Hemicyanine dyes are an extensively investigated group of materials which show promise for second-order non-linear optical properties; they have also proved to be good materials for deposition by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. This work concerns a closely related group of materials which contain a thiophene moiety in place of the nitrogen heterocycle of the hemicyanine material. The synthesis of several groups of novel amphiphiles containing the thiophene moiety, and their subsequent screening as materials for deposition by the Langmuir Blodgett technique is described. General trends in the behaviour of the simplest materials are noted, whilst the report of the characterization of the more complex D--A thiophenes is extended to include data relating to the production of heterogeneous monolayer and alternate layer structures. 相似文献

Quantum games with incomplete information can be studied within a Bayesian framework. We consider a version of prisoner’s dilemma (PD) in this framework with three players and characterize the Nash equilibria. A variation of the standard PD game is set up with two types of the second prisoner and the first prisoner plays with them with probability p and \(1-p\), respectively. The Bayesian nature of the game manifests in the uncertainty that the first prisoner faces about his opponent’s type which is encoded either in a classical probability or in the amplitudes of a wave function. Here, we consider scenarios with asymmetric payoffs between the first and second prisoner for different values of the probability, p, and the entanglement. Our results indicate a class of Nash equilibria (NE) with rich structures, characterized by a phase relationship on the strategies of the players. The rich structure can be exploited by the referee to set up rules of the game to push the players toward a specific class of NE. These results provide a deeper insight into the quantum advantages of Bayesian games over their classical counterpart. 相似文献

In 1960, a large global chemical company began documenting and implementing requirements for preventing injuries from electric arc flash hazards, including appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Methods evolved from requiring a 100% natural fiber long-sleeve shirt for a specific task to a detailed analysis with multiple flame-resistant clothing options. This paper compares the PPE required by these methods, based on hazards analysis in more than 65 manufacturing and laboratory facilities. Poloxamer 407 and poloxamine 908 have been used by many research groups to modify the surface of both model latex and biodegradable nanospheres, thereby producing nanospheres that have shown reduced protein adsorption in vitro and extended circulation times in vivo. A potential limitation of such systems is the desorption of the copolymer coating layer. We describe a two-stage process to radiolabel poloxamer 407 and poloxamine 908 that has facilitated an investigation into this potential desorption, in vitro. The first stage of the labeling procedure involved the substitution of the terminal hydroxyl groups in each poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) chain of poloxamer 407 and poloxamine 908 with an amino group. The aminated copolymers were then radiolabeled with 125Iodine Bolton-Hunter reagent. The efficiency of labeling was calculated to be approximately 20% for the tetramine poloxamine 908 and approximately 33% for the diamine poloxamer 407. Remaining free amino groups were then either acetylated, using acetic anhydride, or left in the free amino form. Covalent linkage of the radiolabel to the copolymer was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The stability of the link between radiolabel and copolymer to hydrolysis was also confirmed; <4% loss of radiolabel occurred from poloxamine 908 after incubation in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at 37 degrees C for 8 days. The radiolabeled copolymers (with the free amino groups acetylated) were then used in experiments that have given the first direct evidence that adsorbed copolymers can be displaced by serum proteins in significant amounts from the surface of model and biodegradable nanospheres. The displacement was highly dependent on copolymer-nanosphere compatibility, with up to 78% of 125I tetramine poloxamine 908 being displaced from poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanospheres in 24 h, compared with 20% displacement of 125I tetramine poloxamine 908 in 24 h from polystyrene nanospheres. The practice of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can significantly increase a website’s search rankings, driving more traffic to the website, and thereby increasing revenue. Three primary SEO strategies are Content, Link Building, and Social Sharing. Our study compares the performance of three similar content-rich websites; each uses a different SEO strategy – one focused on Content only, the second uses Content and proactive Link Building, and the third uses Content and Social Media campaign designed to elicit social mentions and social sharing. We use Google Analytics to collect, analyze, and compare their site traffic, domain authority, search ranks, and ad revenue before and after SEO implementation, over the course of 18 months. Our study suggests that link building and social media both improve website traffic and revenue. Social media can be an effective method for quickly building traffic (for events); however, link building provides better return on investment in the long run. 相似文献

The Maxim's Electron Scatter Chamber (Maxim Chamber) was developed to obtain uniform dose distribution when applying electron beam (e-beam) irradiation to materials of irregular surface. This was achieved by placing a stainless steel mesh surrounding a cylindrical area where the target sample was placed. Upon contact with the mesh, electrons scatter and are directed onto the target from multiple angles, eliminating the e-beam linearity and resulting in a uniform dose distribution over the target surface. The effect of irradiation in the Maxim Chamber on dose distribution and pathogen reduction was tested on rabbit carcasses to simulate other larger carcasses. The dose uniformity ratio (DUR) on the rabbit carcasses was 1.8, indicating an acceptable dose distribution. On inoculated carcasses, this treatment reduced Escherichia coli O157:H7 by > 5 log cycles. These results indicate that carcass irradiation using e-beam is feasible using the Maxim's electron scattering chamber. Appropriate adjustments will be further needed for commercial application on beef and other animal carcasses. 相似文献

Lanthanum erbium carbide, La0.5Er0.5C2, a salt-like carbide with a cubic fluorite phase structure, has been produced from 13C, allowing carbon diffusion rate to be determined using 12C. Carbon in salt-like carbides exhibits significant ionicity, and a high carbon diffusion rate would enable a new class of
high temperature fuel cells based on carbon-ion transport. The complete lack of carbon diffusion data for salt-like carbides
is the motivation for this work. The carbon diffusion rate in La0.5Er0.5C2 has now been determined to be 2.0 ± 0.8 × 10−13 cm2/s at 850 °C, increasing to 1.8 ± 0.8 × 10−11 cm2/s at 1150 °C, with an activation energy of about 95 kJ/mole. These diffusion rates are too low for a carbon-ion fuel cell,
but a number of other salt-like carbides exist. Be2C, in particular, is a salt-like carbide with an antifluorite structure, and should have higher carbon-ion diffusion than
cubic La0.5Er0.5C2 due to the unoccupied octahedral sites in the antifluorite structure, but Be2C presents special difficulties due to the toxic nature of its hydrolysis products. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to see whether the social environment of the church is associated with changes in feelings of gratitude toward God over time. The theoretical thrust of the authors’ analyses is captured in the following conceptual linkages: (a) People who attend church frequently are more likely to believe that their congregation is highly cohesive; (b) individuals who worship in more cohesive congregations will receive more emotional support from fellow church members; (c) people who receive more emotional support from coreligionists will be more likely to feel they have a close spiritual connection with others; and (d) people who feel they are closely connected with other individuals will feel especially grateful to God.
