Complex and highly distorted line drawings are produced by subjects attempting the Rey Complex Figure test, a clinical test of neuropsychological assessment. However, the marking scheme conventionally employed can be subjective and unreliable. In this paper, the first stages in automating this scoring system are investigated using a robust technique to locate a reduced set of scoring sections and a knowledge-based system that employs spatial metrics and fuzzy approximation techniques. Testing the technique using clinical data produced encouraging results that support the argument that this is a feasible approach for implementing a fully automated system, and that in its current state, can be immediately applied in a semi-automated system.  相似文献

The heterocomplex of glycoproteins E and NS1 of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus was isolated from culture fluid of continuous SPEV (porcine embryo kidney) cells by affinity chromatography on CL4B sepharose with immobilized monoclonal antibodies to TBE virus protein NS1. Comparison of the TBE E-NS1 heterocomplex from culture fluid and cells showed the predominance of secreted extracellular form. A similar TBE virus heterocomplex E-NS1 was revealed in the blood sera of patients with TBE but not in their lymphocytes. Extracellular localization of the E-NS1 complex at the late stage of infection rules out its hypothesized participation in the replication of TBE virus. Virtual absence of the heterocomplex and presence of proteins E and NS1 in high concentrations in the cells makes the nonspecific aggregation of these proteins impossible. Evidently, the extracellular heterocomplex E-NS1 may react with virusspecific antibodies or with cytotoxic T lymphocytes.  相似文献

In the present investigation, the process model developed in Part I has been applied to evaluate the microstructure and strength evolution during active brazing of ceramics. As a starting point, reaction-layer growth is assumed to occur isothermally with no restrictions in the supply of reactive element. Different kinds of diagrams are then constructed to show how specific process variables (e.g. the heating and cooling period, the limiting layer thickness, and the diffusion mechanism) affect the growth kinetics. It is concluded that the key to improved joint properties lies in control of the reaction-layer thickness through optimization of the brazing conditions, and an illustration of this is given. In the search for new risk factors for diabetic macroangiopathy the insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism in the angiotensin-converting enzyme gene was studied in 237 consecutive patients (125 men and 112 women) with non-insulin-dependent diabetes. The female population showed an excess of ischemic electrocardiographic changes or definite myocardial infarctions in the patients homozygous for the deletion [D/D; odds ratio (OR) 2.8; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.4-5.3] and in the insertion/deletion heterozygotes (I/D; OR 1.8; CI 1.1-3.1) compared with the patients homozygous for the insertion (I/I). In the total series coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and claudication were more often observed in the patients with I/D (OR 1.5; CI 1.0-2.2) or the D/D genotype patients (OR 1.7; CI 1.1-2.6) than in those with the genotype I/I. The systolic blood pressure was lower in patients with genotype I/I (138 +/- 19 mmHg) than in those with the genotype I/D (149 +/- 22 mmHg) or D/D (150 +/- 21 mmHg; P < 0.02). The prevalence of hypertension and the median urinary albumin excretion rate also tended to be lowest in the I/I genotype patients. Multiple logistic analysis revealed that in women the angiotensin-converting enzyme D/D genotype is independently associated with coronary heart disease. Our findings suggest that variation at the angiotensin-converting enzyme gene locus is one of the factors involved in the predisposition of diabetic patients to the development of arterial disease and hypertension.  相似文献

Cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the deposition of extracellular matrix components in both normal and fibrotic liver are still poorly understood. We have investigated the influence of cooperation between Ito cells and hepatocytes in matrix deposition in vitro. Immunoprecipitation of radiolabeled proteins from media of 5-day-old Ito cell primary cultures showed that these cells secreted high levels of the major basement membrane components, ie, collagen IV, laminin, and entactin/nidogen. By immunocytochemistry, precursors of basement membrane components were found intracellularly, but only scarce deposits were seen around the cells. When hepatocytes were added to 2-day-old Ito cell primary cultures, they established close contacts with Ito cells in less than 24 hours and expressed ZO-1, a tight junction-associated protein not detectable in standard hepatocyte culture. Cytochemistry analysis revealed an abundant extracellular matrix deposited over hepatocyte cords and between hepatocytes and Ito cells. Immunocytochemistry studies showed that this matrix contained laminin, fibronectin, and collagens proIII and IV. These data indicate that a high level of matrix protein synthesis by liver cells in vitro is not sufficient to induce extracellular matrix deposition, and that cell-cell interactions are strongly involved in this process. Hepatocyte/Ito cell co-culture, which may reflect the actual situation in vivo, represents a useful tool for studying liver fibrogenesis.  相似文献

The importance of maximal versus submaximal exercise testing and the significance of heart failure on the prognostic value of exercise-provoked ST-segment depression > or = 0.1 mV was studied in 143 patients recovering from acute myocardial infarction. Patients were exercise tested prior to discharge and follow up lasted for up to 18 months (mean 17 months). End-point was first major event (i.e. first non-fatal reinfarction or death). A symptom-limited exercise test was superior to a heart-rate-limited test in detecting ST-segment depressions (27% vs. 20%: P < 0.5), and patients with ST-segment depression at lower heart rates did not have an increased risk of subsequent events compared with patients with ST-segment depression at higher heart rates (14% vs. 27%; NS). Heart failure surpassed ST-segment depression as a risk predictor (34% vs. 18%). Based on a meta-analysis including 13 studies (1987 patients) exercise-provoked ST-segment depression possessed an increased risk of subsequent major events (P < 0.0001; risk ratio = 1.90; 95% confidence limits 1.43,2.51). Thus, ST-segment depression provoked by a symptom-limited test selects patients with an increased risk of subsequent major events. In patients with a history of heart failure exercise-provoked ST-segment depression is of limited value.  相似文献

An interactive video-on-demand (VoD) system allows users to access video services, such as movies, electronic encyclopedia, interactive games, and educational videos from video servers on a broadband network. This paper develops a performance evaluation tool for the system design. In particular, a user activity model is developed to describe the usage of system resources, i.e., network bandwidth and video server usage, by a user as it interacts with the service. In addition, we allow batching of user requests, and the effect of such batching is captured in a batching model. Our proposed queueing model integrates both the user activity and the batching model. This model can be used to determine the requirements of network bandwidth and video server and, hence, the trade-off in communication and storage costs for different system resource configurations  相似文献
