The use of high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) as templates to create highly porous materials (PolyHIPEs) is described. Polymerisation occurs around emulsion droplets, which create voids in the final material. The void fraction is very high and can reach levels of 0.99. Varying the emulsion composition can control features of the morphology of the resulting porous materials, such as the void diameter and degree of interconnection. Other parameters can also be varied, for example surface area can be increased from 3 to around 700 m2 g−1. Rubbery materials can be produced from hydrophobic elsatomers and PolyHIPEs with high thermo-oxidative stability are prepared from high performance materials such as poly(ether sulfone). The highly porous materials so produced are finding applications in areas such as solid supported organic chemistry, sensors, cell culturing and tissue engineering. 相似文献

We present results from the simulation of the electrothermal behaviour of submicron wurtzite GaN/AlGaN High Electron Mobility
Transistors (HEMTs). The simulator uses an iterative procedure which couples a Monte Carlo simulation with a fast Fourier
series solution of the Heat Diffusion Equation (HDE). The results demonstrate the dependence of the extent of the thermal
droop observed in the Ids-Vds characteristics and the device peak temperature on the device bias. The paper also investigates the effect of the inclusion

Cardiovascular and hormonal responses to a structured interview, an electronic video game, a cold pressor test, and exercise on a bicycle ergometer were assessed in 83 normotensive Black and White men and women (aged 25–44 yrs). Black Ss showed significantly greater diastolic blood pressure (DBP) responses than White Ss during the cold pressor test, which were not accounted for by an increase in plasma catecholamines. Exercise produced reliably greater systolic blood pressure (SBP) increases in Black women than in Black men or White women. Men showed significantly greater SBP and DBP changes than women during the video game. The pattern of physiological reactivity elicited by challenge may be related to the Ss' race and sex. Reported is the preparation of various condensed tannin stearates and the associated chemical characterization and thermal properties of these products. Stearate esters of condensed tannins from both quebracho and pine bark extracts were prepared in generally high, isolated yields from reaction with stearic acid chloride. Tannin esterification was confirmed by both Fourier transform infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and the average degree of stearate substitution was calculated from 1H‐NMR analysis. Product degree of substitution (DS) was observed to proportionately increase with higher stearic acid chloride ratio with maximum DS values of 4.0 and 5.1 achieved for quebracho and pine tannins, respectively. Thermal analysis revealed that tannin stearate products have increased thermal stability with a degradation onset at significantly higher temperature for those samples possessing relatively greater DS. Analysis using differential scanning calorimetry revealed isolated products to consist of multiple components which exhibit interesting melt behaviors, a likely result from their work up on isolation. However, multiple melt features of the individual components in products were lost on heating to give single, broad melt endotherms due to coalescence of sample components. Furthermore, tannin stearate samples with high DS show relatively greater endothermic melting at higher temperature than those samples with lower DS. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nitrate is known to accumulate under legume crops. The effects of legume crop, inoculation, row width, sowing rate, sowing
date, and intra-cropping with wheat, on the amount and soil distribution of mineral N, residual soil water, crop biomass and
crop N were studied at Wagga Wagga in south-east Australia. After removal of most of the above-ground plant material, the
treatment effects on the biomass, N content, grain yield and grain N of wheat, established in the following season, were also
measured. In a later experiment at Wagga, the recovery of 15N applied to the mid-row of lupin crops established at three row
widths was estimated at crop maturity. At Condobolin, row width effects on the soil distribution of mineral N, biomass, N
accumulation and N fixation of crop legumes and cereals, were determined. At physiological maturity, at Wagga Wagga, very
little nitrate was left beneath cereals. Significantly more was left under legume crops, mostly below 30 cm of soil depth,
and it was distributed differently depending on crop, inoculation, and sampling location. More nitrate was left under pea
and faba than under lupin, and in response to inoculation. Mixing wheat with narrow-leaf lupin did not prevent nitrate accumulation
in soil. For most of the legumes more nitrate was left in the mid-row than in the in-row; and more nitrate was left at the
mid-row of lupin crops sown with wider rows. The additional nitrate left with wider rows increased the growth, N content,
grain yield and protein of wheat established in the following season. 15N labelled nitrate applied mid-row was used less effectively
by lupin as row width increased, in a dry season. At Condobolin, lupin established with wide rows used less soil nitrate than
with narrower rows but maintained crop N by increased N fixation. In contrast, field pea maintained N demand by increasing
nitrate uptake at intermediate row spacing. The study shows that the amount of nitrate accumulated in soil during legume cropping
is susceptible to agronomic management, particularly crop selection, row width and inoculation; and that variation in the
amount of this nitrate may carry forward to impact wheat production in the follow-on season. 相似文献

Adenosine is undoubtedly an ancient biological molecule that is a component of many enzyme cofactors: ATP, FADH, NAD(P)H, and coenzyme A, to name but a few, and, of course, of RNA. Here we present an overview of the role of adenosine in its most reactive form: as an organic radical formed either by homolytic cleavage of adenosylcobalamin (coenzyme B12, AdoCbl) or by single‐electron reduction of S‐adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) complexed to an iron–sulfur cluster. Although many of the enzymes we discuss are newly discovered, adenosine's role as a radical cofactor most likely arose very early in evolution, before the advent of photosynthesis and the production of molecular oxygen, which rapidly inactivates many radical enzymes. AdoCbl‐dependent enzymes appear to be confined to a rather narrow repertoire of rearrangement reactions involving 1,2‐hydrogen atom migrations; nevertheless, mechanistic insights gained from studying these enzymes have proved extremely valuable in understanding how enzymes generate and control highly reactive free radical intermediates. In contrast, there has been a recent explosion in the number of radical‐AdoMet enzymes discovered that catalyze a remarkably wide range of chemically challenging reactions; here there is much still to learn about their mechanisms. Although all the radical‐AdoMet enzymes so far characterized come from anaerobically growing microbes and are very oxygen sensitive, there is tantalizing evidence that some of these enzymes might be active in aerobic organisms including humans. 相似文献
