In order to exploit wind power as economically as possible, it was suggested that the wind turbine should be enclosed inside a specially designed shroud. Various geometries are discussed; it is shown that with a fairly compact shroud a significant power augmentation can be achieved. For improving the shroud performance, the use of a ring-shaped flap or boundary layer control technique is introduced. It is shown that up to 80% improvement in the shroud power augmentation can be obtained by the use of an appropriate ring-shaped flap while proper bleeding of the shroud's external flow into its inner rear part will increase its power augmentation by about 25%. The present review also discussed the design and performance of an axial flow turbine which is the most suitable for the proposed shrouds. It is shown that such a turbine produces a fairly stable output for varying wind speeds while exhibiting a fairly high efficiency. Based on the reported research with shrouds, a pilot plant producing 1 hp at 5 m/s with a 3 m dia. turbine was built. Its design and preliminary field test results are also included in the review.  相似文献

Abrasive wear behavior of ductile irons with different dual matrix structures has been investigated. In order to obtain ductile irons with different dual matrix structures an unalloyed ductile iron specimens were austenitized in the two-phase region (α + γ) at various temperature (795 °C and 815 °C) and then rapidly transferred to a salt bath held at the 365 °C for austempering for 30, 90 and 120 min. Some specimens were quenched from same intercritical austenitizing temperatures and tempered at 550 °C for 60 and 300 min. Some specimens were also conventionally austempered and/or quenched from 900 °C for comparison. Experimental results showed that, the tensile strength increased and ductility decreased with increasing martensite volume fraction in the specimen with martensite dual matrix structure. By increasing the tempering time, the yield and UTS decreased and ductility increased. In addition, the specimens with ausferrite dual matrix structures exhibited much greater ductility than conventionally austempered ones. The tensile strength increased while ductility decreased with increasing ausferrite volume fraction. Furthermore in all austenitized specimens, the abrasive weight loss of austempered specimens (A series) was lower than those of quenched specimens (Q series) irrespective of all loads due to increased AFVFs and total elongation. It was shown that wear loss of both tested materials in abrasive wear was proportional to the applied load. However, there was a decreasing trend in the weight loss of the A795 with dual matrix structure austempered for 30 and 90 min with increasing load. The reason was because of the fact that the specimen surface was work hardened with cutting efficiency of the abrasive reduced through clogging, and attrition jointly leading to less weight loss. Moreover, increasing the austempering time caused more ductile ausferritic structure to displace hard martensite. In all austempered samples, the abrasive weight loss increased with increasing the austempering time. As for the case of Q samples, the abrasive weight loss increased more or less linearly with load since an increase in the applied load might increase the contact stress. Among the Q samples, the highest weight loss was obtained for the Q795-300, Q815-300 sample because of lower martensite volume fraction, but the lowest weight loss was observed for the Q900 sample due to the highest martensite volume fraction. For Q900 samples, the amount of fracture of the abrasives was found to be increase with the harder specimen, and it may have contributed somewhat to the increased wear.Furthermore, microchips were dominant wear mechanism by cutting mode for higher ductile materials while micro-ploughing was predominant wear for harder materials, but wear also occurred by combinations of ploughing and embedding particles into the surface for Q samples. Cross-section examination by SEM through the wear surfaces revealed that a more smoother surface was observed for the A795 sample than that of the Q795 sample. However, a more rougher surface was observed for the A900-120 sample than that of the Q900 sample.  相似文献

In this study, the biosorption of Acid Blue 290 and Acid Blue 324 on Spirogyra rhizopus, a green algae growing on fresh water, was studied with respect to initial pH, temperature, initial dye concentration and biosorbent concentration. The optimum initial pH and temperature values for AB 290 and AB 324 biosorption were found to be 2.0, 30 degrees C and 3.0, 25 degrees C, respectively. It was observed that the adsorbed AB 290 and AB 324 amounts increased with increasing the initial dye concentration up to 1500 and 750 mg/L, respectively. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson and Koble-Corrigan isotherm models were applied to the experimental equilibrium data and the isotherm constants were determined by using Polymath 4.1 software. The monolayer coverage capacities of S. rhizopus for AB 290 and AB 324 dyes were found as 1356.6 mg/g and 367.0 mg/g, respectively. The intraparticle diffusion model and the pseudo-second order kinetic model were applied to the experimental data in order to describe the removal mechanism of these acidic dyes by S. rhizopus. The pseudo-second order kinetic model described very well the biosorption kinetics of AB 290 and AB 324 dyes. Thermodynamic studies showed that the biosorption of AB 290 and AB 324 on S. rhizopus was exothermic in nature.  相似文献

In this study, the biosorption of nickel(II) ions on Enteromorpha prolifera, a green algae, was investigated in a batch system. The single and combined effects of operating parameters such as initial pH, temperature, initial metal ion concentration and biosorbent concentration on the biosorption of nickel(II) ions on E. prolifera were analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum biosorption conditions were determined as initial pH 4.3, temperature 27 degrees C, biosorbent concentration 1.2 g/L and initial nickel(II) ion concentration 100 mg/L. At optimum biosorption conditions, the biosorption capacity of E. prolifera for nickel(II) ions was found to be 36.8 mg/g after 120 min biosorption. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to the equilibrium data and defined very well both isotherm models. The monolayer coverage capacity of E. prolifera for nickel(II) ions was found as 65.7 mg/g. In order to examine the rate limiting step of nickel(II) biosorption, such as the mass transfer and chemical reaction kinetics, the intraparticle diffusion model, external diffusion model and the pseudo second order kinetic model were tested with the experimental data. It was found that for both contributes to the actual biosorption process. The pseudo second order kinetic model described the nickel(II) biosorption process with a good fitting.  相似文献

