The present study evaluates the role of the microstructure in the static and dynamic mechanical behavior of as-cast Al7075 alloy promoted by ultrasonic treatment (US) during solidification. The characterization of samples revealed that US treatment promoted grain and intermetallics refinement, changed the shape of the intermetallic phases (equilibrium phases of soluble M and/or T (Al, Cu, Mg, Zn) and their insoluble Al-Cu-Fe compounds) and lead to their uniform distribution along the grain boundaries. Consequently, the mechanical properties and damping capacity above critical strain values were enhanced by comparison with values obtained for castings produced without US vibration. This results suggest that the grain and secondary phases refinement by US can be a promising solution to process materials to obtain high damping and high strength characteristics.  相似文献

The r.f. sputtering technique was used to deposit titanium thin films on stainless steel substrates, aiming at the application of the coated samples as skin contact materials for “dry” active electrodes. In this work the electrochemical behaviour of the coated samples was investigated in synthetic sweat solutions and their performance was compared with that of uncoated stainless steel and bulk titanium. The characterisation of the samples was carried out by electrochemical techniques and scanning electron microscopy. The coated samples displayed corrosion resistance values in synthetic sweat solutions much higher than stainless steel samples and of the same order of the values measured for bulk titanium in the same conditions.  相似文献

In many animals, chemical signals play an important role in species recognition and may contribute to reproductive isolation and speciation. The Iberian lizards of the genus Podarcis, with up to nine currently recognized lineages that are often sympatric, are highly chemosensory and provide an excellent model for the study of chemically mediated species recognition in closely related taxa. In this study, we tested the ability of male and female lizards of two sister species with widely overlapping distribution ranges (Podarcis bocagei and P. hispanica type 1) to discriminate between conspecific and heterospecific mates by using only substrate-borne chemical cues. We scored the number of tongue flicks directed at the paper substrate by each individual in a terrarium previously occupied by a conspecific or a heterospecific lizard of the opposite sex. Results show that males of P. bocagei and P. hispanica type 1 are capable of discriminating chemically between conspecifics and heterospecifics of the opposite sex, but females are not. These results suggest that differences in female, but not male, chemical cues may underlie species recognition and contribute to reproductive isolation in these species. The apparent inability of females to discriminate conspecific from heterospecific males, which is not because of reduced baseline exploration rates, is discussed in the context of sexual selection theory and species discrimination.  相似文献

The thermoplastic polymer blends of commercial interest generally need a phase compatibilization to reduce the interfacial tension, to stabilize the morphology, and to increment the interfacial adhesion. This work deals with the compatibilization of PP/PS blends by addition of a tailor‐made copolymer, which is prepared from the pure homopolymers by a Friedel‐Crafts reaction. This addition compatibilization process comes out as an economic alternative applicable to the recycling of mixed plastics from urban and industrial wastes. The influence of compatibilizer concentration and blending time on the emulsifying effect, morphology, and mechanical properties of the resulting blends are analyzed. The compatibilization process effectiveness is assessed through the improvement in phase adhesion, emulsification and ductility of the compatibilized with respect to the physical blends. An increase of three times in ductility is achieved using very low compatibilizer concentrations (0.5–0.7 wt%). A methodology to improve the efficiency of stochastic methods applied to the optimization of chemical processes with a large number of equality constraints is presented. The methodology is based on two steps: (a) the optimization of the simulation step, which involves the optimum choice of design variables and subsystems to be simultaneously solved; (b) the optimization of the nonlinear programming (NLP) problem using stochastic methods. For the first step a flexible tool (SIMOP) is used, whereby different numerical procedures can be easily obtained, taking into account the problem formulation and specific characteristics, the need for specific initialization schemes and the efficient solution of systems of nonlinear equations. This methodology was applied to the optimization of a reactive distillation process for the production of ethylene glycol. Due to the complexity of the mathematical model, several different numerical procedures were generated, and their influence on the computational burden and on the reliability and accuracy of the optimization to reach the global optimum were studied. The results obtained suggest that in addition to the choice of design variables, the structure of subsystems associated to numerical procedures has a considerable impact on the performance of the optimizers.  相似文献

The combination of the structural and tribological properties presented by AlNiBi alloys has motivated us to establish, as the main objective of this study, the investigation of the microstructural evolution and its influence on the microhardness (HV) of Al-3wt pct Ni-1wt pct Bi alloy horizontally solidified via a water-cooled directional solidification device. Temperature mapping by thermocouples inserted in the metal has been performed for experimental determination of the solidification thermal parameters, such as the growth rate and cooling rate (VL and TR, respectively). The microstructure has been characterized by optical and scanning electron microscopy and by microanalysis of the composition via dispersive energy spectroscopy (EDS composition). The macrostructure of the as-solidified ingot is characterized by columnar grains, and the final microstructure consists of an Al-rich primary phase (α-Al) and a eutectic mixture composed of two phases: α-Al + Al3Ni intermetallic (β) with Bi particles anchored on the β phase. The Bi droplet scale is affected by the thermal parameters. The primary phase (α-Al) is characterized by a reverse cellular-to-dendritic microstructural transition. Cellular and dendritic microstructures have been quantified by the cell, primary dendrite arm, secondary dendrite arm, and tertiary dendrite arm spacings (λC, λ1, λ2, and λ3, respectively). The relationships of λC, λ1, λ2, and λ3 with VL and TR have been established via power-type mathematical expressions. The HV dependence on λC, λ1, λ2, and λ3 has been analyzed in both cellular and dendritic microstructural zones. It has been observed that the HV values do not vary in the dendritic zone; however, Hall–Petch’s mathematical equations characterize the HV variation with these thermal and microstructural parameters in the cellular zone.

