Surgical treatment of portal hypertension with ascites using ileovesicopexy under experimental conditions

Experiments conducted with albino rats have evidenced that under the effect of an atherogenic ration the level of lipids and cholesterol in the blood plasma and hepatic tissue and of sillac acids in the blood plasma increased. In the aortic intima the content of acid mucopolysaccharides was rising, this being attended by a concurrent swelling of the main interstitial substance and of the collagen fibers in the subendothelial layer. An addition of apple pectin or of cellulose to the atherogenic ration deferred the development of the mentioned changes.     

Insulin concentration in plasma from the femoral, hepatic and pancreatico-duodenal veins of dogs under standard conditions and in corisone glucose tolerance tests

In comparing the results of glucose tolerance tests conducted against the background of cortisone action and without it the former one proved to have advantages over the latter one in studying the incretory function of the pancreas. A biphasic character of insulin secretion in glucose loading was revealed with the aid of this test. Secretion of insulin by the pancreas was better reflected by the dynamics of insulin content in the blood of the pancreatic-duodenal vein that by the dynamics of its content in the blood of the peripheral veins.     

Typing of freshly isolated strains of Salmonella typhi using bacteriophages and colicins

The effect of ketamine administered to 20 rabbits in a single dose and in fractionated doses on the blood clotting system was studied. The following blood clotting indices were determined: thrombelastography (TEG), plasma thrombin time, platelet count, euglobulin lysis time. No statistically significant differences were observed in the activity of clotting and fibrinolysis systems in the group of animals receiving a single dose of ketamine and in the group receiving fractionated doses. The obtained results suggest that ketamine as an agent used for dissociative anaesthesia can be administered safely in serious conditions associated with disturbances in the haemostasis system.     

The dynamic indices of lipid peroxidation and of the antioxidant system under the influence of surgical treatment in ovarian cystoma]

To treat patients with suppurative diseases of the bronchi, lung, and pleura, the new aseptic myramistine was topically applied as 0.005% myramistine solution in isotonic sodium chloride solution in 28 patients with acute and chronic pleural empyema, acute abscess of the lung, and suppurative endobronchitis-complicated bronchoectatic disease. The therapy made it possible to arrest the intoxication syndrome, to achieve abacillation of contents in the cavities of empyema, abscesses, and bronchoectases, to cure endobronchitis, to obliterate destructive cavities in the lung more rapidly and to prepare patients for a planned surgical intervention more valuably and to improve the results of surgical treatment. The studies allow the antiseptic myramistine to be recommended for topical treatment of pyodestructive diseases of the lung.     

Extravesicular retropubic adenomectomy of the prostate

The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of moradol (butorphanol tartrate) as an analgetic component of combined total anesthesia in children. The adequacy of anesthesia was assessed by echography, electrocardiography, and electroencephalography, measurements of stress hormones, electrolyte balance, and metabolic parameters at various stages of anesthesia and surgery. A total of 103 patients aged 1 to 4 years were examined, subjected to abdominal, thoracal, urological, orthopaedic, and ENT surgery. The stability of the basic hemodynamic parameters and some stress hormones in the blood during surgery indicated effective protection of the organism from surgical trauma, on the one hand, and evidenced the minimal effect of anesthesia on the adrenal and thyroid function, on the other. A single injection of moradol during induction narcosis was sufficient for 2.5 to 3 hours of surgery. No serious side effects of the drug were observed. Prolonged (10 hours on average) anesthesia persisted after the operation, this decreasing the postoperative use of analgesics.
