LINGUISTIC FUZZY SYSTEMS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS IN ECONOMETRICS

This paper gives a brief summary of the linguistic fuzzy systems iheory and describes its possible application in econometric modelling. The essential feature of the used approach is a transformation of if-then rale bases into approximative deterministic behavior functions of considered economic systems.

Sequential processing of quantitative phase images for the study of cell behaviour in real‐time digital holographic microscopy

Transmitted light holographic microscopy is particularly used for quantitative phase imaging of transparent microscopic objects such as living cells. The study of the cell is based on extraction of the dynamic data on cell behaviour from the time‐lapse sequence of the phase images. However, the phase images are affected by the phase aberrations that make the analysis particularly difficult. This is because the phase deformation is prone to change during long‐term experiments. Here, we present a novel algorithm for sequential processing of living cells phase images in a time‐lapse sequence. The algorithm compensates for the deformation of a phase image using weighted least‐squares surface fitting. Moreover, it identifies and segments the individual cells in the phase image. All these procedures are performed automatically and applied immediately after obtaining every single phase image. This property of the algorithm is important for real‐time cell quantitative phase imaging and instantaneous control of the course of the experiment by playback of the recorded sequence up to actual time. Such operator's intervention is a forerunner of process automation derived from image analysis. The efficiency of the propounded algorithm is demonstrated on images of rat fibrosarcoma cells using an off‐axis holographic microscope.     

Surface behavior of blends of siloxane and siloxane-containing copolymers in poly(vinyl chloride)

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is used to reveal surface/bulk compositional relationships in blends of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and PDMS/polycarbonate block copolymers in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). It is shown that the surface of PVC can be enriched in siloxane up to 60 at. % PDMS without visible indications of phase separation.     

Synthesis of Li x Na1 − x Ta y Nb1 − y O3 and LiTa y Nb1 − y O3 perovskite and pseudoilmenite solid solutions

This paper compares the solid-state reactions underlying the synthesis of LiTa _y Nb_{1 ? y} O₃ and Li _x Na_{1 ? x} Ta _y Nb_{1 ? y} O₃ solid solutions with the use of Ta_2y Nb_{2(1 ? y)}O₅ niobium tantalum pentoxides and a mechanical mixture of the Ta₂O₅ and Nb₂O₅ pentoxides. Our results demonstrate that the synthesis with the use of Ta_2y Nb_{2(1 ? y)}O₅ allows phase-pure solid solutions to be obtained at substantially lower temperatures in comparison with a mechanical mixture of Ta₂O₅ and Nb₂O₅.     

Accumulation of water by polymer/mineral hydrogels

The paper has investigated structural mechanical properties of hydrogels from Na-carboxylmethyl cellulse and bentonite by the rheological method and showed that they depend on their composition. Hydrogels accumulate about 95% of water. Treatment of the surface of hydrogel by hydrophilic or hydrophobic aerosil slows down water loss in drying and destruction in the water medium.     

Structural changes in VT1-0 titanium induced by deformation during explosion welding

The hardening of VT1-0 titanium is studied during the formation of a multilayer material by explosion welding. The structural transformations in titanium plates are analyzed by metallographic and electron-microscopic methods. The mechanical properties of the welded multilayer titanium stacks are estimated using static and dynamic mechanical tests.     

Diffusional Boriding of Subeutectoidal Tool Steels: Technology and Outcome

Structural, subeutectoidal structural, and tool steels are studied. Their boriding is considered. Equipment for electrolytic boriding and a modernized high-temperature casting crucible are presented. The conditions of electrolytic boriding are established. Shortcomings of electrolytic boriding are noted.
