COVID-19 is a highly contagious new infection caused by the single-stranded RNA Sars-CoV-2 virus. For the first time, this infection was recorded in December 2019 in the Chinese province of Wuhan. The virus presumably crossed the interspecies barrier and passed to humans from a bat. Initially, the disease was considered exclusively in the context of damage to the respiratory system, but it quickly became clear that the disease also entails serious consequences from various systems, including the cardiovascular system. Among these consequences are myocarditis, myocardial damage, subsequent heart failure, myocardial infarction, and Takotsubo syndrome. On the other hand, clinical data indicate that the presence of chronic diseases in a patient aggravates the course and outcome of coronavirus infection. In this context, the relationship between COVID-19 and atherosclerosis, a condition preceding cardiovascular disease and other disorders of the heart and blood vessels, is particularly interesting. The renin-angiotensin system is essential for the pathogenesis of both coronavirus disease and atherosclerosis. In particular, it has been shown that ACE2, an angiotensin-converting enzyme 2, plays a key role in Sars-CoV-2 infection due to its receptor activity. It is noteworthy that this enzyme is important for the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system. Chronic inflammation is implicated in numerous human pathologies. In particular, low-grade inflammation is currently recognized as an important mechanism of osteoarthritis (OA), at least in some patients. Among the signs of the inflammatory process are elevated macrophage numbers detected in the OA synovium compared to healthy controls. High macrophage counts also correlate with clinical symptoms of the disease. Macrophages are central players in the development of chronic inflammation, pain, cartilage destruction, and bone remodeling. However, macrophages are also involved in tissue repair and remodeling, including cartilage. Therefore, reduction of macrophage content in the joints correlates with deleterious effects in OA models. Macrophage population is heterogeneous and dynamic, with phenotype transitions being induced by a variety of stimuli. In order to effectively use the macrophage inflammatory circuit for treatment of OA, it is important to understand macrophage heterogeneity and interactions with surrounding cells and tissues in the joint. Mitochondrial dysfunction is now recognized as a contributing factor to neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Mitochondria are signaling organelles with a variety of functions ranging from energy production to the regulation of cellular metabolism, energy homeostasis, and response to stress. The successful functioning of these complex processes is critically dependent on the accuracy of mitochondrial dynamics, which includes the ability of mitochondria to change shape and position in the cell, which is necessary to maintain proper function and quality control, especially in polarized cells such as neurons. There has been much evidence to suggest that the disruption of mitochondrial dynamics may play a critical role in the pathogenesis of AD. This review highlights aspects of altered mitochondrial dynamics in AD that may contribute to the etiology of this debilitating condition. We also discuss therapeutic strategies to improve mitochondrial dynamics and function that may provide an alternative treatment approach. 相似文献

Germanium dioxide films containing Ge nanocrystals are studied. The films have been prepared by two methods: (i) deposition from supersaturated GeO vapors with subsequent decomposition of metastable germanium monoxide into a heterophase Ge:GeO2 system, and (ii) formation of anomalously thick native germanium oxides with a GeO2(H2O) chemical composition by a catalyst-accelerated oxidation of germanium. The films, which have been prepared on various substrates, are studied using the photoluminescence technique, Raman spectroscopy, spectral ellipsometry, and high-resolution electron microscopy. In the GeO2 films with built-in Ge nanoclusters, intense photoluminescence is detected at room temperature. The nanocluster sizes are estimated from the position of the Raman peak related to localized optical phonons. The correlation between a decrease in the nanocluster size and the shift of the photoluminescence peaks to the blue spectral region as the relative Ge content decreases is revealed. The presence of nanoclusters is confirmed by the data obtained from high-resolution electron microscopy. The correlation of the optical gap calculated taking into account the quantum confinement of electrons and holes in the nanoclusters with the experimentally observed luminescence peak is established. It can be concluded from the data obtained that the Ge nanoclusters constructed in the GeO2 matrix represent type I quantum dots. 相似文献

The results of investigations of the preliminary removal of the products of radioactive decomposition from irradiated nuclear
fuel to obtain uranium and plutonium which are suitable for reuse in fuel fabrication are presented. Nitrate-alkali melts

hot boxes.

For the past several decades, humanity has been dealing with HIV. This disease is one of the biggest global health problems. Fortunately, modern antiretroviral therapy allows patients to manage the disease, improving their quality of life and their life expectancy. In addition, the use of these drugs makes it possible to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus to almost zero. Atherosclerosis is another serious pathology that leads to severe health problems, including disability and, often, the death of the patient. An effective treatment for atherosclerosis has not yet been developed. Both types of immune response, innate and adaptive, are important components of the pathogenesis of this disease. In this regard, the peculiarities of the development of atherosclerosis in HIV carriers are of particular scientific interest. In this review, we have tried to summarize the data on atherosclerosis and its development in HIV carriers.