Sulphuric acid-treated wheat bran (STWB) was used as an adsorbent to remove Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution. It was observed that the adsorption yield of Pb(II) ions was found to be pH dependent. The equilibrium time for the process was determined as 2h. STWB gave the highest adsorption yield at around pH 6.0. At this pH, adsorption percentage for an initial Pb(II) ions concentration of 100mg/L was found to be 82.8 at 25 degrees C for contact time of 2h. The equilibrium data obtained at different temperatures fitted to the non-linear form of Langmuir, Freundlich and Redlich-Peterson and linear form of Langmuir and Freundlich models. Isotherm constants were calculated and compared for the models used. The maximum adsorption capacity (q(max)) which was obtained linear form of Langmuir model increased from 55.56 to 79.37mg/g with increasing temperature from 25 to 60 degrees C. Similar trend was observed for other isotherm constants related to the adsorption capacity. Linear form of Langmuir isotherm data was evaluated to determine the thermodynamic parameters for the process. Thermodynamic parameters show that adsorption process of Pb(II) ions is an endothermic and more effective process at high temperatures. The pseudo nth order kinetic model was successfully applied to the kinetic data and the order (n) of adsorption reaction was calculated at the range from 1.711 to 1.929. The values of k(ad) were found to be 5.82x10(-4) and 21.81x10(-4)(min(-1))(mg/g)(1-n) at 25 and 60 degrees C, respectively. Activation energy was determined as 29.65kJ/mol for the process. This suggest that the adsorption Pb(II) ions by STWB is chemically controlled.  相似文献

Dyes are usually presents in the effluent water of many industries, such as textiles, leather, paper, printing and cosmetics. The effectiveness of dye adsorption from wastewater has made to get alternative different low cost adsorbent to other expensive treatment methods. The adsorption of methylene blue onto dehydrated wheat bran (DWB) was investigated at temperatures (25-45 degrees C), initial methylene blue (MB) concentrations (100-500 mg L(-1)) and adsorbent dosage at the given contact time for the removal of dye. The optimum adsorption conditions were found to be as medium pH of 2.5 and at the temperature of 45 degrees C for the varying adsorbent dosage. Equilibrium isotherms were analysed by Freundlich, Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson isotherm equations using correlation coefficients. Adsorption data were well described by the Langmuir model, although they could be modelled by the Freundlich and Redlich-Peterson model as well. The pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models were applied to test the experimental data. It was concluded that the pseudo-second order kinetic model provided better correlation of the experimental data rather than the pseudo-first order model. The mass transfer model as intraparticle diffusion was applied to the experimental data to examine the mechanisms of rate controlling step. It was found that at the higher initial MB concentration, intraparticle diffusion is becoming significant controlling step. The thermodynamic constants of the adsorption process were also evaluated by using the Langmuir constants related to the equilibrium of adsorption at temperatures varied in the range 25-55 degrees C.  相似文献

The mechanical patterning of thin films has received recent attention due to significant potential for efficient nanostructure fabrication. For solid films, mechanically thinning wide areas remains particularly challenging. In this work, we introduce a new plastic ratchet mechanism involving small amplitude (<10 nm), oscillatory shear motion of the forging die. This isothermal mechanism significantly extends mass transport across surfaces, broadening the scope of nanoscale processing for a potentially wide class of solid ductile materials.  相似文献

Amorphous Ta2O5 films were prepared by sol–gel dip process on different substrates. The dip-coating technique was used to prepare amorphous Ta2O5 films by hydrolysis and condensation of tantalum ethoxide, Ta(OC2H5)5, precursor. Stable coating solutions were prepared using acetic acid as a chelating ligand and catalyzer. Single layer and multi-layered Ta2O5 films were fabricated at a dipping rate of 107 mm/min. The microstructure, stoichiometry and optical properties of these films were investigated as a function of the film thickness. Room temperature CV measurements clearly revealed a protonic conductor behavior for Ta2O5 films. Optical properties such as refractive index, extinction coefficient and optical band gap value of the Ta2O5 films were calculated from optical transmittance measurements. It was found that the refractive index and extinction coefficient values were affected by the thickness of the coatings. The refractive index at a wavelength of 550 nm increased from 1.70 to 1.72 with increasing film thickness. The optical band gap value (3.75±0.12 eV) of the coating was unaffected by the film thickness. These results indicate that sol–gel-deposited Ta2O5 films have a promising application as proton conductors in electrochromic devices.  相似文献

Rigid rough surface of a magnetic head and smooth surface of a hard disk are chosen to perform a comprehensive thermo-mechanical contact analysis at the magnetic head–disk interface, which is characterized by using the fractal geometry. The effects of mechanical and thermal surface loadings on deformation of the semi-infinite medium in normal and sliding contacts are analyzed simultaneously by developing a 2D finite element model. It is shown that frictional heating increases not only the contact area but also the contact pressure and stresses. The maximum temperature occurs at the tip of the asperities of the semi-infinite medium.  相似文献
