Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version in Offenders With Axis I Disorders.

One hundred forty-nine inpatients within a maximum security psychiatric facility were assessed with the Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version (PCL:SV; S. D. Hart, D. N. Cox, & R. D. Hare, 1995). Within the total sample, 68% had a psychotic disorder and 30% met criteria for psychopathy. Using confirmatory factor analysis, the authors tested the 2-factor PCL:SV model of psychopathy and recent 3- and 4-factor models. Results indicated good fit for each model, with the 4-factor model showing best overall fit. Structural equation modeling was used to determine which psychopathy factors predicted 6-month follow-up of inpatient aggression. The 2-, 3-, and 4-factor models, respectively, accounted for 16%.27%. and 3l% of the variance in aggression. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)     

Performance Comparison of Four Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Deck Panels

In an effort to assess the constructability and performance of bridges with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite decks, the short-term and long-term responses of a 207 m, five-span bridge retrofitted with four different FRP panel systems were monitored. The overall aspects of the panel systems, connection details, and construction techniques are presented prior to presentation of the observed and measured responses. Key design parameters (impact factors, girder distribution factors, and level of composite action) for FRP and reinforced concrete decks are evaluated. This paper demonstrates that FRP replacement decks are a viable alternative to reinforced concrete decks and identifies the differences in performances of various FRP deck systems. Two of the FRP panel systems were found to perform considerably better than the other deck systems. Issues that may reduce the service life of FRP deck systems are presented and discussed.     

Human factors in order picking: a content analysis of the literature

Order picking (OP) is one of the most labour- and time-intensive processes in internal logistics. Over the last decades, researchers have developed various mathematical planning models that help to increase the efficiency of OP systems, for example, by optimising storage assignments or by specifying routes for the order pickers that minimise travel distance in the warehouse. Human characteristics that are often a major determinant of OP system performance have, however, widely been ignored in this stream of research. This paper systematically evaluates the literature on manual OP systems and conducts a content analysis to gain insights into how human factors (HF) have been considered and discussed in the scientific literature. The results of the analysis indicate that management-oriented efficiency criteria dominated prior research on OP, and that there is a clear lack of attention to HF in the design and management of OP systems. This poses an opportunity for research and design of manual OP systems.     

Identification and Avoidance of Systematic Measurement Errors in Lamb Wave Observation With One‐Dimensional Scanning Laser Vibrometry

Abstract: Scanning laser vibrometry is a widely used tool to observe Lamb wave fields for structural health monitoring (SHM) purposes. Lamb waves propagate over long distances in thin‐walled structures and interact with structural inhomogeneities, for example, damages, in spite of wavelengths several times of the damage size. In SHM of sheets and glass‐ or carbon‐fibre‐reinforced plastic plates, this effect is used for determining the position as well as the size of structural faults. With the often employed one‐dimensional vibrometry, a geometrically induced, systematic error occurs when measuring oblique‐angled motion. This error can be, in the specific case of Lamb waves, of a non‐negligible quantity. The nature of this geometrical measurement error in general and concerning Lamb waves in special is discussed analytically for both amplitude and phase data. It is shown that this matter should be taken into account in some applications.     

Mismatch discrimination in oligonucleotide hybridization reactions using single strand binding protein. A surface plasmon fluorescence study

We describe the use of surface plasmon- and surface plasmon fieldenhanced fluorescence spectroscopy for the detection of hybridization reactions between surface-attached probe oligonucleotides and complement strands binding from solution. These targets, exhibiting different base mismatches relative to the probe 15-mer sequences, carry a fluorophore at their 5'-end thus allowing for sensitive detection and quantification of association, k_on, and dissociation, k_off, rate constants, as well as affinity constants, K_a. We demonstrate that by the competitive binding / replacement of single strand binding proteins the mismatch discrimination can be further enhanced.     

Gallium gradients in Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin‐film solar cells

The gallium gradient in Cu(In,Ga)Se₂ (CIGS) layers, which forms during the two industrially relevant deposition routes, the sequential and co‐evaporation processes, plays a key role in the device performance of CIGS thin‐film modules. In this contribution, we present a comprehensive study on the formation, nature, and consequences of gallium gradients in CIGS solar cells. The formation of gallium gradients is analyzed in real time during a rapid selenization process by in situ X‐ray measurements. In addition, the gallium grading of a CIGS layer grown with an in‐line co‐evaporation process is analyzed by means of depth profiling with mass spectrometry. This gallium gradient of a real solar cell served as input data for device simulations. Depth‐dependent occurrence of lateral inhomogeneities on the µm scale in CIGS deposited by the co‐evaporation process was investigated by highly spatially resolved luminescence measurements on etched CIGS samples, which revealed a dependence of the optical bandgap, the quasi‐Fermi level splitting, transition levels, and the vertical gallium gradient. Transmission electron microscopy analyses of CIGS cross‐sections point to a difference in gallium content in the near surface region of neighboring grains. Migration barriers for a copper‐vacancy‐mediated indium and gallium diffusion in CuInSe₂ and CuGaSe₂ were calculated using density functional theory. The migration barrier for the In_Cu antisite in CuGaSe₂ is significantly lower compared with the Ga_Cu antisite in CuInSe₂, which is in accordance with the experimentally observed Ga gradients in CIGS layers grown by co‐evaporation and selenization processes. The Non-Erythropoietic EPO Analogue Cibinetide Inhibits Osteoclastogenesis In Vitro and Increases Bone Mineral Density in Mice

The two erythropoietin (EPO) receptor forms mediate different cellular responses to erythropoietin. While hematopoiesis is mediated via the homodimeric EPO receptor (EPOR), tissue protection is conferred via a heteromer composed of EPOR and CD131. In the skeletal system, EPO stimulates osteoclast precursors and induces bone loss. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are still elusive. Here, we evaluated the role of the heteromeric complex in bone metabolism in vivo and in vitro by using Cibinetide (CIB), a non-erythropoietic EPO analogue that exclusively binds the heteromeric receptor. CIB is administered either alone or in combination with EPO. One month of CIB treatment significantly increased the cortical (~5.8%) and trabecular (~5.2%) bone mineral density in C57BL/6J WT female mice. Similarly, administration of CIB for five consecutive days to female mice that concurrently received EPO on days one and four, reduced the number of osteoclast progenitors, defined by flow cytometry as Lin⁻CD11b⁻Ly6C^hi CD115⁺, by 42.8% compared to treatment with EPO alone. In addition, CIB alone or in combination with EPO inhibited osteoclastogenesis in vitro. Our findings introduce CIB either as a stand-alone treatment, or in combination with EPO, as an appealing candidate for the treatment of the bone loss that accompanies EPO treatment.

Synthesis of 4-Alkoxy-2-hydroxyphenyl Ketoximes as Reagents for Metal Extraction The C-Acylation (Friedel-Crafts reaction) of resorcinol with aluminium chloride, the monoetherification in 4-position of the resulting 2,4-dihydroxyphenylketones, and the preparation of oximes ( 8, 9, 10, 11 ) from this ketones were investigated. The compounds obtained are characterized by elemental analysis, and the i.r., u.v. and ¹H-n.m.r. spectra are discussed. Solubility data of some oximes are determined in water, octane and toluene. The extraction properties for copper-(II)-and iron-(III)-ions are measured by isotope methods in relation to the extragent structure, the extraction time and the pH-range.
