We explore the phase behavior of Helium films on two variants of graphene: graphane (graphene coated with H, denoted GH) and graphene–fluoride (GF). A semiempirical interaction with these substrates is used in T=0 K Path Integral Ground State and finite temperature Path Integral Monte Carlo simulations. We predict that 4He forms anisotropic fluid states at low coverage. This behavior differs qualitatively from that on graphite because of the different surface composition, symmetry and spacing of the adsorption sites. The 4He ground state on both substrates is thus a self-bound anisotropic superfluid with a superfluid fraction ρ s /ρ lower than 1 due to the corrugation of the adsorption potential. In the case of GF such corrugation is so large that ρ s /ρ=0.6 at T=0 K and the superfluid is essentially restricted to move in a multiconnected space, along the bonds of a honeycomb lattice. We predict a superfluid transition temperature T? 0.25 (1.1) K for 4He on GF (GH). We have studied the elementary excitation spectrum of 4He on GF at equilibrium density finding a phonon–maxon–roton dispersion relation that is strongly anisotropic in the roton region. We conclude that these new platforms for adsorption studies offer the possibility of studying novel superfluid phases of quantum condensed matter.  相似文献

The microstructure and preferred orientations of rapid thermally annealed Pb(Zr0.53,Ti0.47)O3 films, deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si electrode/substrates by solution-gel spinning, have been investigated using analytical and high-resolution electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The temperature of pyrolysis of the PZT films was found to influence the preferred orientation of the film: lower temperatures (350°C) favored a (111) orientation, whereas higher temperatures (420°C) favored a (100) orientation. Excess Pb was used to control the A-site stoichiometry of the film particularly at the film surface where Pb-deficient crystals could often be observed. The absence of these crystals was shown to be correlated with an improvement in the dielectric response.  相似文献

Memory ability declines in older age groups. There is a growing list of physiological processes that target the hippocampal formation in an age-related fashion, and some might underlie the hippocampal component of memory decline. The hippocampal formation is comprised of separate subregions, and physiological processes differentially target these subregions. The ability to evaluate the functional integrity of individual subregions-performing subregional analysis-is a major clinical goal since it can aid in the diagnosis of memory decline, as well as in elucidating mechanisms of disease and testing potential interventions. Because of its superior spatial resolution, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is best suited to accomplish this goal. Despite limited success, most functional MRI (fMRI) protocols have difficulty in performing complete subregional analysis of the hippocampal formation. Here we address sources of difficulty by (1) generating T2* -weighted maps of the hippocampal formation with sub-millimeter resolution; and (2) by adapting an approach used by animal investigators to identify the hippocampal subregions using anatomical landmarks. The protocol is tested in patients with Alzheimer's disease and in healthy controls, in an effort to determine whether it can detect neuronal dysfunction. Results showed diminished signal in the hippocampal formation of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) compared to controls, and multivariate analysis showed that this difference was most prominent in the entorhinal cortex. The protocol can be used to perform subregional analysis of the hippocampal formation. Testing the protocol in other clinical populations is needed to demonstrate its efficacy in evaluating the neuronal integrity of all hippocampal subregions.  相似文献

The incidence of several respiratory viral infections has been shown to be related to climate. Because humans spend most of their time indoors, measures of indoor climate, rather than outdoor climate, may be better predictors of disease incidence and transmission. Therefore, understanding the relationship between indoor and outdoor climate will help illuminate their influence on the seasonality of diseases caused by respiratory viruses. Indoor-outdoor relationships between temperature and humidity have been documented in temperate regions, but little information is available for tropical regions, where seasonal patterns of respiratory viral diseases differ. We have examined indoor-outdoor correlations of temperature, relative humidity (RH), and absolute humidity (AH) over a 1-year period in each of seven tropical cities. Across all cities, the average monthly indoor temperature was 25 ± 3°C (mean ± standard deviation) with a range of 20–30°C. The average monthly indoor RH was 66 ± 9% with a range of 50–78%, and the average monthly indoor AH was 15 ± 3 g/m3 with a range of 10–23 g/m3. Indoor AH and RH were linearly correlated with outdoor AH when the air conditioning (AC) was off, suggesting that outdoor AH may be a good proxy of indoor humidity in the absence of AC. All indoor measurements were more strongly correlated with outdoor measurements as distance from the equator increased. Such correlations were weaker during the wet season, especially when AC was in operation. These correlations will provide insight for assessing the seasonality of respiratory viral infections using outdoor climate data, which is more widely available than indoor data, even though transmission of these diseases mainly occurs indoors.  相似文献

Some properties of the pure, soluble phospholipase D (phosphatidycholine phosphatido hydrolase, EC 3.1.4.4) interactions with phosphatidyl choline (1,2 diacyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphoryl choline) in a system also containing dodecylsulfate and Ca2+ ions were studied. Concentrations of Ca2+ greater than 50 mM were necessary both for activity and adsorption of the enzyme to the “supersubstrate.” Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid caused inhibition of activity, greater than one would expect from its chelating capacity. A nonlinear increase in activity with the increase of enzyme protein was observed, suggesting a subunit aggregation into a higher mol wt protein, catalytically more active. Upon centrifugation of the supersubstrate-enzyme complex at 4.5×105 g·min at 30 C, most of the substrate molecules sedimented regardless of the pH. The reverse was true when centrifugation was done at 1 C. Phospholipase D hydrolyzed phosphatidylcholine molecules present in the supersubstrate at temperatures around 0 C at a rate 1/5 that of a maximal value measured at 30C. The Arrhenius plot was linear in the range from 0 to 30 C, and at that temperature the curve broke with a smaller slope. Activation energy of 9.1 Kcal/mol, below 30 C, was calculated. Adsorption of the enzyme to the sedimentable supersubstrate occurred at pH 8.0, regardless of temperature. At pH 5.6, a considerable portion of phosphatidylcholine was degraded at 30 C, thus minimizing the capacity of the supersubstrate to adsorb the enzyme. Although Mg2+ could replace Ca2+ in the formation of sedimentable supersubstrate, it neither assists in adsorption of the enzyme nor in activation of the phosphatidylcholine hydrolysis.  相似文献
