological processes. Typical polysilicon gate charge-coupled device (CCD) image sensors are unresponsive to ultraviolet (UV) light because of the high absorption of the radiation in polysilicon gate material, which leads to a short penetration depth (<2 nm), and absorption of the radiation in the gate material rather than within the channel of the CCD. An inorganic phosphor coating to convert the UV radiation to visible has been developed. Although the coating is similar to acrylics doped with organic laser dyes reported previously, in this work the organic dye has been replaced with a more robust inorganic phosphor. In addition, a new deposition method has been developed to improve the photoresponse nonuniformity (PRNU) of the coated sensor. The inorganic phosphor has been selected over organic laser dyes because organic molecules degrade rapidly upon exposure to UV radiation, with exponential degradation rates as high as 3% per hour at an illumination level of 1 /spl mu/W/cm/sup 2/. Inorganic phosphors exhibit reduced degradation with 90% of the degradation occurring within the first 2% of the material's lifetime. It is this stabilization that improves the viability of phosphor-coated CCD image sensors for commercial applications. The quantum efficiency observed was 12% at 265 nm. The improved deposition technique reduced the photoresponse nonuniformity degradation fourfold, so the observed PRNU was only 0.4 times greater than that of the uncoated sensor. 相似文献

Thin-film Bi2Te3- and Sb2Te3-based superlattice (SL) thermoelectric (TE) devices are an enabling technology for high-power and low-temperature applications,
which include low-noise amplifier cooling, electronics hot-spot cooling, radio frequency (RF) amplifier thermal management,
and direct sensor cooling. Bulk TE devices, which can pump heat loads on the order of 10 W/cm2, are not suitable in these applications due to their large size and low heat pumping capacity. Recently, we have demonstrated
an external maximum temperature difference, ΔT
max, as high as 58 K in an SL thin-film p–n couple. This state-of-the-art couple exhibited a cold-side minimum temperature, T
cmin, of −30.9°C. We regularly attain ΔT
max values in excess of 53 K, in spite of the many significant electrical and thermal parasitics that are unique to thin-film
devices. These measurements do not use any complex thermal management at the heat sink to remove the heat flux from the TE
device’s hot side. We describe here multistage SL cooling technologies currently being developed at RTI that can provide useful
microcooling cold-side temperatures of 200 K. This effort includes a three-stage module employing independently powered stages
which produced a ΔT
max of 101.6 K with a T
cmin of −75°C, as well as a novel two-wire three-stage SL cascade which demonstrated a T
cmin of −46°C and a ΔT
max of nearly 74 K. These RTI modules are only 2.5 mm thick, significantly thinner than a similar commercial three-stage module
(5.3 mm thick) that produces a ΔT
max of 96 K. In addition, TE coolers fabricated from these thin-film SL materials perform significantly better than the extrapolated