The peripheral-finned tube is a new geometry aimed at avoiding moisture-condensate blockage hindering of the air-side heat transfer, by allowing for robust air flow pathways. It consists of a porous structure formed by periodic, radial-hexagonal fin arrangements of different radial extents mounted with a 30° offset from its neighboring level. Here, the air-side pressure drop and the heat transfer characteristics of five different heat exchanger prototypes with different geometric characteristics, such as the radial fin length, fin distribution, and heat exchanger length, were evaluated experimentally in an open-loop wind-tunnel calorimeter. The results demonstrate the effective performance, i.e., the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics, of this new heat exchanger. A one-dimensional theoretical model based on the porous media treatment was also developed to predict the thermal-hydraulic behavior of the heat exchanger. The model incorporates the actual fin geometry into the calculation of the air-side porosity. The air-side permeability is calculated according to the Kozeny–Carman model and the particle-diameter based analysis. The model predicts the experimental data within a few percent RMS, depending on the correlations used for the friction coefficient and interstitial Nusselt number.  相似文献

MoNxOy films were deposited on steel substrates by dc reactive magnetron sputtering. The depositions were carried out from a pure molybdenum target, varying the flow rate of reactive gases. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results revealed the occurrence of cubic MoNx and hexagonal (δ-MoN) phases for the films with high nitrogen flow rates. The increase of oxygen content induces the decrease of the grain size of the molybdenum nitride crystallites. The thermal stability of a set of samples was studied in vacuum, for an annealing time of 1 h, for temperatures ranging from 500 to 800 °C in 100 °C steps. The results showed that pure molybdenum nitride films changed their structure from a meta-stable cubic MoN to hexagonal δ-MoN and cubic γ-Mo2N-type structures with increasing annealing temperatures. The samples with molybdenum nitride films evidenced a good thermal stability, but those with molybdenum oxynitride coatings showed a tendency to detach with the increase of the annealing temperature.  相似文献

Edible coatings (ECs) are a thin layer of a mixture of edible materials, applied in the liquid state and dried over the surface of a food product to maintain its quality during storage. This work was aimed to study the effect of ECs made from wx corn starch (WCS) or acetylated cross‐linked starch (ACLS) added with beeswax on fresh raspberry quality attributes during short‐term cold storage. Freshly harvested fruits were coated, dried, packed in plastic trays and stored up to 8 days at 4°C. During storage quality parameters such as firmness, respiration rate, anthocyanins content, total phenols, color changes, and weight loss were evaluated. A clear effect on control of respiration rate was observed in coated raspberries. Respiration rate of uncoated fruit was 4.5 ± 0.28 mmol/kg/h and decreased to 4.2 ± 0.27 for ACLS and to 4.1 ± 0.08 mmol/kg/h for WCS‐coated raspberries, after 56 h of storage at 15°C. Ethylene production followed a similar trend under these conditions decreasing from 0.043 ± 0.005 to 0.034 ± 0.004 mmol/kg/h for uncoated and ACLS coated fruits, respectively, indicating an effect on ripening control. Additionally, ACLS and WCS coatings permitted the preservation of color without affecting anthocyanins content. However, the presence of anaerobic metabolites and reduction of terpenes production in cold stored coated raspberries indicated hypoxic conditions, which can adversely affect shelf‐life quality attributes of raspberries such as firmness and weight loss.  相似文献

The formation of secondary carbides during tempering of H11 hot work steels at 898 K (625 °C) was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and related to the previously established effects of Si content on mechanical properties. Lower Si contents (0.05 and 0.3 pct Si) and higher Si contents (1.0 and 2.0 pct Si) were observed to yield different carbide phases and different particle distributions. Cementite particles stabilized by Cr, Mo, and V in the lower Si steels were found to be responsible for similar precipitation hardening effects in comparison to the M2C alloy carbides in the higher Si steels. The much higher toughness of the lower Si steels was suggested to be due to a finer and more homogeneous distribution of Cr-rich M7C3 carbides in the interlath and interpackage regions of the quenched and tempered martensite microstructure. The present effects of Si content on the formation of alloy carbides in H11 hot work steels were found to be the result of the retarding effect of Si on the initial formation of cementite, well known from the early tempering stages in low alloy steels.  相似文献
